Okay guys. Thank me later. Don't use toothpaste. Use a magic eraser sponge with a bit of water. Lens will be fixed in about one minute.

I wouldn't call removing a coating that is already falling off defacing or modifying. While I wouldn't call it a true "fix" because the coating is not restored, five minutes for a free "fix" is certainly less of a hassle than returning the phone for something many may consider minor.
And, I respectfully choose to disagree. The fix is inconsistent. i tried it and it did not work for me. I rubbed for 20 minutes. I'm not the only one with this experience. There are others who've tried the fix and made matters worse just as i did. And, I'm not convinced that the material many of you have removed doesn't affect the cameras ability to manage lens flare. I have yet to see after pics in comparison with non defective pics in similar lighting situations. Until i see those comparisons, i do not believe an inconsistent fix which does deface the original manufacturers hardware set up is a better option than sending the phone back to the manufacturer. And, If the manufacturer doesn't fix these issues in a timely fashion nor in future upgrades of the device, then i have the option to go buy a better phone with fewer issues, which is exactly what i plan to do. I will sell my HTC M8, get top dollar and go buy a damn Iphone or something. And, please stop telling me ALL you have to do is use some alcohol and a q tip and the phone is fine. HAVE YOU SEEN HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE CHIMED IN ON THIS ISSUE just on this cite? It was the same darn issue with the M7 camera except there was no handy fix for the purple tinting. I love my M8 just as much as the next person, you can follow my posts and see that for yourself. But, HTC cheaps out their phones in areas that make no sense whatsoever? And, I'm frustrated with that. I'd buy an Iphone just because i know they make damn near the best camera you can get on a COOL looking phone. I don't want a Lumia which is just a camera that does cell phone. I want a cell phone that does good camera. I'm just getting tired of HTC and their camera crap. And, i have patronized them enough that i can say that without being a troll. They do not use sapphire lens covers. It's called particle glass. You can fact check that if you'd like. I'm giving them one more chance with their next phone and I'm not buying it right away as i usually do. i'm gonna wait for the fallout this time and then make my choice.
I still count only a couple of people including you who weren't able to get the fix to work for them. Everyone else has had enormous success and reported that the camera functions like new again. You can say removing the coating has a negative affect on the quality all you want, but nearly nobody who's actually done it has been saying anything but "Works like new".
I used alcohol and qtip and all is well. No issues with pictures.

You know they don't fix anything but will send you another device? HTC hasn't aknowledged any issues with the lens therefore you'll be back to square one. A qtip and alcohol are your best friend.I get my baby back soon htc emailed saying it had been repaired and will be back beginning of next week I cant wait hopefully they've done something n it will last a bit longer now.....
Those magic erasers clean anything!

Maybe that 13MP camera in the One Eye will be in the One M9.Those pictures look good! But, I'm still on the proverbial fence with HTC! And, here they come with yet another phone, the HTC One EYE! I tell you, HTC has some serious ADD issues, they just can't freaking focus! I'm almost getting the feeling like the flame has it's brightest flicker right before it dies out! That's HTC just throwing anything up on the wall and hoping it will stick! Either you're going to make a true upgrade to the M8 or you're not.. they are feeling the pressure of the camera guffaw on their past 2 phones. I'm just frustrated with them....

They've cleaned everything I've tried and then some. Though I haven't had the need to clean my film (yet?), so haven't tried that one on my phone.
