Yes.

So there is hope that someone who has never owned a droid can follow directions and with a little help root their Optimus S and do a nandroid backup, as an added measure of safety to keep from possibly bricking the phone.

Now on to try a ROM and see the advantages of rooting one of these, as I've been using it regularly for about three weeks now since I got it and have something to compare it to.

Happy to help thats what were all here for.....

One more thing always make a nandroid backup when flashing a new rom or anything else that you might not be sure about....You can never have to many backups.....You'll save yourself a lot of time later......

I'm doing this on a Mac, downloaded and updated the SDK, have followed all instructions to the letter, but when I try to get into adb shell, it says error: device not recognized. I've tried everything - rebooting the computer, rebooting the phone, etc. Anyone have any ideas??

I do have debugged mode turned on (and allowed non-Market apps). Where do I download LG drivers for MAC? I've only been able to find the Windows file.

make sure you have the drivers to the phone installed first. After installing them, then plug in your phone using the usb cable. Make sure usb debugging is turned on prior to connecting phone to computer

Your freakin it out with no card, maybe try with card in.

It is rooted now. I had to remove the micro SD Card I was using with all my orig app data and put a new one that has not been formatted for the phone. Aparently Xploit needs to have the micro card in but my original one with my phone data on it was causing problems. After rooting and flashing the new ROM it works fine. So far so good!

I am running the Reborn ROM.

Finally got my phone rooted and everything worked perfectly! Thanks to jcwxguy and Thabyrdman for answering my questions! I flashed it with Reborn rom and everything is fine. I've got one more question. How do you save pictures from a MMS message to your gallery or is this not possible now?

you have press on picture in your MMS until the option pops up! I save pictures all the time that my wife sends me of my granddaughters
