I bet Verizon put Carrier IQ on their version of the Galaxy Nexus

Re: I bet Verizon put Carrier IQ on their version of the Galaxy N

We already know they put bloatware on it. We already know they put they're logo on it. They have tainted the Nexus line in every way they know how, so I am willing to bet they put Carrier IQ on it.....Just saying

Erm. Someone's been hitting the pipe a little too hard lately.

Re: I bet Verizon put Carrier IQ on their version of the Galaxy N

There was a system dump of the Verizon version of the Nexus a while back. We knew it was the Verizon version because of MyVerizon.apk. There was no CarrierIQ stuff anywhere.

Again, Google is going to be handling the updates on this. They're not going to want to deal with CarrierIQ.

This has serious privacy implications, and although a Nexus escapes this the majority of phones do not. AC passed on this major story by their own admission (which disappoints me). This story is spreading like wildfire and we have not heard the end of it I am sure.

is Carrier IQ only on Verizon? what is it?

You guys see the headlines this morning? Looks like traces of it are in iOS. Story is still unfolding.

Imagine the nightmare for a company who up until now had been deployed in nearly every device. Now their product is the software equivalent of rat poison or corn syrup.

According to THIS thread if all posts are read, Verizon is the only carrier to respond to questions about using it, and they do not use it.

I had it on my HTC Hero on Sprint. I remember back then devs were curious as its intentions and almost all removed as much as possible (if not all) of it from ROMs. From what I hear, it was no easy feat back then.

CarrierIQ SchmarrierIQ...people should be much more concerned with what the Patriot Act does to cell phone privacy than CarrierIQ. And remember that Google is the new 'big brother' in the information age. If information is power, then Google holds most of the cards folks. Don't like it? Then get a couple cans and some string...the call quality isn't great, but it will guarantee your privacy. :p

Seriously, I see almost exclusively GN ads online... they know me better than my GF... who doesn't even know what a Nexus device is.

Correct me if I am wrong, but we know who Google is and what they do: The largest data miner company. That said, there is a big difference vs. Carrier IQ which basically installs a rootkit without disclosure and logs everything via a key logger.

Now the Government is involved: Forbes reporting that Senator Al Franken has written a letter to Carrier IQ.

Here's The Letter Senator Al Franken Just Sent To Phone 'Rootkit' Firm Carrier IQ - Forbes

I just can't take Franken seriously. Every time I see his photo, or hear him speak, I'm reminded of Stuart Smalley, lol...

As far as I know verizon doesn't use Carrier IQ on any of their devices, one of the few things verizon has done right recently (assuming they are telling the truth)

It has not been found on any devices, and Verizon flat out denied that it was on their devices. (as opposed to the other carriers and OEMs, which offered wishy-washy responses)

They may not use Carrier IQ specifically, but I would bet they are using some other similar service.
