[How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and OTA works too!)

yeah i'm going to head thataway momentarily, thanks.

superuser is installed and apparently working..when i ran the tether app is gave me a 'blahblah is requesting superuser status' so i'm assuming it is.

Yep, you are rooted correctly. Definitely post your issue in the appropriate recovery thread.

So who still has a ginger with a soul?? Mine comes and goes. Sometimes I allow it to have a soul.. sometimes I dont. Tool works beautifully. Follow the instructions and you will get it. Bravo on the tools Drew cant wait for more :)

More is coming, more is coming. Some really cool things are in development and more are in R&D so stay tuned ;)

By the way, thanks so much for this thread. Prolly shouldn't admit it but I've never rooted a phone and while I have a decent working knowledge of Linux, I was still kind of apprehensive.

Your method took me less than 10 minutes and was very easy to follow. I cleared a bunch of Sprint crap off and can finally use all the kickass 'rooted only' apps. It's like a new phone. Thanks!

Meant to post before but Drew, you da man! What an easy method. I used it to root my daughter's phone. Thank you :)

It's about to get easier, too. Not sure when, but I've got some things cooking up over here. For example, a new rooting method that's never been done before. It'll still use gingerbreak, but slightly tweaked to provide noobs with the easiest possible rooting experience yet still use the command line.

Haha of course I did it before the "easier" method! Seriously I am one of those people who thinks it is a good idea for people to at least get an introduction to the command line. You never know when you might have to troubleshoot. Thanks again!

Can't Get past gingerbreak

I've read thru this thread and saw 3 postings about this issue but didn't see an answer.

Optimus S (Android 2.2.2)
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9
SW Version LS670ZVD

I get to ./gingerbreak and it just sits at the flashing bar.
I have tried it 7 or 8 times (removing battery between attempts). No change "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" - Albert Einstein

$ chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/*
chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/*
$ /data/local/tmp/gingerbreak
/data/local/tmp/gingerbreak

Pull the battery and try again, you have to pull the battery before attempts

yeah i can help you later or you can try gingersnap

"Can't Get past gingerbreak" <- I tried another 4 times (removing battery each time and waiting 20 sec). Same issue. I even tried it on both a winxp and win7 box (it gets to the same point and stops)

Either of you want me to screen share and get this done for you

open adb shell and see if you have # if you dont and have $, type su (check your phone for superuser prompt (assuming you have superuser installed) and click allow. if nothing shows up or said denied, then you are not rooted

I did the above and clicked on "allow" for the superuser prompt on my phone. Does that mean I'm rooted now?

When I open up adb shell, I get the $ instead of # again. When I type su, then it'll change to the # sign.

Yeah # means you are rooted
