HTC One Battery Life/Stats Discussion

Got the phone yesterday and it was at about 50 percent battery. Charged it overnight, so today is my first full day with the phone as well as my first time with a full charge. Interested to see how it makes out today. I am coming from a 2 year old htc desire hd, so if i make it til noon, its an improvement! lol.

Ya that desire hd was horrible on battery.

I havent used maps at all today, yet it is at the top for wakelocks. How can I fix that?

You don't have to turn off location services, this as the individual above stated will interfere with Google Now and its features. Go into the Maps app... Settings... Location Settings... uncheck "Report from this device" and Automatic check-ins and location sharing if they are checked. In my experience, this drastically cut down on the Maps wakelocks.

Furthermore, I read an article about the power saver feature and decided to give it a try. I enabled the data and CPU options. Yesterday I had my One off the charger from 8:30am until 2am the next morning with 36% battery remaining. I used it how I normally do every day. Typically before I enabled this feature my battery was dying around 10:30 - 11 pm. With respect to the data option of power saver, I still received all of my emails and other notifications throughout the day.

I have the power saver on, manually adjusted the brightness down etc and with constant use (podcasts, Web browsing, texting etc) , I get between 7-8 hrs
Granted, I just got the phone on Friday and it has yet to go through a few charging cycle but this seems pretty typical and isn't that different from what I was getting from my iPhone

I never get decent battery life. Lack of signal at work (although I am hoping that was to do with bad radios in the iPhone - please don't shatter my illusions if you know better) and commuting on the tube and a main line that goes through tunnels for 95% of the journey. As long as it lasts an evening out I will be happy. Oh that and a day fishing when I don't use the phone much would be nice. I cannot wait for it to arrive but reading all your posts does give me confidence in the life of the battery, thank you.

I'm definitely not regretting moving over to the One from my iPhone and this is just 2 days in!

Does that turn off all location features, or just background location services?

I have spent a lot of time figuring out this maps thing eating most of the battery without using it.
1. Turning off Google now will do nothing.
2. Turning off Location services ( GPS) will do nothing.
3. Not using maps will do (wait for it) nothing.

Here's what's going to help guaranteed, open Maps> settings> location > uncheck location history. This feature for latitude user, if you want your friends to know your exact location at times. This should take care of your issue.
I use Google now a lot, navigation, Google search with location on. Everything is good now.

I don't have "location history" I only have Location Service, Satellites, Location and Google Search, and Compass Warning

thanks

Thanks FaisDogg Was in Maps apparently somewhere else LOL

I turned it off. Hope it helps. I did need to exchange my phone....there was clearly something wrong. IT would not charge when plugged in if I was using it. I said I was not using OEM wire and they said that could be the reason (I like a long one to use while laying in bed, etc) Now all my cords work, so it was a phone problem

some other guy was in Tmo doing the same thing

I installed some app that tracked the apps that may have been waking the phone, per one of you, and it had Maps at the top. That is probably the connection to what you said right?

Google now explicitly states that some of the features use location history. Location history explicitly states that the information is for your own use, not for lattitiude and friends knowing your location.

On the standard factory settings, 1.5 hours of video playback uses about 20% of my battery, which would give me 7.5 hours overall without any power saving features. Can anyone let me know if this is normal as I thought video playback was around 10 hours for the HTC One?

7.5 hours of continuous video playback would be great performance. My laptop probably can't last that long.

Hi,

seeing as the HTC one is my first android phone (and I love it), could you guys tell me if this is "normal" battery life? I got the phone last Tuesday. I used it quite a bit today: Listened to 30 minute podcast, listing to spotify (downloaded not streaming), surfing the web, facebook, a bit of blinkfeed, a few phone calls, sms, taking a few pictures, installing a few apps and a slow mo video with power saver not turned on...maybe some more but that's what I remember! I love the phone but somehow I am worried I am not getting the best battery life and that my phone may be defect...Or, maybe I'm just mad.

PS. Go easy on me :)

EDIT: Corrections.

I've had my one for 2.5 weeks now and my typical day gets me down to about 30%, not as good ad I'd like but better than the first week. If only they'd put a 3000mahr battery in it...

I'm liking the camera but I miss the native time lapse feature my SGNexus had.
