Did you install the samsung drivers ? link at OP
Is the phone connected with debugging enabled? Settings > Applications > Debugging
Is the sdcard mounted? It shouldn't be! When you connect your phone to the computer drag down the notification bar at the top. It should say mount phone to computer. If you click on it it will say mount or do not mount. YOu normally dont have to click anything because by default it doesn't mount but if you did mount it click unmount.

i went through and did everything the phone restarted and nothing changed i am not new to hacking i had a droid i was wondering if i missed a step???

Probably the dumbest question of the day but I can't even qualify myself as a noob, more like pre noob. Anyway I have installed the usb drivers and have downloaded and extracted the files to the fascinate folder I have the devise connected to computer but I do not get android-sdk-r07-windows in the directory any ideas as what I am doing wrong?

You need to refresh the tutorial because you dont need that anymore

Tried and tried to get this working with VMware fusion on my mac to no avail. Switched to my little netbook running windows 7, and it worked like a charm. THANKS Dirrk for handing this to us on a silver platter!

Since I didn't brick it, I'm off to shoot my BB storm with an AK47. God I hate that thing!!!

Rooting the phone will not stop a froyo 2.2 update will it? I thought ROMs had this functionality built in but rooting by itself does not.

So I make a directory on my harddrive C:/fascinate and extract into that then follow instructions? And I dont have to use SDK with this 1-click root?

I ran part1.bat and now I see adb connection will be reset. restart adb server on desktop and relogin.

It has been like this for 5 minutes. I assume this has hung up? Phone never did anything.

**edit**
ran part1.bat again and it started pushing files...

It is stuck again at 10/kbs(257 bytes in .023s)

Do I start part 2 at this point or re-run part1 again...

**edit 2 **
Rebooted and re-ran part one again. Third time was the charm.

I have Titanium and Root explorer back on my phone ;)

Thanks....

There is nothing in the superuser app because you have not used a root app yet. To test if your at a computer then just type
adb shell
su
If you fail to access adb ur in the wrong directory but theres an easier method go to android market and download wireless tething or some other root app. Just search root in market. When you run the app you should see at some point it will ask you for Superuser permissions this means you have root :)

Yes, my phone is rooted. I downloaded Wireless Tether and Set CPU.

Thanks again Dirrk. Your help is much appreciated. Keep up the good work.

Since a lot of people have been able to root without issue it's probably not a big deal...but this

#3 Settings > applications > enable debugging DO NOT MOUNT SD

should probably be

#3 Settings > applications > development> enable debugging DO NOT MOUNT SD

Just trying to make sure it's clear

After 8 or 9 tries with Part1 and getting the adp server reset error each time. It now copied the files over, but now it's still stuck at the adp server reset error.

Anybody know what I should do?

I had SU but when I tried to download TI it said it did not have permission and it could not locate busybox, I am going to try again then I will try to download another program of AA for rooted phones to test. Thank you for all your help.

Ok....newbie here ....after your get your android rooted...how do you go about del. programs like bing ?

download root explorer from the market. it allows you to rename apps you don't want operating. you won't see them in the drawer either. It's been recommended that you simply rename the apps instead of deleting them because other phones have had problems updating when the original apps aren't there. you can move them to the sd card to make space if you want. read http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/34208-apps-safe-remove-once-rooted.html.
