[How To] Unroot and return to stock [RUU Method]

idk if you can help me but every time i try to run the RUU i get an error message that says

I installed the htc sync on my computer but its not letting me run the RUU any help? thanks a lot!

It looks like it could be a corrupted download - I get these sometimes from shipped rom .com and don't know why, it's like some work better than others. I also read that some RUUs behave different between 32/64bit OSes, I would try to re-download the RUU or pick a different one.

i cant seem to unroot my evo i get stuck on the black htc evo screen i tryed running the ruu again withough siconecting the phone but it would just stop after i hit update ive beeing trying to unroot for a while please help !http://forum.androidcentral.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

so im having another issue. i know you say keep trying at the usb error. i tried all the other RUU's but only one works on my computer so i figure its the right one. Also this is idk mabye the 10th attempt +.. Also i noticed that the steps that it gives me are just step one theres no 1, 2 ,etc.. i am on the white screen any help?

mine wouldn't recognize my phone, even after about 8 tries (yes, USB debugging was on)...


so i selected the USB option on my phone (can't remember the exact title of the line)--chose the "update" option for it to verify information on my phone, and it immediately recognized and started the process.

You don't need to back up anything to do a ruu and return to stock. What its doing is erasing your phone and re installing the stock firmware.

No nandroid or anything needed.

NOTICE - FIX

FOr all of those getting the USB error and pr the 500 crash error randomly and over and over again.. Here is what I did to fix it and get a first time go.

Phone: EVO 4g Sprint
Rooted with: unrevoked
When? After latest update.. like 3 days ago

Well this is where I found the issue.

Instructions say:

Boot phone by holdine Vol down and power.. Stopping @ the
Skatbording Droids.

Well there is one more step that I did..

Scroll down and select fast boot.

Now load and run RUU..

Work 1st time go for me.

well it gave the USB connection problem message and now my phone is locked into a black screen with the htc logo on it. It is unresponsive to the software now. Should I power down the phone? Take out the battery? What should I do in order to retry as you have instructed?

Hey Johnny, I'm not familiar with your problem but lets see what's up.

Can you pull the battery and see what happens next?

Actually you know what, just re-run the RUU file (put the battery back in) - it may pick it right back up.

If it doesn't, take the battery out, unplug it so it powers off then power it back on and lets see where it's at.

Don't hit HTC sync, just connect it and run the RUU.
