HTC One (M8): Camera Lens Issue

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Hi, I'm back. I had the same problem with mine. Sent my phone in, they replaced the whole back, which includes the lens, and the new one did the same thing a month later. Don't waste your time without your phone, just fix it. Here is how I did it:

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

I've cleaned up more of my lens using 91% isopropy and a q-tip. Pictures looks great again. The M8 I have now is actually a CLNR, since my first M8 had a couple defects. Pretty much had it since the M8 came out for VZW, and only a few weeks ago, the coating became an issue. I hope HTC's quality isn't slipping. Although, between the two M7s I have, neither one of them has the purple camera issue.

Don't try this, it's known not to work for everyone, myself included....I had my lens repaired through HTC and it's not having the issue....the lens flaring issue is real when you remove the film... Camera lenses do get scratched and I wouldn't send my phone away again unless the problem was obscuring my pictures...

Come on, now you're telling someone who says they not already did the fix, but that it was a complete success and they're taking great photos again that they were wrong to do that?

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

I've just been in touch with HTC in UK and the heating problem someone suggested makes sense...still not great but considering I was out all weekend on a stag party my phone probably did get a bit hot ive contacted htc and it is going off for repair tmrw so hopefully it'll be done next week as I'll be phoneless and using iPad...I know I'll be kicking off if they try n charge me this has been such a let down on an already weak area of the phone (yes photos are OK with quick shots but most phones beat it) that I'm considering jumping ship tbh dunno yet coz I love the phone but can't be doing with this happening regularly

Here is a random picture after cleaning the lens.

Looks good but I shouldn't have to resort to alcohol cleaning etc after 2 months n mine feels like it's inside not outside too tried scrubbing with baby wipes to no avail....

I wouldn't use baby wipes, since they usually contain other things, such as moisturizer. I agree this shouldn't be necessary, but it's a free fix that takes only 5 minutes.

Well think I'll send it off then consider my options don't wanna be sending it off using potentially abrasive cleaners on a regular basis

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

I have this problem (with a day-1 Verizon model) which just became apparent in the last couple of weeks. Since I knew I was within 3 weeks of the end of my HTC Advantage coverage, I went ahead and asked for the cross-ship swap. I used their online support chat, told them about the lens problem and how I wanted to handle it and that was it -- they agreed without further questions. Got an email to provide credit card # for the cross-ship and that should be it. Very efficient!

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

I was noticing a little bit of blurriness on my front facing camera a few months ago, so I just scratched off the film with my fingernail and side of a credit card. All was good back then. I didn't mess with the back facing camera since everything seemed ok.

In the past week, I noticed some of my pics with the main camera a little blurry, and when I looked at the glass, you could definitely see the film scratching off. Got some Colgate toothpaste and put it on a q-tip, rubbed the lens in a circular motion, and in about 2 mins, the film was gone. Pics are no longer blurry anymore! Really simple fix, and in my opinion, you should go this route if your film is scratching off and affecting your pictures.

Your new device will give you the same issue as the one you returned. The only way to solve it is taking off the film yourself which isn't hard at all.

That is exactly correct

Just not true,
i do not have the same issue with my new device. How can you speak on something you know nothing about. Did you replace your phone with the updated lens or are you going off of something someone else has said in these posts..

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Yes, the toothpaste worked for me too. Now pictures are crisp as before. Thanks.

I'm on my second device returned the first one for Bluetooth issues and yes it had the lens issue which I fixed. The second device also developed the lens issue a few weeks after receiving it and I fixed it. Don't A$$ U ME about what others know. Replacing a device for this issue is simply a waste of time and money that's a fact not opinion but fact.

Actually, i was freaking out about tampering with mine the first time it happened so in sent it in and after a lot of talking on the phone and tweeting they finally replaced my lens cover (battery cover). A mere 3 weeks later the same thing happened. So in my case I would not even consider sending my phone in a second time. Its only a matter of time before it shows up I guess.. Maybe hot, humid climates are key..

What makes you think HTC has an updated lens that they replaced it with. If you have evidence then by all means let us know and perhaps sending it in could become a viable option. But if they don't have an updated lens where they've removed or improved the film, it will indeed happen again given time.
