HTC One Battery Life/Stats Discussion

I'm trying to understand this bug, as you can see my charge chart is pretty normal until 90% where it shoots up. This must mean that the software is just saying the phone is charged when in reality its not, so taking it off the charger right after it reaches 100 would cause it to quickly drop back to the low 90s.. If the chart were right it would be a nice slow trickle charge to 100. So in other words the phone is lying for whatever reason.

So i just got a HTC One 3 days ago. My battery life has been AMAZING. But yesterday my play store updated and my google now updated. Play store is running 4.4.21. I also put the google experience launcher on there from phandroids video. I unplugged my phone last night and when i went to bed i had 80% 8 hours later i woke up and had 9%. Gsam battery monitor said Google play services? I took off the launcher but now i am stuck with the google now up date and the play store update. i also started using google hangouts. I tried uninstalling the play store update but then google hangouts wont work. Any ideas on what could have caused this? The phone is plugged in charging now so i have been through a days use since this happened but i am just a little worried because that is one of the main things that i was worried about before i got the phone was battery life! All help is greatly appreciated!

If you don't use Google Now you can disable it by going into Apps under Settings and disabling Google Search. At least keep it disabled until they come out with a fix for the battery drain.

Verizon HTC One 4.4.2

I use my phone pretty much constantly throughout the day, mostly for streaming music & podcasts. Generally get around 16 hours with this use, not terrible given the phone is almost a year old.

G sam monitor battery monitor shows that the screen took 64% of battery how to reduce that percentage apart from reducing the brightness and making power saver on ???

Post your screenshot. How much screen on time and how much battery used?

If you just unplugged your phone and used the screen a ****ton, obviously screen ontime will be most of your battery use.

Instead of posting screenshot bec.i cant on this application my screen on time is 4 hours and a half out of 6 hours and the battery is 20 percent now with moderate usage......its the first week of the mobile ...is that normal ??

Hey guys, need a bit of help!

I only just updated my phone to android 4.3 (the kitkat update came out the next day, don't feel like downloading it yet lol) and my battery life has significantly reduced! Android System is using upto 85% of the battery.

What must I do? A lot of the posts here mention a reset and restore. How do I backup my files? And how do I restore them? Do you always have to do a reset before an update? What data do you lose when you do a reset?

Sorry for all these questions!

So, I've been playing The Room Two and have finished it just in time to plug the phone back in. A total of 3 hours and I was on the 4% battery level warning notification. I have noticed my phone drain like this with all 3D intensive games, but is this normal?

I'm having this problem as well and don't know how to fix it :( My phone just died at work and I've been here 7 1/2 hours. With working 12 hour shifts, this is extremely impractical. Before I updated to Kitkat, my phone would last about 13-14 hours before dying, depending on how much time I spent on it.

Admittedly, I got addicted to Candy Crush and played it for about 20 minutes on my lunch break, but I don't think that should reduce the battery life so drastically. It's so upsetting that this is happening.

Did you just update?

I am having the same issue - only bought the phone 2 days ago and it immediately upgraded to 4.4.2 while I was setting it up, initially i had the "wouldnt connect to wifi" problem, which was resolved with a factory reset (thanks to this forum for advice!). The battery is fine when the phone is idle - no drain. But the moment I start using the phone, it drops 1% of battery every 5 mins or so - as I am new to the phone, I don't know if this is this normal for the HTC One (bloody hope not!), but I would use no more than 5% per hour using my Samsung S3 for simple things like browsing, so it suggest to me that something is up - plus power useage shows Android System responsible for around 80% of power useage?

I've got power saver on, been through all the settings to reduce battery consumption such as screen brightness (set to very low), sorted out my auto-sync to bare minimum and switched it off for many things, Location off. I've tried all the suggestions I've seen on this forum. I can see lots of people on various devices using Kitkat are having this problem. Have tried resetting the phone again, but hasnt had any effect. I love the phone, but would like to get this sorted asap. Can anyone help?

The battery life is great on the HTC one, unfortunately the apps drain around 10% if used for 15 minutes. If I didn't play Candy Crush, I would probably be at 50% battery life and the phone hasn't had a charge in roughly 16 hours.

I can't believe my phone will be a year old in 3 months. Wow.

Hello everyone. Are any apps that protect battery life better than the others for the HTC One?

There is no spoon.

Do you really need to keep wifi on for 12.5 hours since your screen time is only 2.26 hours?

I understand if you want to keep up in sync with everything or whatever but fwiw I have at this moment almost exactly the same stats as you with the difference that my wifi was on for 4 hours, and now I am at 62% and I plugged out 19 hours ago.

Have had this phone now since Friday, so 6 days, and running 4.3 (previously had a HTC One on 4.4 for a couple of days before I took it back to the store to exchange as Kitkat was draining the battery far too fast), have to say the battery life is better. Thanks to all suggestions on here, I have Power Saving on always, and Location and a few other Google settings switched off. Screen set to low (like 30%, is still plenty bright enough). Was worried that Android system is using up all my battery as is typically at 80% in Power Useage, but if I use the phone to make calls then it drops to around 40% and HTC Dialler comes up to 40%, so think this is just what people are saying - the more you use your phone, the lower the % taken by Android system in Power Usage will be. I charge my phone overnight, take it off charge at 7am, have it sitting on my desk connected to 4G and Auto Synch on, but emails and other notifactions set to hourly intervals, I use the phone lightly during the day mainly for texting, bit of Whatsapp, bit of browsing at lunch time, prob get home around 6.30pm and I still have about 85-90% battery left, then use my phone moderately until say 11pm, for browing, Facebook, Twitter, texting, by which time I am down to 50-60% depending on how much I have used it. Yesterday I was using it fairly constantly from 6.30 - 11pm, also playing with the HTC One TV app, and using my phone as a remote control too. Last night, I put it back in the charging dock at 11.15pm with 50% of battery remaining, so I'm happy with just over 16hrs of light to moderate use at 50% battery. To compare, on a similar day, my old S3 would have been down to about 20-30%.

The battery is a disaster. Yesterday i turned off my HTC at 100%. When i wake up at 7 and turned on Phone it was 84%.how in the world it could lost 16% being off? Phone is damn good but baterry is ****. I bought HTC one last Sunday and I'm decided to sell it.

I'm frustrated with this battery as well. I had a Thunderbolt and added a large battery to it and could get up at 6 am and go to bed at 10 and still have 20 - 30% left. So when this was at 7% by 5:30pm I wasn't happy. However, because I was in a rush to get this phone, we powered it up in the store and I began using it and loading it up right away with only 30% battery out of the box so I may have caused myself a problem to begin with. Nevertheless, I followed this advice this morning and got very good battery life today. I'm at 7.5 hours and have 66% left right now.

1. I turned off AutoSync and just do it myself when I need it to sync.
2. I turned off Google One since I really got that information from other places.
3. I switched from Global network to LTE/CDMA although not what that did if anything, calls are the same.
4. I took the steps below that I found on a different site posted on 2/13/14. I actually DIDN"T charge it for 8 hours, I had charged it until the light was green and unplugged it at 5am.,, then followed advice below:

(No Root) Physical Battery Calibration

Turn your phone on and charge it for 8 hours or more.
Unplug the charger.
Turn your phone off and charge it for one hour.
Unplug the charger.
Turn on the phone and wait 2 minutes.
Turn your phone off and charge it for one hour.
Unplug, turn it on and use as normal. Your battery life should now be a lot better.

Here's something else the guy recommended in his post, but I didn't try it yet:
Also, I tried something that seems strange, for which I have no explanation, I turned on "Airplane mode" as the default mode of operation. I had already turned off GPS, Bluetooth and all the other things that are supposed to be turned off by enabling "Airplane mode." However, after I set it as the default status I noticed a remarkable increase in battery time. I don't mind the little plane in the corner and just turn on manually whatever I need, never disabling "Airplaine mode."

GOOD LUCK ALL

UPDATE: 3-13-14 (9:20PM) Just did a sync-all, played Tune-In Radio for about 30 minutes and checked my battery and I'm at 46% left after running for 10.5 hours!
