htc Evo Stock 2.2 vs Evo rooted with custom ROM and fps unlocked...

So, it's confession time. Much to Vaelek's disgrace, I've been running the same Fresh since June when we got our phones. I'm really, really anti-change. Needless to say, Vaelpak is not something I've been interested in trying. I've been refusing Fresh updates because he can't promise that everything will be the same.

Well, he sent me a link to this thread this evening. I made it to page 5, and handed my phone over. I'm a little terrified, but you really make it sound worth it. Wish me luck!

LOL! Have fun, I'm sure you'll like it!

Haw!

I even tried it out for a day... In my opinion it is the best Sense Rom out there... I probably think that because it's the most Senseless Sense ROM there is.

I just love CM6... There's no 4G out where I live so Cyanogen's shortcomings don't bother me too much.

Jerzy's a good guy. He deserves a following.

I'm currently using AC-ROM but kinda want to check this out since AC-ROM (while it is still really responsive) has the FPS cap in place.

Question though, i know this is based off Sense but do I lose all of my sense widgets and apps? Clock/Email etc?

Thanks

Yes you will lose all the Sense widgets. There is a sense like clock widget included. I recommend getting Beautiful widgets it covers a lot of the widgets you will lose.

Later,
Dave

Not too bad...

Psh I get that too. Haha

Lol I'm sure you do, but remember, this is a thread comparing stock to custom rom'd...

you kno..stock.. back in those... 24fps NeoCore, crappy screen response, choppy gameplay, laggy days lol... Man, thank GOD we dont have stock 2.2 or ::gasp:: ..................... 2.1!!!! <<<LOL

So thanks to Jerzy I am now the proud owner of a VaelPaked EVO!

I will say that the best thing about the ROM is actually the customer service!!! Funny thing I screwed up my phone (I DID IT NOT THE ROM) and Vaelek actually spent the time over the last day to help me fix the damn thing.

Now that I have it running in a much more stable environment since I hadn't done the root process well enough. I am very impressed with the speed and the ease of things. My benchmarks are not quite where jerzy's are, but they are good enough for me (Quad 1356, Linpack 37ish) which is fine for me. Most important as you pointed out it is incredibly stable (maybe more so than my phone was on the stock 2.2 at least when I stop doing stupid things). Just set up SetCPU and looking forward to see some battery life savings.
Thanks for the tip jerzy and for the push to get me to root as I have learned a lot about my phone and android.

(This Goat still prefers CM6... With a Snap Kernal I've broken 1900 on Quadrant)

Shhhhh...

Then again, I don't have 4G or an HDMI out... (I don't get 4G in my area nor do I own an HDMI mini cable)

I'm glad you like it man! Ya Vaelek is a good dude. Most of the time the problems people have is user error. They either didn't do something right or just tried to mess around with stuff. But he still takes the time to help you fix it. I noticed your posts and I thought it was awesome that he really did try all day to help you. I wont name any names but before I decided on this rom I was looking at another rom. Well this one guy had some issues and the developers response was basically I dont know what happened figure it out yourself.. I happily just clicked myself out of that thread. There are faster roms but 2.0, especially with KingsBFS8 is still VERY fast but most of all it's really really stable. I don't know how he manages to make progress with the rom itself for future updates, help the people that are having problems, regardless of who's fault it is, and somehow still asks people if they have any special requests. But anyway, glad you like it and I hope everything goes smooth from here on out...

Will rooting the phone and loading these custom roms have any effect on the video cameras capability.

I say this because I am having choopy video playback when I ubdated to 2.2 stock and took it to Sprint and they told me I could not bring it back to 2.1.

So now I am looking into this option. So how the HD camera working? I heard their were problems when running these custom Roms in regards to Video recording.
