How to Voodoo ***Updated 27 Mar 2011***KERNEL BUILT FROM SOURCE/SOUND/UNDERVOLTED

well actually i dont know if i'm running voodoo. i'm on sc 2.9.2. i automatically assumed i was. and as far as sound issues it just isnt that loud with movies and music, even with headphones.

On the first page of this thread theres a post that says " How to tell if i have voodoo" You basically run Terminal Emulator and look for ext4
As far as your sound being low the new kernel allows for downloading an app and increasing the gain for the headphone and some other stuff. But if your sound volume is already low i cant say. Mine has always seemed to be ok. This might be a dumb question but have you ever tried increasing the volume while playing music with the volume rocker?

At any time during your upgrades did your reboot take like 15 minutes, and during that time did you hear a lady droid voice saying different things? If you didn't, you aren't running voodoo, and you will just have to wait a little while longer for nonvoodoo kernels to come out.

Actually... I when I first went to voodoo, the reboot only took about 5 minutes or so and there was no lady android voice... but gunnermike had me do this:

cant let you get away with that:

quadrent will give you an idea. the proper way is with terminal emulator. give the post a read.

As it was... I was voodoo'd, but for some reason did hear the voice.

yea, even with the volume all the way up its not great, i mean it's good enough but i know if i plug in the ipod its so much louder. and as terminal emulator goes i have never even tried or barley know what is so i think maybe i should just wait. i dunno.

it is VERY simple....

download Terminal Emulator from the market

open it

you will see a $, type the letter su, hit enter

you will see a #, type the letter mount, hit enter

you will then see this:

Code:
mount
rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0
proc /proc proc rw,relatime 0 0
sys /sys sysfs rw,relatime 0 0
/dev/block/stl9 /system ext4 rw,relatime,barrier=0,data=writeback,noauto_da_all oc 0 0
/dev/block/stl11 /cache ext4 rw,noatime,barrier=0,data=writeback,noauto_da_allo c 0 0
/dev/block/stl10 /dbdata ext4 rw,noatime,barrier=0,nodelalloc,data=ordered,noaut o_da_alloc 0 0
/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /data ext4 rw,noatime,barrier=1,data=ordered,noauto_da_alloct he

if you see ext4 at all 4 of those places, you are good to go

OK, so mine says rfs, so that means im not voodoo

You need to also download a free app called blinky. Once you enable that, the BLN will work.

I started with the free BLN version and it worked but I wanted the flashing option so I just upgraded after about five minutes. That worked too......kinda like the Titanium backup -free version first then the paid one works?

OK so let me see if i got this right.

1. put super_frankenclean_2_9_2v.zip voodoo on my SD
2. clear data and cache
3. choose zip from sdcard
4. install reboot

and then it will flash over the rom i have on there now. then pretty much the same steps to add EC10 source - Voodoo(lagfix+sound)+BLN+UV+Misc tweaks

do i got this or am i wrong and on my way to phone hell..lol :)

if you are going from non-voodoo to voodoo (which it sounds like you are) you need to go to "voodoo" in cwm, then enable lagfix... THEN reboot....

This is ALL from the VERY FIRST POST in this thread (Gunnermike did a great job to put the steps together, so "Thank" him)

it will take a while to reboot, so dont worry

how does it work going from a non-voodoo kernel to a voodoo kernel? Is it treated the same as roms? I would love to have this but I never went voodoo before.

Ok so i used odin to get 2.9.2 so does that mean that i cannot use this kernal?

If you're not experienced at all with flashing ROMs, themes, kernels, and patches in clockworkmod recovery (cwm), and only know how to use ODIN, I would recommend staying away from voodoo for now. Too easy to get into trouble.

LOL... Land Shark has really taught me a lot about posting things that really don't need to be posted... as I was very guilty of it myself. It is NEVER bad to ask question, but you are in the "How to Voodoo" thread asking "How do I get voodoo" when the process is outlined very extensively by gunnermike in the FIRST post. It is doing him a discredit by asking what steps to take when they are right at your fnigertips, you just have to put some legwork in on your own and read it. I can understand if you has specific technical questions about what the steps do or if you make a mistake, but if you would have read the FIRST post in its entirety, the last 10 or so posts on this thread would not have been necessary.

As far as "going voodoo" is concerned i actually had more questions about non-voodoo when i first started and didnt even know voodoo existed. But thanks to the help of Landshark, droidxcon and others i was up and running in a couple of hours. It was only a week later i went voodoo and i think i had 1 or 2 questions which were nicely answered. All in all its not that "hard" but like Landshark says if your not familiar with CWM or Odin at the least then stay away for now....but none the less i still dont mind helping people along like they helped me.

And just for everyone's clarification, GETTING to voodoo is not the problem. It's just like rooting. Follow the instructions exactly as they are laid out and no problem, easy as can be. Where you are likely to get into trouble is once you are on voodoo and flash the wrong thing. You are likely not going to come back to the instructions every time you want to do something in voodoo. So you don't have the warnings right in front of you. You forget you are on voodoo, flash something nonvoodoo, now you are in a world of hurt. That's why I recommend new rooters gain some experience in nonvoodoo. Learn how to flash everything possible. Learn how to get out of and avoid mistakes. Because those same mistakes in voodoo will have more damaging consequences. So yes, there's been a mad rush of new people going to voodoo, and yes, quite a few have come back to rub it in my face asking why did I discourage them from going to voodoo, it was so "easy." Well it's also real easy to goof up in voodoo.
