How to Root

Dang, what the heck am I doing wrong?

Honestly I don't know.. but don't feel bad because of all these guys sayin this is the easiest thing they've ever done.. they're just boasting.. Unrevoked is much easier.. One-Click Root apps are much easier. This is pretty simple once you get it. following the directions is key.. cd to your tools folder, and its kind of blurry on where to put the extracted files for SU BusyBox Etc.. just put them directly in the tools folder where your ADB is.. I found this makes it easier. I don't know if it was in the instructions to do this, if it was I read over it or it wasn't defined well. After that, just following the lines of code, and I got it right. Was very simple.

I know this question's been asked, but I'm wondering about rooting and the possible Froyo update sometime in the hopefully near future: would it be recommended to root now, or wait until after the update and root, or not root at all and just wait for the update? This is my first droid so I'm quite unfamiliar with the Android world and would like some advice.

Also, if rooting now would be preferable, I've already downloaded Verizon's most recent update, the I500.DI01 patch. I've read above about several cases of people already rooted having problems after updating. Will the one click root work if this update has already been installed?

Thanks a lot in advance for anyone who can help!

I have the same question. I am getting a Fascinate next week and the 1-click rooting looks easy enough, as well as the bing extermination and launcher pro google fix. (Thanks to the guys that worked on those!) But what are the chances that the, hopefully soon coming, froyo update will mess things up? Going back to stock looks a little more intimidating to me... (super android noob)

I could probably handle just using the launcher pro fix to wait to root after Froyo if needed. Any insight would be appreciated and again THANKS!:)

After the phone reboots I get the wait for 5 minutes.

Start time xx:xx:xx:xx

then error: device not found

Repeated 5 times

restarting which does not happen and then the phone is locked up and not rooted.

I think that I have followed the instructions to the letter.

But I must be missing something.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So my phone seemed to have the update installed around 4:30 this morning (I'm assuming I saw a light in a half asleep state and tried to shut it off and clicked install instead of cancel). Anyway, I noticed I lost root access, so I ran dirrk's EZ Root v0.2 and I keep getting the following error.

View attachment 3681

I tried to run it a few times, but I either get the above error or it says Restarting and about to exploit your device and then just sits there past the 5 minutes mark.

This is exactly what I am getting.

I've rooted another Samsung Fascinate before the one click root came out, and now I'm trying the one click root on my own phone, and when I run the "START ROOT" program, it opens the cmd that detects my phone, then I press any key to continue, and it pushes files then closes out the cmd screen. I let my phone sit there to see if anything happens, but nothing does. What's supposed to happen?

I have tried this one click method 2 times now, both times have reported success but have left my phone rootless...

It has however scared me half to death when each subsequent attempt left my phone beeping uncontrollably while booting to the lock screen.

Any ideas???

Mine worked without a hitch. I tried for a buddie of mine's Fascinate and his does this as well.

It says it pushes the apk's to the folder, then says its gonna reboot and install the permanent root files, but then throws that device not found error, and doesn't complete.

Anyone know why ????

Using XP that threw the error. Worked fine on my Vista lappy.

PS His phone has the DI01 OTA, mine did not. The instructions said that didn't matter though, does it ????

Ah, thanks, the batch script made it quite the easy task.

I'm quite interested in learning more about the exploit itself. I went to PM the poster, but I don't have 5 posts yet :(. Guess I will when I get more posts :-\.

Just got the phone today. (YAY!) First, I updated with the OTA update that was available. Once that was done, followed the instruction in first post, and had 0 issues rooting. Performed on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Yea, I am having the same problem as this guy right here. Superuser doesn't show up. debugging mode was on, drivers were installed, connected to the computer, etc. Would appreciate some help on the issue.
Also, i installed the verizon update from 1-2 weeks back, not sure if that is relevant.

a possible problem. i tried installing the drivers, and the system tray on my computer indicated that the USB drivers did not install correctly, so it could possibly be the wrong version of USB driver files. looking into it further.

i kept getting the error: device not found over and over again, what i did was restart both the computer and phone and re-do it and when your phone restarts and it says something about unlocking it once the phone boots up DO IT RIGHT AWAY after i did that the phone was rooted successfully!

I am having a similar problem. I used the one click root and when I ran ROM Manager, I get the following error:

"You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "/sytem/xbin/su". Use Google Search on your computer to find instruction to root your phone."

Does anyone know how to root this phone? Thanks!

Seems the update from Verizon on the phone killed the rooting capabilities for now. I went through the whole process 3 times with no errors but still shows uprooted when using root programs. Guys going need a new work a round for rooting.

I finished rooting my phone using this process... but honestly I am a noob to ALL of this. Someone told me I had to download a whole bunch of stuff like Rom manager, Clockworks recovery, Titanium backup, etc. can someone clarify what I should do now? I want to start deleting bloatware and bring my phone to optimal performance, but not sure what to do. if someone can send me a message or just reply to this comment, I would be extremely grateful!

thank you :]

ummm..... did everything, nothing works

downloaded ROM Manager Premium, Titanium Backup donate, Root Explorer, SetCPU, and a file manager like Astro.

ran the first step took forever to download and finally it said it sent everything to my phone... ran the zip and the black box came up and said connecting sending blah blah.... said done... my phone rebooted... but isnt rooted... whats up?

Mine stopped working after done installing

After the completion and trying to fit the puzzle to unlock, mine suddenly stopped and nothing worked,

so took off battery and turned it on again.
