HTC One (M8): Bugs and Defects

Re: HTC One (M8) Bugs and Defects

I found a fix for the same issue I was experiencing. I had Password Box installed on mine with One-Click on. When I uninstalled the app the camera worked perfectly.

Re: HTC One (M8) Bugs and Defects

Mine is especially inclined to switch itself on in (or out of) a pouch case after I have deliberately selected 'Power Off' because OFF is a contractual requirement of my job. It is rigorously enforced for security purposes.
Because I know it sometimes switches itself on I've enabled 'Do Not Disturb'.
If/when the phone switches itself on in my pocket. The first thing to come up on screen is a rather confusing warning that you have 'Do Not Disturb' mode enabled and offering, with a single tap, to disable it. This sits proudly ABOVE the dots to enable pattern unlock, and so with a single inadvertent movement the phone could then un-mute itself as well.
Because this could lose me my job, I also enable airplane mode to stop any messages or call events from triggering the phone making a sound and announcing its presence to the world.
I've tried scheduling the Do Not Disturb timer too but the phone still switches itself on and the single tap message to switch off the 'Do Not Disturb' mode still sits above the pattern unlock.
It really should not be THIS hard to get the phone to JUST SHUT UP to prevent it getting me the sack.

FWIW I tried 'Silent' mode and disabling motion launch. Neither of them solved the problem.

i dont know what is wrong with my htc m8, it seems to experience slight lag for not even a half second but its really annoying, when playing cookie run and subway surfer, i have tested with other games with no problem, tried closing all running background apps already, optimized its cpu usage, still no difference, i have even tried to lower the settings on cookie run, but still no changes, my ram usage is lower than half but still....

That's obviously an app issue and has nothing to do with your device.

Only thing that's really bothering me Is I can't send and receive pictures I'm using T-Mobile on AT&T M8 and I have all settings correct but I still can't send and receive mms .

I watched a review on YT, by Erica Griffin, and she had 2 m8s. She did some color tests and found the color gamut to be slightly different between the two otherwise identical devices...

My m8 will restart randomly. It usually restarts when I am using an app, but it has restarted when I was on a phone call, on the home screen, and a couple of times it restarted while charging. The phone does not feel overheated. The restart is truely random. It can go a week without restarting, but sometimes will restart several times in a row.

What pouch/holster are you using?

Re: HTC One (M8) Bugs and Defects

i don't have to with mine. It can be on the table laying flat and the double tap still works for me

I haven't seen any of the issues you guys are reporting but I do run into two problems:

1) People seem to not be able to hear me very well when talking on the phone regularly. It happens primarily outside but the same walk I do everyday with my S3 works fine so I'm curious if it's a problem with the mic on my phone or what's going on... I can hear them fine but they usually struggle unless I tilt the phone and put the bottom near my mouth when talking....

2) Weird head phone issue. One pair of headphones I use for my ipod and s3 and laptop works perfectly but when I plug into the htc one i only get output out one headphone speaker. Before when I restarted teh phone that would fix it but lately after a restart, I'll play something and i get audio out both for a second and then it switches to one. But I have tried other head phones on my htc one like my Bose and they work fine.... something wrong with the input on htc phone or something kind of wonky with the headphone jack on the headphones.....

Any ideas? Thanks!

I have the very same 2 issues. Only one ear working with headphone jack and microphone has stopped working.
Good phone but there seems to be a major problem with the microphone and headphone jack.
Really disappointing as my phone is only about 6 weeks old and I have taken good care of it.

I have my M8 on T-Mobile, so I have some specific bugs for them in my list:

1 - The swipe down for quick call will not work when you are using wifi calling
2 - You are unable to send MMS messages when using wifi calling unless you are using the built in messaging app
3 - Maybe not a bug or defect, but you cannot change the HTC car app to a 3rd party one. There are no defaults to clear to make the phone ask you which app to use
4 - This is more of a kitkat issue, but you are unable to copy from internal memory to the SD card. I believe Samsung has provided a built-in file manager that can get around this, but with the M8 you can only accomplish by hooking up the phone to a computer and transferring that way.

Other than those small annoyances, the phone has exceeded my expectations in every way. It is by far the best phone I have laid my hands on.

Bluetooth is terrible. It seems after a few disconnects from a device it doesn't connect anymore. I've noticed this with my smart watch and radio. I'm on Verizon with custom ROM with latest radios and firmware

Not sure if these are bugs but ill post.

Every dayI turn the sound volume to silent and the next day its back up loud and vibrating on my desk at work. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

Also the App Pod Kicker Pro struggles to refresh in a timely manner.

Today, my girlfriend's camera app decided to stop working. She opens it up and it shows a black screen, then shuts off a few seconds later. She doesn't have Lastpass on it and I can't seem to find anything else on what to do to fix it. Tried power cycling it a couple of times and then I tried force closing the app and restarting it. Any ideas on what could be causing the issue? It was working fine this morning.

So I just got the HTC m8 yesterday and i am from India..
Now there is consistent static/buzzing noise in calls, when playing music and the top speaker definitely is the culprit..
Whats worse its when playing music through headphones..
Any one faced similar issues ? Is there a fix or i need to go for a replacement ?

Also not to forget the volume button is loose which i understand is a common issue but that is something i can still live with ..

Re: HTC One (M8) Bugs and Defects

People are complaining of really bad crackling when on the phone to me, this is not at all times, short calls are ok, it's during calls of a few minutes or more where it gets really bad. The problem is resolved by using a bluetooth earpiece so it is not a network fault but sounds more like a microphone fault. Anybody else suffered this issue?

My Verizon M8 is rock solid. The one really annoying bug I've found is that I can't stream audio over Bluetooth when I have an SD card installed. It will stream fine for a while and then disconnect. It could be an issue with the stereo in my Prius, but I've streamed successfully from an iPhone 5s and HTC One M7 with no problems. I've tried reformatting the card and even storing my audio in the phone's storage with the SD card installed, but no dice. I've heard this may be a 4.4.2 issue and hope these Bluetooth issues will be resolved in the next big system update.

The only problem I found was when unlocking the phone, it'll either show the pad lock go fast as hell or a little slow. Then goes into my pattern unlock, I think it's an animation thing tho

I've had my M8 HKE for about a month, on Sprint. While connected to a 4G/Spark network, it works great. Transitioning from 3G to 4G is a nightmare though. Since Sprint sent an OTA patch last week, every call I've made or taken drops within a minute, text messages take forever to go through, and internet is a crapshoot.

Things I've tried:
  • Switching data mode from CDMA/LTE to Automatic
  • Changing the sleep mode in Power Settings
  • Switching it from Automatic back to CDMA only

Before the patch, the network connectivity was actually pretty bad ***.. I switched from an iPhone 4S to this phone.. and while I love the phone itself, the network connectivity has been horrible. I've been a customer from Sprint for the last 10+ years, but because I'm over the 14 day limit, I can't swap or exchange my phone for another make or model without paying through the nose.
