HTC One (M8) camera discussion

Also, the Flash on Samsung Phones are one of the best features of their camera phones. It's noticeably better than Apple and many other Android OEM's devices.

I have the 5s and the Note3, and without a doubt the Note3 is MUCH better. I would like to see a comparison between the new One's camera and Note3.

Those images look good to me. There goes all the 'doom and gloom' about the camera to me.

Nice pics.

According to Verge camera is better even on N5.....GN3 and S5 are miles ahead

guess I'm out of luck, since I think the cameras on my old Note 2 and current Note 3 both suck big time for indoor shots without flash? :(

Re: Share your HTC One (M8) photos, videos, and camera thoughts!

I was prepared to buy one today off contract had the camera been an improvement. I had the original one and loved it, but the camera took very bad pictures with any zoom, and limited internal space made me go with a diff phone. With the sd card on the new one, plus the improved speakers I was ready to plop down and pay full price. That camera just kills it. I am bored on an iPhone 5 64 gb, and was hoping this would be the replacement, guess not, damn!

In the Camera Comparison linked above the M8 did well in the low light test.

Picking on the fact that the Note 3 or S4 is worse in Low Light will not make the camera any better than it is, which is to say not great unless you're rigging the conditions to heavily favor its optics.

In almost every other situation, including when a flash is used, the Samsung devices trample HTC's cameras.

The phone arena comparison had the M8 doing well in low light and indoor vs the others...

Re: Share your HTC One (M8) photos, videos, and camera thoughts!

Wow, I think I must be the only one not concerned with the camera. I have seen a lot of online leaks, about the camera. In all of them, I believe all of the leakers were astounded by the camera quality. Anyways, I use my camera occasionally and I have never felt the HTC One was lacking, in any photo. I never had the lighting issue either. The M8 will be better.

Besides, if you want my honest opinion, HTC wants to be the leader in innovations, and won't like to deny the ultra pixel experience was bad. Most importantly, companies have to give and take on phone build and features. Correct, and keep the camera piwer relatively the same = save money. This, in return, will allow the money to be used for different parts of the phone. As any business insider will tell you, "Follow the money".

Pictures posted in the reviews **** all over what my Ultra is capable of. It's going to be a huge improvement for me

I looked at Phonearena review and I have to say that is the worst review I have ever seen. They tried there best to make the HTC One look bad, taking pictures with the One at different angles, different depths and different lighting than some of the other phones. I am not saying that they are the best but my eyes saw something far different than what they were saying in that review. I think it is far better than last years model and have no problem with getting it. Also I don't think I saw one picture from the One that was blurry or out of focus but every other phone had at least 1 or more out of focus shots except maybe the Iphone.

Htc could could have easily stole Samsungs thunder and brought there company out of financial distress if they would put an awesome 13 to 20 mp camera on this phone. I loved the htc one everything about it but its lackluster camera made me trade it for an S4. If htc would have put the s4 camera in there phone they would have had the total package! I suppose ill look at LG touch wiz to slow s5 ugly errrr frustrated .....

I have a multitude of friends and coworkers with with the M7 and no one has ever spoken poorly about the camera. If the M8 is marginally better, it will be fine.

Re: HTC One M8 Camera

All the reviews are saying the pictures suck, but there's really nothing wrong with the quality of most of the pictures they upload in said reviews. Sure, they're not as sharp as a higher mp camera would be, but they look pretty good other than that. Pretty good is all most people need for sharing on Facebook, etc... I have my DSLR for any serious shooting.

I agree. Looking at the photos, they seem good to me and better than last year's One. I have had pretty much every phone released in the last year and I think I'll be able to deal with this quality. I'll be buying the S5 when it comes out and then decide which phone I'll keep for a few months.

Re: Share your HTC One (M8) photos, videos, and camera thoughts!

That's what people said about Moto X, most pictures look decent on 5 inch screen but once you view them on PC monitor you can clearly see the shortfall. And yes if you try hard you can make all shots look great but it doesn't work in "point and shoot" mode

Shifted posts around a bit, all is good...

Yep. I was very happy with the photos I got from the M7, and it looks like the M8 is an improvement. The detail in these shots is good enough for what I take with my phone, though it may be more of a deterrent to anyone who relies on (or expects more from) their phone's camera than I do. Part of that is having a DSLR handy.

Re: Share your HTC One (M8) photos, videos, and camera thoughts!

Good, I love all this camera backlash. I know next year that when my contract gets renewed I can buy the M9 (assuming HTC doesn't die) and it will have a high MP camera.

I think HTC was betting on their 5MP front facing camera to be helping their case, but no one likes selfies damn it!

I thought this phone might be the one I gave up my DNA for. The camera is a deal breaker. Looks like the old DNA will be my daily driver for a little while longer.

I don't care what kind of phone you have, that's not how I judge someone's worth or intelligence.

How do you account for every single review, including this site, pointing out exactly the same thing, that the camera suffers from a lack of detail and sharpness? are AC, BGR, cnet, gizmodo, the verge etc, many of whom call the one the best phone, all biased?

I would recommend people check out Colby Brown's review of this phone. He's had it for a couple of months traveling around the world as a professional photographer, and though seemingly non-technical, his impressions of the phone's dynamic range capabilities and depth of field are generally pretty positive

Gear Review: A Photographers Take on The HTC One M8 (2014) | Colby Brown Photography

MONEY QUOTE: "The trade off in going with this route was that images where only 4 megapixels in resolution, which meant that while they generally looked good on the phone and even when sharing to Facebook, the moment you tried to crop into an image, the details of your photo began to degrade. If HTC was able to use a 8mp or 16mp image sensor with the same technology, it would hypothetically be able to both capture more light as well as give you the ability to to crop your images without loosing vital details. While most of my mobile images purely live in the social media world that easily exists within the 4mp resolution of the Ultra Pixel sensor, I did miss having a little extra resolution that most other mobile phones offer."
