Are those the rm su and the like on the device through an emulator? If so I did and it said I couldn't do it.

Nevermind. I tried it agian and reloaded the apps and they said they had root access now.

Finally got DL09 to root. Tried z4, tried one-click, tried manual. Finally using the files in FascinateRoot_v02 and the instructions from XDA (here xda-developers - View Single Post - Rooted )...it worked.

The key for me was where the instructions say "wait...", I had to wait ~30-40 minutes. I read another forum member had to wait 50 minutes. In one of the original sets of instructions (I forget which) it tells you to wait 3 minutes, and kill the process if it's not done in 5 minutes. So if you get to that point and it looks like it's just sitting...don't give up! Let it sit for a good long while.

Finally commit to root and it won't work?

So I've been talking about how if I didn't get 2.2 by january I was going to root and get it anyway. I've finally downloaded the software, uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers, etc. It says when's I run the program that my device isn't connected. I've unplugged, replugged, and done everything. I think the new media sync launch from the update today is messing me up. Any thoughts?

What am i missing here ?

I am getting this error as well. Win7 problem?

I just rooted my phone using this method. when ever i go into Rom Manager and try to make a back up it says, "file signature could not be found. failed to make back up." why is this happening? I'm new to this. everything else worked out perfect. I'm rooted and everything else works.

I know the extension. I renamed the entire file, so instead of keeping the version # as part of it i renamed the whole thing. skype_938493_askdjf.apk (whatever)
is renamed to skype. anyone know the original name to these apps??

bing, dlna, vcastvideo, skype, blockbuster, kindle, vnav, and vcast music

This root procedure still works with DL09

All, to get the rooting procedure to work requires a simple edit of the start_root.bat file (right click on file and edit).
Change the line - call PMSLEEP 60 to call PMSLEEP 100

Also when the phone reboots the first time unplug the USB cable from the phone. After it's back up and running plug back in and force the mounting of the sd card.

Worked for me without a problem!
Rooted again! On DL09

The download I'n method two of the OP is already edited

This was my first time rooting the phone; the manual root instructions work great..Thanks! However my 'waiting' time was like almost an hour, so be patient.

The files that we copied into the SD card, can I delete them?

That flash is just for the kernel for Clockwork mod, it will not wipe your system and you will retain your root. you wont see any differnce as long as you use the file from that thread. otherwise rom manager/CMW wont work

Edit, actually look in the rom and hacks section there is a new version for DJ05 and DL09

Thanks DroidXcon! I just tried all that stuff and it kept failing when I went to install the update.zip file. I have Recovery (2e) if that helps. Is there a different way I have to do it?

ya, I tried both update.zip files and it still didn't work.

My phone is rooted though and I have superuser access. I can use all the apps for rooted phones, I just cant back it up in rom manager and I don't want to run a rom until I can back this puppy up.

I'm going to read the dlo9 you just posted and possibly try those methods. thanks again

Hi everyone, I'm new to rooting and changing anything on my Fascinate, but I'm tired of the lag and I just want stock android with no vzw stuff or bing.

So a few questions (not sure where else to post this) but what is the difference between rooting (what does that actually do?), flashing a rom, and a kernel? Theres a lot of information to absorb here...

basically i'm trying to experience the stock android love. does rooting wipe away all my user data? what about flashing rom or kernel?

Thanks guys for any replies.
