HTC EVO 4G LTE: Last Update 4.13.651.4

any particular reason why they cant simply release the new official update (when it is ready) via OTA, instead of having to completely wipe the phone again. I understood that the reason we could not receive this in the first place was due to the phone being partitioned into to 2 smaller partitions that were originally formatted into the phone, however now that we have a full 16GB only 1 partition, why cant this simply be a normal update as done in the past? Just getting a little tired of the wiping and starting over again. a 4th wipe in a little over a month is not an appetizing proposition.
Well until it's final, we're all testers. Obviously the final update will have to be via RUU, as people who haven't updated will need it. I think sending an OTA is done via Sprint's servers, not HTC's, so that might not be an option.

Because the few who have the internal storage repartitioned is a drop in the bucket when compared to those who have not. And I would imagine that making two different updates, one for the vast majority of EVO LTE owners and one for the very small group who have installed a pre-release, would not be cost effective for HTC. Especially when they are not directly making additional money off of the release.

Consider my post above "in addition" to what Cap said prior :)

That was posted as I was writing my reply.

Using HTC backup including settings, wiping and restoring is so easy, the phone practically restores itself. There's only a couple of apps, and a notification ringtone it misses, ans maybe a calendar checkbox to uncheck, and re logging into a few apps. It's been getting easy compared to the older OS's

No, it can't be unlocked. Sounds like a driver issue. Try a different computer?

I had considered that, but ran out of time. I've got two other computers, or technically 5 others that I can try with. I'll test this out tonight. Four other boxes running Win7 and one still on WinXP. I'll let you know what develops. Thanks.

I had success on my XP machine (though there's about 5 minutes I had to wait for the flash tool screen to show up), and on Windows 7.

I had zero success on Windows 8.1 (RUU opens and fully extracts, and then disappears as if I never ran it).

So, I'm not having too much success getting this installed. I tried another fresh computer with the same results. I then decided to factory reset my phone, thinking that the problem was following the phone since I couldn't run the RUU on a different computer, but even with the phone having fresh factory reset settings, no dice.

So let's talk about drivers..
In my Win7 Device Manager, I have the EVO listed as a Portable Device. Properties on that show its working. The driver mentions it's provided by HTC, released on 10/18/2013, using version 1.0.0.15. Are these correct? If not, what drivers should I be using and where could I get them?

Device should be showing up as "My HTC". Do you have the latest HTC Sync Manager installed? That's what gives you the proper drivers.

Ha! So you're not gonna believe this - I don't have that installed. I'd been reading all over the place that HTC Sync Manager should not be installed for the RUU to work correctly, so I've been completely avoiding that. I'll do that now. Thanks!

EDIT: So now I'm getting the RUU to work. Your suggestion has made it happen. I'm going to list exactly what I did in doing this though.

- Connected the USB cable to the phone
- Auto Run engaged and prompted me to install the HTC Sync Manager
- I accepted it and it began to pull down the software.
- After it completed installing the HTC Sync Manager, I chose not to open the program (I found out later that I would need to at least once)
- I attempted to run the RUU. It failed again.
- I opened the HTC Sync Manager one time to see if the software might change my EVO's attitude. Although understand that prior to doing this, my EVO had USB Debugging enabled.
- I noticed after running the HTC Sync Manager at least once that my phone was prompting me to grant my computer access to my phone for debugging. I accepted this.
- I then closed the HTC Sync Manager and re-ran the RUU.
- RUU ran perfectly and I was not visited by the error 170 message any more.

Thanks again Captain!

If it doesn't work after installing Sync Manager, you can uninstall it and try again; the drivers you need will remain installed.

Usually I tell people to install it and then uninstall it, but since this is a file directly from HTC, Sync Manager shouldn't conflict with it.

I am currently updating my EVO and it has been sitting on "Updating Boot" for 10 minutes now. Is that normal? Should I cancel and try again? Any help would be great.

So I installed the .4 update, and it seems to be working fine. The only problem is sometimes I can't pull down the notification bar? It also seems like my screen doesn't always work right, and not all my programs automatically downloaded like they did on the .3 update. Should I reinstall?? Thanks for any help.

When did the .4 update come out?
