HTC U11 or OnePlus 5?

should know dxomark is largely worthless

Agree and disagree here. DXO is the only objective analysis we have the capabilities of the equipment of a wide variety of devices. So far their ratings do generally match up to real world results - BUT they do not match up with what some, or even most people subjectively prefer and it does not take into account the various skill levels of all the wanna be photographers. Example, I absolutely suck at taking photos. Most of the phones at the top of DXO's list can compensate for how much I suck and still give a presentable photo, most of the ones at the bottom can't do that. That said, each are good and bad at various aspects of the scoring system, and if all you take are low light photos, that score isn't telling you, by itself, which camera is actually best with shutter speed, light, etc. The analysis is, but not just the score.

I already told you I don't care about the camera. If i want a great camera, I'll use a camera.

Anyone who DOES care about it and does research should know dxomark is largely worthless.

Better software? No, subjective.

Better battery life? Maybe... I'm currently at 56% remaining with 5 hours SOT, how about you?

Better speakers? Yup, the U11 has better speakers. I don't care though, or get why I should lol.

EDIT: Oh, what do you mean "who?" Do you not know what I mean by normals?

I'd need proof to believe that since unlike many here, I've had every flagships and my time with the op5 I never once saw a total of 6 hours SOT let alone 5 with 58% left like you are claiming.

If I'm honest, I'm skeptical it'll keep it up... But I can but hope!

I do also get 10hrs SOT but not sure why it does this. My phone usages are mostly same (daily routine). I currently have moto z play, iPhone 7 plus, Samsung S7, honor 8.

I rarely watch video stream or play games and I mostly text, use chrome, use forum app to read stuff and OP5 gives me like 9-10 SOT. 7 plus gives me like 7-8 SOT, S7 like 5-6 SOT, honor 8 6-7 SOT, Moto z play 10 SOT. My usages are very similar everyday except on the weekends. There is really no way OP5 is giving me this SOT. I guess if you are like me who doesn't stream or play games, snapdragon 835 is superb.

So you would rather have a iphone 7 plus clone, a worse camera that has been proven and tested.

Maybe I wasn't clear, so let me clarify, I don't give a single damn about a camera. I take maybe 1 or 2 pictures of month, and it's when something breaks and I need to inform the repair guy. Literally do not give a crap which phone has the better camera. Not a factor at all. Does that clear it up?

And yeah, a dark rectangular cell phone certainly is an iPhone clo.... Oh wait...

People will say anything to justify what "they want" I've been in this industry and garnered a few thousand subscribers on YouTube over a long time knowing what I'm talking about. People like him are those who set their mind on getting something even though it's arguably worse than other options out there for a few reasons. 1 they are Fanboys of said company. Or 2 , they made the purchase only later to be proven by reviewers that it's not as good as intended leaving the buyer with a sense of " I won't admit I made mistake and will defend my purchase till I die"

Fanboy? An HTC M7 was my first android, then had an M8 and then the 10 the moment the preorders went live. Then the 11 got rid of the metal body, which is why I liked them, got rid of the audio jack, which I use, and I didn't want a screen that was susceptible to polarization anymore. Not sure what part of "the HTC 11 does not fit my needs" you don't understand. Sure, the 11 is waterproof. That's the one thing I wish the OP5 had, not gonna deny.

According to reviews the 11 has a better camera. I'm not a photographer, i literally take no pictures. From what I can tell, the OP5 has no Dxomark score, and the 11 has a 90. Say when it gets rated, it gets an 85 or even 80 or worse. Once again, I DONT CARE. It literally does not affect me in any way whatsoever. It's like getting a car with snow tires when I live in the desert. It makes no difference.

And I'm not gonna defend it til I die. For all I know, the phone melts tomorrow and I will then think of it as sh_t. I will then consider all my options again. Maybe a Sony or the next LG (I'd have to research). For now, I still have my 10 as backup and plan to keep it until I'm 100% satisfied with my OP5 purchase (probably a month or so until i sell it).

So no, what I am is an informed consumer that knows what he wants and for now has found it in this phone. You seem to hate the OP5 and can't seem to get over that someone else may like it. That's your prerogative, but not everyone shares your views.

I guess you also don't mind than your screen has a jelly effect and that your speakers don't adjust to R and L depending on how you hold it? Easy to keep overlooking faults when your dead set on what you purchased.

In all of fairness though, if he does find faults, he could always take advantage of the return service.

I don't think he would be too annoyed though, given his preferences and usage pattern.

Hahaha, man, why are you taking this so personally? Why are you investing so much time into a device you apparently hate?

Personally, I'm not a fan of Oneplus, or any other company... They can suck a bag of assorted genitalia. I do like their phone, which is why I'm here. As for buyers remorse... Anyone feeling that can send the device back no questions asked within 15 days. And if they don't like it, they SHOULD do that.

I suspect you might be projecting lol.

And mate, no offence cause this is getting a bit personal, but building a couple of thousand subs on YouTube over a decade doesn't allow you to speak from a position of authority... It's not bad, you should be proud of yourself! But it doesn't make you Marques Brownlee. And even his sub level doesn't actually make him an authority, just popular.

Seems you just wanna attack and have everyone agree with you rather than actually discuss the pros and cons of each device, but it ain't gonna happen cause it isn't a bad device. Is it perfect? No, but nothing is.

Try to keep calm, if you have a U11, try giving it a few squeezes, they didn't include that stress ball functionality for nothing!

Actually, my screen doesn't have the jelly effect. At all. I've tried to replicate it. And yeah, maybe if it did, I would have returned it. Guess we'll never know.

Actually I didn't know (or notice) the speaker thing. I'll try it out and see if it annoys me.

Still, not sure how it's your problem that I'm enjoying my new phone. I guess it's sad that you didn't get to enjoy it , but it's time to move on. Let it go. Enjoy your 11 and we'll enjoy our OP5.

I actually started doing reviews long before any of these reviewers now a days. I gave up doing it as much as I could have when I landed an executive position with the US government and was advised I should not expose my private life on camera as much. No one is telling anyone NOT to enjoy their phone, merely that people should stop overlooking a phones flaws and making it out to be better than other devices when it clearly is not. I purchased a oneplus 5 with my own money. Have had every oneplus device minus the x. I wanted to love the phone but it's an utter failure in every sense of the word. They promote it as having a great camera, which is a lie and not even better than some of last year's devices. They take out OIS yet charge more than the 3T which had it. 4k video is useless without it. The design is s straight copy. The speaker issue is ridiculous. The screen jelly while not affecting everyone, is affecting many, including mine which I sent back. They keep raising the price and promoting it as a flagship killer when in fact it isn't better or even close to better than any of this year's flagships including the cheaper G6 which can be had for $499 or less anywhere.

The thing you seem to be having trouble with is that different people attribute value to different things.

You may have simply bought a camera when you bought the device, but I did not. I primarily bought a pocket computer.

Saying it's an utter failure in every way is frankly ridiculous. There is something we actually can agree on, though. While the camera is absolutely fine, it isn't at the level where they should be leaning on it so heavily in marketing. It takes good pictures, it is not a Pixel camera. I knew this going in, and don't care.

What speaker issue? I haven't heard of any...

You may think the G6 is better, but I do not, because i place value on different things than you do. Are you capable of understanding that? And $499 is not less than $479...

Also they haven't used the "flagship killer" tagline since 2015... It was a stupid piece of marketing bs, but it seems petty and pointless to criticise it two years down the line.

Guys life is too short! Just enjoy what you like! Both devices looking pretty good to me.

Mod note: let's keep the discussion civil and on topic. No need to discuss each other. Thank you!

dannyar11 I have to disagree. You never wanted that phone, let's face it. Not even talking about loving it. It shows in each and every posts here.
You keep on bringing the same things over and over again, never listening to the other posters...
The camera is not as great as people wanted it to be? Not everyone agrees it's such a bad camera. If you want to take pictures because it's your job, then get a real camera... Common people are very satisfied with the camera of the O+5. They don't shout they are happy with it as loud as you because they don't have to, it's not how forums work...
You keep on bringing the design to the table... Come on! Stop that! You didn't have to buy the O+5 if you didn't like it. Nobody put a gun to your head, right? We've had so many pictures of the O+5 before it was sold, so... Beside, I've read lots and lots of praise about the design of the Apple S7 that I find it cool that people are comparing the O+5 to that phone... And it's just a matter of taste. Design? Great!
There is a minority of people having the jelly problem. Some don't care, some even like it. The others can return the phone and exchange it or get a refund. Many phones have problems, not so many have been flamed that way...
Price? Once again, if you don't like it, if you can't buy it, then don't. Everything is getting more expensive as years... as months go by. I bought the first O+ years ago, €300. I bought the O+5 €559 but look at the evolution! Twice the memory size, a processor waaayy faster, faster RAM, better camera, ... The price doesn't surprise me.
And I could go on and on...
I love my O+5. I'm no OnePlus fanboy but I really do love their product. I still have my O+ and it's running like a kitten. I have also a ZTE A7 and I also love it. Now I use the O+5 and I'm still discovering stuffs as I play with it. I watch my colleagues with their Samsung and I smile when I see the lags on their display, the scratches everywhere, and more. But they seem happy with it. When they want to know what I'm using, they raise their eyebrows "OnePlus? What's that??"
