I would also order from Google since I know they will honor the warranty, regardless of if the phone is rooted or the bootloader unlocked.
Exactly.

Yup. Same boat. The tax is worth the peace of mind in getting to deal solely with Google. They have great customer service and easy returns/exchanges. I'd rather have that than the tax money back.I would also order from Google since I know they will honor the warranty, regardless of if the phone is rooted or the bootloader unlocked.
I might have to do this as it will save me from having to pay taxes. I assume you can buy the Nexus protect up to 30 days after you purchase the device. It should work like any other insurance company does (I think). The issue is I was thinking of going with the Frost one and possibly getting the 128GB model.
I ordered it from Huawei and I got charged for tax and I live in California

This would suprise me if they didn't let people add it. Being that the site wasn't even running for the most part when pre-orders were happening. It can only be purchased at the time of your nexus purchase and can only be purchased through the Google store.

5-7 day shipping from US not china. And sales tax is state not federal. You report on your state income tax return. No $50 Play credit, no Google device support, no option for Nexus Protect, slow ground 5-7 day shipping (from China).
None of that is worth saving a bit of sales tax...tax that you are required to report to the IRS at that....
Asurion is typically more expensive because they allow claims for lost and stolen devices. Is Nexus Protect better than Asurion?
I believe it was said and even that it's probably true right now, but they may do a 180 on this, considering the lack of info at the time or purchase and no warning that it was your last chance to do so.There was a post in one of these threads that said you had to purchase it at the same time you got the phone. It was taken from a Google sales rep chat. I'd advise anyone planning on buying them separately to check with Google before you commit.
