How to Voodoo ***Updated 27 Mar 2011***KERNEL BUILT FROM SOURCE/SOUND/UNDERVOLTED

Sorry guys, I've been told we need to tighten our sticky belts. No more than 5 sticky threads per forum.

no worries, its just funny, this thread has been a thread atleast 3 different times. lol.

if i got my pie that stinkin sheepdog stole, would you allow 6 stickies? ;)

Quick question about Kernels

Alright so I have finally rooted using this guide http://forum.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate-rooting-roms-hacks/59348-odin-froyo-leaked-packaged-custom-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-10-a.html and I downloaded "[NO DATA WIPE MAY CAUSE FC IF COMING FROM ECLAIR] Super Clean version 2.9 - EB01/EB16 Froyo leak root+Froyo Clockworkmod with MALWARE protectionTHIS VERSION DOES NOT WIPE DATA OR CACHE (TESTED by Standupdad Please thank him)RIGHT CLICK AND SELECT EXTRACT HERE THE .rar file AFTER DOWNLOADING AND BEFORE USING(How to extract in post #2) -->EB16SC29x_DXC.tar". Now I am looking at ROM Manager and under "jt1134" there is Kernels:Voodoo. From what I understand it overclocks the phone. Is it okay for me to download Vodoo on top of whatever kernel I have?
Thank you for your time.

You want to flash the rom you downloaded in ODIN not in rom manager, rom manager causes issues and won't work properly

eb 16 nonvoodoo

Voodoo doesn't overclock your CPU, it just changes the sytem indexing. There's not really a noticable difference between voodoo and nonvoodoo atm so it's highly recommended you stick with nonvoodoo until you get a handle on how to do everything. It's simpler, less steps, harder to screw up and it's basically the same performance wise.

Do not use ROM Manager. Read Gunnermike's guide on Voodoo here. Don't jump into voodoo until you fully or at least mostly understand what it is and what it does. It is not the same as over clocking. It changes the file system on the phone from a propreitary RFS file system to EXT4 and has a few other benifits.

As far as I know there are no highly modified kernels for Froyo builds because the source hasn't been released yet. However you can find a mildly modified kernel by Adrynalyne and JT1134 here

Someone else please correct me if I am wrong. Hope this helps!

Well I guess I'm confused on how people are overclocking there phones 1500 and up where as I'm using SetCPU and have it on the same settings but only clocking stock numbers. Is it because I'm using the leaked version of Froyo?

Short answer yes

We won't be able to overclock the phones until the official source code is released, and only god and batman know when that will be...

first of all, its really cool to see how far some of you guys have come along. i wanna say thanks for passing it forward the the "new noobs".

and to dreman1990. overclocking is overrated. you dont get that much performance increase. what you do get is a HUGE risk of REAL hard ware damage. most of the crap you do to yor phone is just software and has very little risk. overclocking you phone effect the hard ware. very little benefit very very high risk. a roooted debloated rom and maybe voodoo will give you all the performance you could dream of.

Hey sorry guys but I did everything perfectly have super clean 2.9 with eb01 froyo and I flashed the red cwm enabled the lag fix and it says that next boot it will be enable, but than it never does the enabling. It just boots into my regular old froyo with super clean non voodooed. whats the problem? everything is exactly as the guide says and the system lag fix conversion is on but it still is not making the change. thank you

get the eb16 kernel from here:

http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...-roms-hacks/68222-real-time-eb16-kernels.html

try that and let me know what happens.

Thanks alot gunnermike, that was the problem after all, but I figured it out before I downloaded the eb16 kernels and downloaded voodoo for eb01 which still works fine. Is there a major performance increase or are they both around the same? Again thanks a lot for your quick reply

mostly the differance is the wireless teather. there some other differances, you MAY, MAY, see some battery performance increase.

Just a quick question. I'm coming from SuperClean 2.9.1 Non Voodoo/ Eb16 and I've been reading this thread alot just to make sure I've covered everything. I'm assuming its safe to flash a voodoo over a non voodoo. (I was thinking of trying EC 10 voodoo) Also before I flash voodoo, should I do a backup and clear data?

back up is a good idea. no data and cache wipe needed. you should be fine to flash away.

Well... here goes nothing...Will edit to see how it went.
Thanks for your reply gunner. Without you and the other great people on this forum I would be stuck with my crappy stock fascinate. =)

Edit - So I did recovery from my phone and it brought me to blue CWM which I understand that its just telling me that I have froyo. I do the install update assuming it will bring me to red but it brings me to orange. In sheepdogs sticky it mentions orange isnt suitable for fascinate, is it okay to proceed or is there other steps I need to do to go back to red?

Download the CWM all

Install it with odin, if you need instructions go here and just use the file I pointed you to.
