This phone does not look, feel or in any way, shape or form fit under the description of "cheap." It's up and away the nicest phone I've ever owned or even seen. No scratches at all for me.

The back of my phone is looking new as well and I rarely have a case on it - only when biking. However; I did crack the lens cover on the camera!!!

I used to remove my case every other day to clean it out. This was more of an issue for me due to the field I work in.I do this because things getting in the case and scratch the phone up. I had it happen a few times. I found fix for it by using a body wrap and then putting the case on. You can get them pretty cheap online. More money I guess.. I need it to be in good shape to sale it. I like to get a new phone every 6 months to make my geek side happy.

I don't think I'd call the aluminum they use soft, but it's not the hardest. It's kind of in between and depends on the material and force that will scratch against it. Mine has one small scratch on the upper right of the back, under the top line, but even then it's pretty near invisible unless you shine a light right at it and look from a certain angle, and it was already there when I got the phone. The brushed metal look on the gunmetal actually hides it a bit.

Hi, I have the exact same problem, had the silicone case on that came in the box with the phone. Occasionally took it off to clean it and then took it off to find the spots. I can't seem to get them off. Just wondering if you have?

Toughest phone I've ever had and I'm terribly rough on it. Even dropped it from a Robinson R22 ( helicopter) from bout 25 to hard dirt. Not a scratch.

I've dropped mine a total of two times caseless: once it slipping from my pocket in the car and landing almost below the car seat and the second it slipping from my pocket again, landing on tiling from at least 3 feet with the impact focused into the top right corner and having the phone slide a little on its metal back. The first time left a few scratches but the second left many small scratches, a lot of them focused around the top portion below the top antenna band and the rest near the lower antenna band. The good thing is that these scratches are likely from the lacquer finish HTC placed on the back of the M8 to prevent the actual metal from scratching too much (scuffs from the coating are usually a bit whitish and running a fingernail through them will let you feel the scratches, giving off the belief that there's a scratch which is deeper than it appears to) and thus relatively harder to see. However, once you hit soft lighting and really bright sunlight and there's only so much the brushed look of the aluminum can cover up.
Basically, the M8's aluminum unibody is NOWHERE near cheap but that doesn't make it scratch proof. As far as I know, the only way to remove the scratches is by buying a new metal back but that brings forth a somewhat risky process of having to disassemble my M8. Best solution is to probably just buy a good vinyl skin like the ones that Dbrand sells considering a whole kit is just $23 with standard shipping included in price (US).

One of the worst phones I've ever had, sure it looks and feels nice, the sound is fantastic, however a few things ruin it for me, previously I used a Xperia Z which was fine no major issues and looked the business, my upgrade was a choice between the Z3 or the M8, I chose much to my detriment the M8, after the simple and easy Xperia the M8 was a shock, very complicated in parts especially when transferring from internal storage to an SD card, also the sync manager does not work the phone connects then disconnects for no good reason, after a few months frustration I went back to the Sony, the M8 is gathering dust and will be making its way onto ebay in the next few days, in answer to the question though it is quite hard wearing provided its not used as a football, hope you went for a Sony much better choice and that's what I shall be sticking to in the future.
I had my one m8 covered in the dot view case every single day.I take it out once at 2-3 days to clean it and i noticed few white little things... I like to have things in good shape and i can't figure out what's wrong.Can i remove them? Or what can i do to stop them?
P.S I don't leave,work,go in dirty or full of dust places.
