[How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and OTA works too!)

Apparently, it did work properly, and I am rooted. I'm having some issues with the Clockwork stuff, but I've posted in that forum. And I'm sure I'll get the help I need.

Thanks for all of this. It's been very helpful. :)

So can't get past step 8

it runs but never stops...just a continuous - sendmsg <> failed?

I tried both the ./gingerbreak and
/data/local/tmp/gingerbreak commands.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot the problem?

do you still need help or are you set?

Hey guys, I've updated OptimusRootZVD.zip to include Superuser.apk. Install using your favorite file manager.

EDIT: Also includes the adb.exe binary, so you don't need to worry about installing the Android SDK and whatnot.

Thanks DroidXcon!

At 12:15 pm EDT 4/29, the OptimusrootZVD.zip download does not include adb.exe...only busybox, gingerbreak, su and superuser.apk.

Hi, I'm another newb here and I made it to the step where you input adb shell and it says "error:device not found"
I don't know whats wrong I did the sdk updated and unzipped all the root docs to my documents and my android is plugged in. Any help to get this newb rooted would be awesome.
The only thing thats different is I haven't done the OTA update just yet because I don't want to loose my teethering ability. Once the command horribleness :'( is figured out I was going to update

@synthentic Please make sure that you have downloaded and installed proper drivers for your device, also make sure that your phone is in debugging mode, Use the USB ports in the back of your computer if you are not already doing so
@Chilinski ok i attached the new folder with adb files included to this post

To use the folder with adb files
  • extract the folder.
  • place the folder on the C driver of your computer
  • Open cmd terminal as stated in OP
  • type cd C:\RootZVD then hit enter
  • after you are in this folder you can enter the commands without having to have set up sdk

EDIT: download was added to OP

Everything was going okay until step #11.

I was on the last command but when I entered it the whole thing just went frozen and started beeping and said no such file file or directory. What do I do?

11) Copy su and busybox to /system/bin

Quote:
cat su > /system/bin/su
cat busybox > /system/bin/busybox
cat Superuser.apk /data/app/Superuser.apk

I was on the very last command

Try it with the arrow sign. I wonder if the directions had you push that file earlier. Anyway if that does not work type exit then

adb install superuser.apk

Well, I assumed this command just installed the superuser apk. I can do that myself right? Anyway, I just continued with the process and wireless tether is working so I guess I did it right. Thankyou for the assistance.

Now it does. Accidentally uploaded the wrong one *facepalm*

The correct file is now attached to the OP. Might want to delete the one on your post to prevent confusion.

So I got it.

Persistence (i ran the first 7 steps about 4 times) and patience...it took a few minutes and apparently many "sendmsg <> failed?" lines are normal.

Just when I was ready to give up it worked.

I can't remember what the line was now (something about time to dance?)...but it may be helpful to add that line to the OP so we know when it it complete.

Thanks so much for the support here.

No matter how many times and how many ways i have done this, it fails at step 9 and tells me i'm not allowed to mount because obviously it did not successfully root, gingerbreak does its thing and finishes so i dont know what to do.

have you been pulling the battery between attemps?

The way you know it worked is if you get a "#" shell instead of "$". Then you have to remount read-write and install su/busybox/Superuser.

As long as people READ about rooting (not just reading this guide), that part should be pretty obvious.

Ok I got both the SDK up and running or i can do it the rootzvd way. All i have to do now is enter the lines. but before i do that i have a question, if for some reason i have to remove the root process how is that done? I want to root but stick with the stock rom, i am only rooting to gain access to certain apps. storage memory is not a problem for me so stock rom will work just fine for me, but if for some stupid reason i have to take phone in for repair.....Screen...! My next question is this still allows for OTA updates, if a update should come out EX. 2.3 (end of may) will this remove the root process and will it still work with 2.3 (after re-rooting 2.3)?
Thanks for all your hard work guys!

Unroot your phone and return to stock thread (sticky)
+
page 18 of that thread for the dead d/l links from page 1

or other option is*** (IMO, BEST WAY)

(simplified return to stock recovery thread) -see my signature in next post for link
+
[How-to] Revert to LS670V9, after installing OTA LS670VC/VD, using KP500 (Diag mode) thread -see my signature in next post for link

(read through WHOLE post first, i would recommend using Force Flash VD if you install a custom ROM, also to view your phone screen on your computer (usb debugging turned on, have Java Runtime Environnement 5 or later installed )
androidscreencast - Desktop app to control an android device remotely - Google Project Hosting

also, OTA updates are evil (use LG Mobile Support Tool -program used to download the usb drivers to your computer) always if/when there is a new update)
