If HTC plays their cards right these departures could be addition by subtraction. Every single soul in their marketing department should be shown the door.
It sounds like HTC are a run by a bunch of idiots. Firstly, HTC cannot compete with Samsung, and they shouldn't even think about doing so at the moment. Samsung turned over over $200 Billion in 2012; HTC turned over under $10 Billion.
Does that matter? No. Not in the slightest. HTC need to concentrate on being the 'go to' company for tech geeks and those 'in the know', generate a buzz about having handsets which always do everything right. Then, a carefully orchestrated ad campaign supporting the glowing magazine reviews and the slew of of people leaving Apple and Samsung and tweeting and posting about how great HTC phones are.
How about an HTC One which is also water and dustproof with a 3000 MAh battery? And, as it is slightly thicker, get a better lens and bigger sensor in it - maybe an 8 ultrapixel camera anyone? Put a decent set of headphones in the box too.
Make a smaller phone which is basically the same but with a smaller, but equally hi-res screen in pastel colours which appeals to women more.
Put together a ****-hot dev team who work to update Sense as soon as Android updates are out. Make the sense framework as portable as possible, facilitating movement across OS updates more quickly. Google new Play framework will help here.
Pay your marketing team to go online and search for people who are disgruntled and try and find out what the complaints are about. Ask the Smartphone community what they should be looking at developing - guys like Anandtech and XDA and AC.
I don't have a crystal ball, and I have no idea how HTC is run, but things like this suggest there are a lot of idiots involved along the line, making stupid and hasty decisions - probably because of pressure from higher up as they themselves are pressured by the Chairman to get 'results for the shareholders' so he doesn't lose his obscene bonus.
Apple have managed to build great phones which are damn close to being perfect, there is no reason HTC can't.

If the whole of HTC was swallowed into the ocean tomorrow or zapped off the planet, I would be perfectly satisfied with the way the phone is right now. Does it have some bugs, YES (as does every device). Would I like to see updates in either the form of Android or Sense in the future, OF COURSE. That said, there's nothing show stopping or missing for me and the phone is an absolute joy to use day in and out. If I didn't receive a single update from here out I would (honestly) be just as happy a year from now as today.
This isn't me being an exuberant fanboy either, the phone is combination tool and tech toy. I'll use it for 1-2 years, then replace it. It was never intended to last 5 years let alone a lifetime. My biggest concerns with HTC sticking around comes down to two things. Future devices and some form of competition and choice to Samsung.

I still want to see HTC return to the Nexus program. Stock Android updated by Google on HTC hardware? If it's anything like the One, I'd take three.

I sure hope they make it, I really like HTC phones. I would be crushed to feel I had to purchase a Sammy....

For a second I thought that article was about HTC going to hell and their stock prices going into the abyss...nope not at all. Oh wait I guess they are ready to close the doors since they're in a freefall?

There is a difference between "being around" and being a thriving organization. The exodus of so many C-Suite level executives is not necessarily disastrous, but it doesn't raise confidence either.
All companies face strategic challenge, but the goal is to position for robust success and growth. There is no question the company is in a challenging period. I for one would like to see them (and Motorola, Nokia, et al.) thrive, as competition among OEM's is good for industry and for the consumer.
In the interim, I question whether HTC will have the bandwidth to actively support their existing flagship 365+ days from now. That partially affected my decision to forego the One, remain with Verizon, and purchase a GS4. Both are fine devices and I'm hoping for an HTC turnaround.

Last quarter HTC grossed 1.4 billion dollars and made a small profit. They expected about double that this quarter. The two main concerns will be how much did the HTC First hurt that potential and how much supply chain delays hurt them.
I think they will still make a profit, they just aren't putting out the numbers they did 4 years ago.

The HTC First was a complete failure, and I mean badly. Phone has been out for about two months now and AT&T already dropped the price from $99 to. 99 cents. They are not selling at all. HTC should have never come out with two phones at once! Terrible decision by the company.
The HTC One alone is the only thing that's going to save this company. But HTC will have to release a new device for Verizon this summer or fall if it wants to compete with the S4.
The company should also consider entering in the phablet game, and release a 5.5 inch device.

That article likens HTC's situation to T-Mobile's a few years ago. And look at T-Mobile now, rapidly growing and becoming very popular. I wouldn't be surprised if T-Mobile overtook Sprint for the third spot among carriers soon.
