HTC One = Total Fail?

Aluminum is more durable than plastic.

Actually, aluminum is a relatively soft and malleable metal, easily dented and scratched but not easily corroded. It doesn't have the rebounding qualities of plastic with its flexibility and ability to disperse shock. The aluminum vs plastic battle is an old one based purely on materialistic appearances and not functionality.

Depends on the hardness of the aluminum. What HTC uses is different than what Apple uses. Even then, plastic is still not going to be as durable as metal.

That depends on what the object is. An aluminum car rim would be far more durable than a plastic one. But on a phone the reverse is true because all you're going to be doing to compromise a phone is dropping it from around 4 feet. Plastic will absorb that better and will be less likely to retain ugly scratches.

If a removable battery was as big of a deal as some members in this thread claim, iPhone sales would be affected by it. They are not.

Yes they are. Of course they are. We don't know by how much because we don't have a control group. But some people will not buy a phone without a removable battery. Thus, sales are affected.

It sounds like you agree that in more than one way, HTC is the Android Apple. Only without the great camera.

Sales figures alone do in fact prove my claim. If people cared, the iPhone would have been a dud and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Oh dear. According to this anti-logic, in addition to nonremovable batteries, people also prefer small 4" screens, static wallpaper, no widget options, poor battery life, locked down ecosystems, the inability to download flash player, non-expandable storage, etc.

But what, pray tell, is the best selling Android phone right now? The Samsung S3 I believe. Which by the JHB3 anti-logic "proves" the inverse of what the iPhone sales "prove" relative to the above listed criteria including consumers' preference for a removable battery. This dichotomy reveals flawed logic at its most fundamental level. A simple syllogism will reflect...

Oh never mind. I give up. I already know what the response will be.

Well done you all prefer the S4 =-O =-O

Now if we all tell them they're right and stop replying maybe they'll all go back to their S4 forum.....;-)

Having had my One for a few days I can say it's a decent bit of kit.....it feels solid in the hand due to having the one piece aluminium body and no battery cover.

Because the S4 isn't out I can only compare to the SGS2, SGS3 and the Note 2 I've owned, all of which felt and looked like toys compared to the ONE.

The icons and built in SMS App on all previous models of Samsung look like they were designed by and for a 2 Year Old.

As has been said by many Samsung are trying to be like Apple but they're not, in fact the HTC One feels and looks more of a premium handset than any iPhone (of which I've owned them all apart from the first)

I won't compare to the SGS4 as it's not out and anyone that does is obviously a Samsung Fanboi.

I really like the S4 and the S3 before that but one of the things I don't like is the look of Touchwiz. I wish they would change the stock app icons. I also don't like the way the homescreen has the navigation dots just about the dock area. It takes up a lot of space. I almost always install Nova launcher but you loose a lot of the features when you do that. It would be nice if you could choose betwwen a stock look or touchwiz look and, still have all the features that's part of touchwiz.

If a removable battery was as big of a deal as some members in this thread claim, iPhone sales would be affected by it. They are not. There is plenty of data in sales figures alone to support the fact that customers plainly don't care.

Your condescension is neither appreciated nor appropriate, so stow it.

Your ignorance isn't appreciated either. If you are condescending to other people, don't be surprised when the treatment is returned. How do you know iPhone sales haven't been affected by the battery? I've read a ton of posts that people say that's the reason they don't want one.

I'm fine with you making assumptions and uneducated guesses, but don't tell people they're wrong because of your ASSumption. Unless there's actual data to back it up, it's a hypothesis. Not a fact. HUGE difference.

I don't like the small number of icons on the huge Note 2 screen. It seems silly to me. I've I installed Nova Launcher as a work around. But I haven't noticed any loss of features. Which ones will the Nova Launcher eliminate?

I didn't expect you to support the One.

Sent from my One X using Android Central Forums

I don't really support anything. I don't have a dog in the fight and won't be buying either the One or the S4. The only phone that makes me gnash my teeth is the iPhone (due to needless sterility and arbitrary restrictions of the OS, its feminine styling, as well as the pervasive ignorance of its users).

I could list my criticisms of the Samsung phones. I think the S3 is ugly, very slippery, and the hardware lacks a premium feel. But that's off topic. This is a thread dealing with criticisms of the One. That's why I bring up the battery and camera.

If somebody starts a thread about the drawbacks of the S3, I'll be happy to come in and throw some bombs at it.

That's the purpose of the forum. Discussion.

Actually, to those saying that most customers don't care about an SD card slot is wrong. There are VERY few that do care for a removeable battery, but an SD card slot is probably the #2 thing people dislike about iPhones. I work at RadioShack and pretty much sell phones all day. I ask for opinions on why people choose Android over iOS or iOS over Android. The #1 answer with Android over iOS is the bigger screen and #2 is SD card slot.

Removeable battery RARELY comes up in the discussion so it's safe to say consumers either don't care or don't even think about it. But fi you're going to make a phone without the option to remove/upgrade the battery then the battery better be damn good inside that phone.
