[How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and OTA works too!)

When Android SDK doesn't see JDK

The truth of the matter is I'm making my one post to download the zip file, but I thought I'd share an answer, just in case it hasn't been raised here before. For some reason, even after installing Java SE JDK, the installer for Android SDK will say that it's not installed. Weirdly enough, the fix is simply hitting the back button from the screen that says JDK is not installed, and then hitting the next button again (of course, this assumes you have installed the JDK). Took me about 5 minutes to find that, so I thought I'd place it here if it could help someone else.

Okay. I'm a forty something noob, but I can follow instructions.

I know this stuff seems basic to you all who have rooted before, but some rudimentary stuff is keeping me from rooting.

I get the error, 'device not found'. Am I supposed to install certain usb drivers from LG in order to be in a certain mode for this to work?

I'm having a hell of a time rooting my optimus s, z4root don't wanna work nor the drivers I've downloaded for the pc work either

I did it, thank you

I am now rooted and reborn. I can't thank everyone enough from the information, work and support. I literally knew nothing about adb or sdk and sifted through pages of material. Totally worth every minute.

To anyone new reading this, I didn't get it on my first try, but I had it on my third. Not sure what the hell I screwed up, but...well, there it is. :D

So I've tried to back-up my phone and I think I installed the Custom Recovery, but for some reason when I try and run the adb backup recovery I don't get a back up and restore option

if anybody is having problems make sure you have a sd card in then it should work because thats what the exploit is based off of and i didnt see that in the OP any where

A coupple of tips from one noob to the next... was getting major trouble from sendmsg() failed error and found this link.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-...g-failed-bad-luck-fixed-vold-gingerbreak.html
ended up pulling the sd card durring the errors and put it back in then it completed.

Then not knowing how to install the ROM, did the "adb shell" thing and then had to type "su" to get the "#" prompt.

Now i am rooted with custom recovery wondering what to do next??? LOL good luck

I am not having any luck rooting my optimus s. The phone connects fine in debugging mode and the adb tools are on my computer and it seems to be fine going through the process. When I run gingerbreak(Step 8) it scrolls some things and then nothing happens. I have let it sit for a half hour and the new shell never comes. Is there a prerequisite step? Do I need the SDK Tools, or maybe I should revert? Or maybe there is a certain setting I need to have on while I am doing this. Thoroughly confused!

I have the micro card removed. I have about 6 attempts in and am getting the same thing..

Any help is appreciated.
