I have the latest update for camera, which ends in version .98 (correct if I am wrong) and I am officially not satisfied.

I am convinced Samsung doesn't know how to handle their own sensor. The focus still sucks. Royally. It is better, but not acceptable when a phone that costs $500 less can do significantly better.

They have eroded their brand here for me. I will be returning this phone for either an S20+ (no focus issues) or a Pixel 4 (much more likely). Honestly, I was happier with the subpar camera on my One Plus 7 Pro. It could at least focus, and that makes video and pictures significantly different.

That's half the price by the way. HALF the price. Attached is what I'm getting. A video that doesn't focus on foreground. Notice how the background is focused. Took a screenshot of the occurrence. It wouldn't focus after 9 seconds of waiting. Awful and not acceptable. Screenshot_20200328-004415_Camera.jpeg

The shot above attached the wrong shot. I tried again after it didn't focus and that was the nine seconds posted belowScreenshot_20200328-005244_Camera.jpeg

I agree completely! My one year old S10+ focuses much, much better than my S20 Ultra. I believe that this all has to do with Samsung developing their own camera sensor for the S20 Ultra and for some unknown reason, decided to use phase detection rather than dual pixel for the autofocus. Phase detection autofocus is older, slower, and less reliable (especially in low light) compared to dual pixel autofocus. The S10s and the S20 and the S20+ all use a Sony camera sensor that has dual pixel autofocus.

I don't think Samsung can completely fix the focus issues on the Ultra to make it work as good as it does on my S10+ and as good as has been reported to work on the S20 and S20+.

I will be sending the Ultra back to Samsung and will order the S20+. I will certainly miss the longer optical zoom of the Ultra. But the S20+ has a longer optical zoom than the S10+ that I've used for over a year and it should have a much more reliable autofocus.

Honestly, I think the plus is best if the 3. Really pleased with mine. Camera is better than S10 and pretty decent.

It will be interesting when Samsung updates S10 and Note 10 to UI 2.1, because the only improvements I saw with S20 are software based

I too am looking forward to when my S10 will get the update to see how my camera fares and if it improves.

A lag in focus in an S20-series phone is very unfortunate.

To be clear...
Don't waste time or money and get the pixel if photo quality is paramount.

Me too. Keep checking every day to see if it has arrived. So far nothing. But Germany has had it rolled out already.

You're too close to the bottle. Big sensor means minimum focal distance is greater.

I didn't think it was too close. I have found that the phone just really likes to focus on things that are far away.

If I tapped the bottle, the bottle would come into perfect focus instantly, but the phone would not do it on its own.

Thank you for letting me know! I was going to start a thread asking if anyone anywhere has gotten the update for their S10 or Note 10! I am checking every day, obsessively! 🤣

So it appears that the latest camera update, version ending in .98, has a serious 60fps flaw.

While focus is better in pictures, the camera will NOT focus at all on 60fps video. I tried 30fps and auto focus is acceptable. On 60fps it will stay in whatever plane it first focused in and will not change on its own.

Fix some, broke others. I don't know how they are letting updates like these go through. Not sure what kind of testing process Samsung has but it is clearly failing.

I mentioned it just now elsewhere but I'll mention it here too... watching this video and at the 6:20min mark really hit home the issue...

Too much aperture for this sensor giving a super shallow depth of field where you can't get a whole mug into focus and probably the quirkly autofocus... it's probably jumping between one part of that mug to the other... and sensor lacking dual aperture.

SW updates will improve the autofocus... maybe it'll take a couple of updates if it hasn't been fixed in one??

But the real fix I believe now, after watching his comments... second gen Samsung 108mp sensor WITH dual aperture.
