Download terminal emulation, when you open it. Type in su, if it turns into a # your rooted. Also try downloading an apparently for rooted phones.

i did everything the guide says and all i get is a window that pops up and says "daemon not started, starting daemon, daemon started"

then it says press any button.......

so i do

and then it says "error device not connected" or error device not found......

i have installed the x64 windows drivers (running Windows 7 x64)

i enabled USB debugging and stay awake just as pictured in the guide and rebooted, more than once, verified settings are correct

tried different USB ports, phone beeps and indeed stays alive while connected and is charging

so ALL i needed was the x64 drivers installed and the fascinate.zip folders right? i didnt have to install the SDK or anything else first right?
well hell....let this be a warning guys, i was using the USB cable from my LG enV Touch/LG Ally which is a standard micro USB cable that works with any other device i have ever used that uses micro USB....except the Sammy Fascinate, went and got the cable out of the box that came with the phone and it works now. whats interesting is the phone would charge fine off of the standard micro USB cable, but it wont work for data

so may want to add that to the tutorial, to make sure users are using the cable that came with the phone, not one that looks the same

Good info, but I will not add it to the tutorial because it would just further confuse people...I am about to update the phone tutorial in a sec to include an even easier way. Alls you do is verify that the phone connects and it does everything else

I am very new at this. I am following vid step by step. When he says to copy rar file. It is not the same. It is fascinate.zip. Is this the same?

No. Just follow my guide, if you have a brain enough to install the drivers then the rest is idiot proof. You just click on an application and wait until it says complete.

ok... first off, awesome work. Second, i just realized that Dirrk was from Va beach, even better ;). anyways im having a problem with the one click method, I have been going crazy over here, plus my dog is barking at everyone out the window, so its making it worse. Anyways I installed everything and everything seems to be fine. It recognizes my device and everything. Then I "press any key" it starts pushing the files, and immediately restarts my phone, then the cmd promp starts trying over and over again to run the sleep utility. At the end it says "Restarting your phone now, error; device not found, Complete". I check my phone and obviously no kind of rootage has occoured. Can you think of anything I am doing wrong. I have debugging enabled and all of that.

Thanks in advance.

Did you extract the file into a folder before running the START_ROOT

Also which version of the root are you running v01 or v02

I was running version 2, and i extracted it to my desktop into the default folder that winrar made.... is that not legit?

I am having some issues, and I hope someone can help.

I followed all the steps. When I get to the point where the phone reboots the first time, everything goes great. I wait. It comes up

"Sucessfully exploited, installing permanent root files and deleting temp files error: device not found."

My drivers are properly installed, the device is on and plugged in. What is even more strange is that it is acting as if it were successful because then it restarts the phone again and states it is complete. But it isn't. There is no root.

Any ideas? Has anyone else seen this?

+thanks for OP. Took less than five mins to root the Fascinate. Great work Dirrk! Time for some wireless tether now!

I'm having a problem. When I run START_ROOT, after I press the "any" key, my laptop starts to push files to the phone and then just quits and the program goes away. Nothing else happens. Takes about 3 seconds after I press the key to start the process.

Ok, I am still having the original problem, but i have noticed that it seems like it is trying to recognize the phone before it comes back on. I was seeing it say that it needed an invalid ip adress or something. could this have something to do with it? Im really stressing it because I have rooted soo many phones and am coming up short on this and it seems like everyone is having success, and its such an easy method. Ok, well thanks again :)

Confirmed Wireless Tethering Wireless Tether 2.05-pre9

I believe I have completed the root. How do I verify if it was successful? What exactly is an .apk file and how do i get the one listed above into my phone to allow for wireless tethering?

wireless tethering

I think I did it and verified it is correct. While using wireless tethering, can more than one device connect to your tether?

Thanks ALL>>>>>>

Questions about rooting
Just got a Fascinate a week ago. Enjoying it mostly. I am considering rooting it, and I have a couple of questions.
First, I have not paid Verizon for the mobile broadband usage that allows wireless tethering. If I root the phone, will I be able to use another app to do wireless tethering without paying for it?
Second, if I root the phone, will the warranty be voided?
Third, what kind of performance improvement can I expect if I root? Right now, with no active apps running, I only have about 25% free memory. Things run fairly smooth, but I haven't run a lot of apps at once for fear of taxing it too much.
Thanks.

This was like ******ed easy.... All you users complaining need to not have a android phone. :(

All situations are different, there's really no gaurantee that it will work, there are millions of applications available for windows and any one of them could be installed on someone's pc and interfere with the installation. Or they could be using the wrong cable, or some system files on their hdd could be corrupt, etc. No need in belittling those having issues. People will have much more respect for you if you're helpful, rather than posting something with little to no value.

I have gone through the process with no errors, but after that I am not sure where to go? How do I locate the files? How do I know if the root has been sucessfull. The window in START_ROOT just disappears after it says its loading up files. Sorry if this is a dumb question, thanks!
