[How To] Unroot and return to stock [RUU Method]

RUU question?

i was wondering what the differences are between the different ruu's. i know that they are different sw versions, but if i were to put one on and it happens to be the wrong one(worried about radio versions here), will i potentially fry my phone?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Nope, it would just down grade your phone radio.

Hm, I've seen that before where the RUU file didn't download completely, I would try to download it again.

Or you can get the latest stock software here: Index of /evo/stock/RUU/

Grab this file: RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe

K maybe I can get help here for what I'm getting. I'll try to describe what I've done to get to this point, but am hoping I don't need to unroot (I don't currently have root) which the OP indicates I may lose the ability to do permanently if I follow these steps.

So I did a TB with z4root and thought I could use that method to get root to go into recovery. Definitely didn't think that one through but needless to say I did not gain permanent root, nor flash any roms. In following one of the current root methods which includes updating hboot drivers, I somehow managed to have the USB drive lose all information about my phone. It just shows 'unknown device' and can't update the drivers with the Android USB Drivers file I downloaded. Have done a factory reset and that doesn't seem to fix the issue. Have rebooted both PC and phone of course. Think that is everything that's been done...appreciate any help.

BTW the device still functions as normal.

You can only lose permanently if you use an RUU that cant be rooted, and since they all can be rooted youre fine.

You dont need to do an RUU either, just get perma root and your good.

can you explain that second statement?

I think I need to do an RUU because I think I have a corrupted file causing my PC to not recognize my device as 'Android 1.0'

I can't do anything with root because it doesn't recognize the device so drivers don't know what to do.

after i did this a system update come up on my phone can i update and then root it again and unroot it the same way or i cant?

You will have to use a newer root method than the one you use previously most likely. I wouldnt install the OTA.

@bigfire Than run the RUU before you root, its not gonna hurt anything :p

hey im new to this i dont know if im in the right place to ask this but jist in case im an here it is, will i hade my evo flashed to metropcs. will the ruu on here remove that to so i can go back to sprint.

I have NO experience when it comes to flashing phones to cricket or MPCS.

@jimmy, everything is going to be erased when you root, so back-up with app brain and make sure your contacts are synced with google. Head to freds rooting guide. - This is for unrooting.?

no i got the file but something was missing so i just download it agen it sounds like your pc is not reading the file
