How to Voodoo ***Updated 27 Mar 2011***KERNEL BUILT FROM SOURCE/SOUND/UNDERVOLTED

Just flashed jt1134's new EC10 Voodoo over Adrynalyne's EC10 voodoo. I cleared the cache and the dalvik cache. Then I flashed the new EC10. Everything went fine, phone rebooted and everything is running fine except for my videos. I went to view one of my videos and it starts the first second or two and then freezes the phone. I've tried it with multiple videos and freezes each time. Is there something I did or didnt do? Or is this just a rare complication. I would like to get my videos back if at all possible. Any input is welcome.

Edit - Also just noticed a game just froze at the title. Make that 2 games.

Ok I have another question im on 2.9.2 sc voodoo and going to wipe data how far will it take me back do I need to go nonvoodoo first or will it just work. Im at work right now and can't do anything with odin so I have to be carefull

I just did this the other day after working on the fix permissions issue with GizmoDroid over at XDA and doing my best Gunner impression by flashing like 10 million things in the span of two days. Don't think of it as "taking you back" like doing an ODIN to DI01. When you wipe data in cwm, you never reboot out of cwm. So after wiping data, cache, and dalvik, you can just flash 2.9.2 voodoo and reboot. No need to enable lag fix, but before rebooting it wouldn't hurt to check in the voodoo section to make sure it says next reboot will be enabled. After reboot, you can boot back into cwm and flash whatever else you need to in addition to the 2.9.2v ROM - theme, patches, mods, etc.

Try reflashing the kernel and wiping cache and dalvik a couple times. If that doesn't work we'll move on

So what exactly is overclocking?

Overclocking increases the cpu's clock speed to achieve faster performance

But pretty much all the experts say the minimal performance gain you may not even notice is not worth the high risk you run of cooking your cpu. Even Gunnermike53, who puts frogs in his phone, speak out against overclocking. Our phones with the 1GHz Hummingbird processor are plenty fast, especially with the great sauce the devs are cooking up.

It's mostly because overclocking a single core CPU by 200 mHZ isn't really much of an increase, whereas overclocking my 6 core AMD cpu on my desktop by the same amount is a massive increase in processing speed. Also on a desktop you have much better airflow, ventilation, cooling. Overclocking the phone's cpu will make it run harder and hotter and since we can't increase it's cooling ability it will drastically shorten the chip's lifespan.

Great explanation. Thanks.

If only we could tweak the clock speed (x) multiplier we could see some crazy overclocking. But my guess is that the chip has a locked multiplier.

Just cleared both a couple times and then reflashed the kernel. Same thing keeps happening. I'm guessing something happened with my data, maybe corrupted it or something. I know this new kernel is uv but it seems like my screen transitions are a little slow. I ran the a benchmark and got 1500 which is the same as the previous kernel. No idea whats going on lol.

Edit - Now my phone just froze when it was charging with the screen off and no applications running, except for GoLauncher.

Try flashing through ODIN the new cwm-all from jt1134 HERE, then follow the steps given by GizmoDroid in his last post in this thread HERE to fix permissions.

You guys are just speaking theoretically about overclocking, my personal experience is different.

I agree the benefit in performance on this phone is pretty small, but as far as truly hard bricking the device I doubt that's a significant risk. I ran my Fascinate overclocked for months, as did many other people, and I've never heard of someone having major issues. If it happens it's rare. OC kernels have been available on Eclair since October!

Remember everyone on here used to be afraid of Voodoo too...

Alright so it seems that all my videos that I have recorded are now working but my downloaded videos are not. Not a big deal since I can just re download. Other apps are still freezing, which forces me to take out my battery. I tried following GizmoDroid's steps to the nandroid thing but I couldn't follow step 3 involving adb. Couldn't find it anywhere in CWM. Also could not find the restore nandroid. I did "fix permission" option. Not exactly sure what that did. I also mounted the system in CWM. Volume boost seems to be working as well. In voodoo control I have all the options up.

Well im back after geting my phone back to how i had it and im happy to report that my phone will not work with other kernels other then only jt's i had to do that data wipe to get it to work so i dont know what what wrong but that fixed it. so thinks to everyone who has been giving me help over the past few days.

Wrong post. I said GizmoDroid's last post in the thread. Ignore what he says about nandroid and just follow these instructions about fixing permissions:

The fix permissions option is working again, but it doesn't verify that /dbdata is mounted first (will be fixed in the next update), so if you are going to run it, make sure you mount /dbdata in the mounts and storage menu, then run the fix permissions option. If you are having trouble after restoring a nandroid, I would suggest running this option.

I agree. I personally think that if your are not familiar with over clocking you should stay away from it as you may not understand certain signs that show problems or what to keep an eye on.

The gain is very minimal. I like to play with different setups and I have been in the computer profession between hardware / software / networking for over 15 years. I am fully aware of the potential risk but also know what to keep an eye on.

I usually try out over clocking for a while and where as there is no real large gain I go back to stock settings. However when I get a new PC or toy that can be over clocked I always have to play with it.

:)

Alright just did exactly as you said. Rebooted and tried running Townsmen6 as a test because that was one of my apps that was freezing. It still froze in the menu. Do I need to do anything else?

Last thing I can think of before having to do a data wipe is go menu=>settings=>applications=>all, find your games, click on them and see if you can wipe the cache for the individual games. If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas so hopefully someone else has an idea.

So then the problem has to do with data? Other games seem to work. Gun bros, pew pew also freeze. I would love to keep my data. Thank you for trying to help Landshark.

Edit - Just noticed action potato was working but when I turn sound effects on and tried to play it froze up. Not sure if that helps. Maybe it has something to do with voodoo control?

Edit - Nevermind. Tried uninstalling voodoo control and then playing action potato and it still froze. However this time instead of me removing the battery to reboot the phone it rebooted on its own.

Edit - Music is now freezing as well. Also the soft keys, when I tap them, act like im pressing them.
