HTC One (M8): Camera Lens Issue

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Random question.. Is my warranty voided if my phone is S-offed? I never used HTC DEV. Device was already bootloader and gsm unlocked. I bought the DEv edition. HTC said I voided my warranty and tried to charge me 290 for a repair!!!!!!!!

Edit: S-off don't matter. They said it was a mistake.. They're swapping my phone.

For Anybody with a scratch on your camera lens "camera phone or camera" this little experiement just saved me. Wanted to write it up and share: You will THANK ME for this. I fixed mine in 5 mins. Use a clean microfiber towel, rubbing compound and liquid wax. First apply a drop off compound on the len itself and while using the same spot on the microfiber towel, wipe for about a min in circles and along the edges. Then use a clean section of the towel to wipe off residue. To add a bit of UV protection I followed up with Liquid wax. Follow the same process above and your goood to go. PS: it will help your screen protector like it did on my outer box as well ;). Now go enjoy those amazing photos

PS: I used Megiuars Ultimate compound and Megiuars Liquid Gold wax. Same stuff I use on my car :)

yup, I used Meguiares scratch remover, followed by Meguiares NXT wax

yes, warranty is voided by unlocking bootloader and/or s-off.......

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

My device is S-off. I thought using a token from HTC dev would void warranty. They said that was the reason but The loader was factory unlocked so they said Im still covered and device is on repair status I see..

Btw if anyone here had their phone swapped, did you get the same model and color back? Talked to a rep today He said theyd send me the same model but if they dont have the gunmetal color in stock theyd send a diff one. Man thats no goood Im afraid I might get a peach colored M8.

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

If I was sent a replacement of a different color, I'd send it right back and raise heck about it. It's bad enough manufacturers replace broken phones with used ones (I hesitate to call them refurbished because they too often have problems right out of the box too). I bought a red one because I wanted red. Why should I be expected to be ok with a different color?

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

My issue is slightly different. While I see see the "scratches" and marks, I can certainly tell there is a film on top of the lense cover that could probably be removed. When I get the guts to do it, i'll rub it off with a swab and alcohol.

But the weird thing is that it appears that there is a "wet" ring under the lenses cover that looks like some water or some liquid is trapped under the cover and lodged there. But it's not liquid, the camera works fine, and it's not generating condensation in there.

Does that description make any sense to anyone?

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Alright so I had the problem and I've and had my phone swapped by HTC and I've been using this phone since about May 30th. The problem is happening again with the front camera I think. I'm not for sure yet but it seems to be starting. I decided to come back and let you guys know. Guess I'm gonna have to try to switch the phone out again if it gets worse. So far the back camera is still good. If it does happen again I will force HTC to waive the shipping fee. I can't believe they haven't solved this issue yet.

Why don't you just clean it off? Many in this thread have done it.

Why risk it? Besides it was there for a reason. And actually it looks more like scratches than a coating smear.

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Just sent my device into HTC for the same issue. Let's see how it comes back, and how long whatever fix they make lasts.

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Update:

Got my phone in the mail last night. The total time from when I dropped it off to UPS to me getting the phone back was one week. I even got a follow-up call from HTC this morning asking if everything worked out okay. Overall I'm very impressed.

It looks like they replaced the entire unibody. The AT&T silkscreen was starting to wear off on mine when I sent it in. When I got the phone back it looked brand new. The serial# is the same so I know they didn't swap the phone altogether. I'll check the IMEI against the retail box but I'm sure it will be the same.

Also, it came back in this adorable box.

They may look like scratches but it is in fact the coating rubbing off. The actual lens may be plastic but it doesn't scratch that easily. But still, I feel like it's worth getting replaced.

Yeah I guess I may end up replacing it again.

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

After reading this I went looking to see if I had any alcohol around. Nope, but I had some of the Purell hand sanitizer. I figured its 70% alcohol and doesn't appear to have anything abrasive in it so I gave it a go. It had the film off in less then five minutes. I didn't push hard at all just rubbed a q-tip dipped in it around the lens for a couple minutes and now its all clear.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Do any of you that are having this issue do anything on your phone that would make it very hot (like 3d gaming)? With seemingly so many people having this issue in curious as to why some are constantly plagued by this whole others have not seen it at all. I personally have had two m8 due to a wireless issue on the first and neither have had any indication of this problem.

Because of overheating I went for a replacement instead of repair. My phone would go magma when watching youtube or gaming. Oh and dont even try Youtube while charing it.. I'd get the blinking red led. It was totally messed cause the phone would show 50% then to 20% and it suddenly shuts down. Something I hate is how they tell me Im getting it on thursday and the site does not ever update the status. I seriously chatted with them nearly every single day. Turns out they did not have more Gunmetal Dev Ed in stock so they offered me a carrier version. I said just give me the tmobile gunmetal and got it next day morning with UPS air shipping.

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

I believe i have a solution.

My One m8 had the same issue, and with it possibly being plastic i thought to myself. I collect wrist watches as well, and on older watches that have acrylic crystals (plastic lenses) i use a product called polywatch. It is a polishing compound. One dab on the htc one m8 lense and some light pressure with a micro fiber cloth in a circular motion, and bam, not one scratch!! Looks brand new.

I would suggest trying this stuff, it's 10$ on ebay and the tube is enough to last for years.

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Good afternoon. My htc one m8 was equal.
But I saw this video on youtube and results.
I bought Metal Polish and tested, now I have the glass clean and camera ready for pictures.

HTC one m8 is the best...
