I have . HTC android for Sprint that I need switched to boost. I am haBing trouble rooting to unlock SIM. They say that it needs to b 're sku d does rooting skip that step? Can it be rooted if there is a balance owed to Sprint

It can be rooted at any time. Look on XDA Forums for a rooting method for the Sprint M8 running the version of Android you're running.

They don't have to give you the unlock code if it's not fully paid for, but most of the time they will. (And you don't have to root the phone to unlock the SIM, although HTC doesn't void the warranty for rooting - everyone else does.)
