I got the latest update for camera and and I am officially not satisfied

I agree my Ultra camera does not impress compared to my S10+.
Maybe the S10+ was such a great camera anyway.
My expectation was that after taking pictures you could zoom into detail better with the Ultra but doing side by side comparison there was hardly any difference.
I see that others are returning their Ultras and suspect I will too, sadly.

I have the March update but not the April

Got the new update Saturday morning through Sprint. Does improve the camera.

I got the same update, and don't see any difference. And I don't know why they are not giving any details with these updates. It just says security update. The new April update camera version is 10.0.02.7

So it appears that the latest camera update, version ending in .98, has a serious 60fps flaw.

While focus is better in pictures, the camera will NOT focus at all on 60fps video. I tried 30fps and auto focus is acceptable. On 60fps it will stay in whatever plane it first focused in and will not change on its own.

Fix some, broke others. I don't know how they are letting updates like these go through. Not sure what kind of testing process Samsung has but it is clearly failing.
I did not notice that issue before or after the update but I'll double check tomorrow.

I have yet to buy the Samsung Ultra and iam probably not going too now if iam honest. I have seen some terrible pics taken with the camera and the zoom is massively over rated given how Samsung have marketed it.

However. There are some people that are claiming they have no focus issues and they are very happy with the camera? Is it possible Samsung just released thousands of faulty units?

At this moment in time i would certainly not buy the Ultra anyway. Its essentially a downgrade over the s20+ and costs an extra few hundred. Makes no sense!

It could be the different ways people use their cameras and the type of shots they normally take... if you're taking static pictures all the time and zooming in on them, you may not see the focus hunting as much. But if you are a person always chasing your dog or kids for a clean shot then maybe those users can see the focusing issues mentioned. Same thing for the narrow plane of focus where one reviewer said you can't get a whole face in focus... could depend on the distance you normally take your shots, etc. It could be some just don't notice. Just like people that rave about the Pixels camera being a step above the rest or say as good as a DLSR... some people have probably ever played with a DSLR to notice or care.

Reviewers have never said the Ultra camera is bad or junk... it's just, except for the advantages you would get in a higher mp camera and improvements in stabilization and low light, it's not a huge leap over the S20+ or even the compared often the Note 10+.

Now that the camera updates are released, maybe Samsung will let DXOMark score their camera and see how it fares against the others tested. I mean... the new Huawei took top spot for best camera within days of announcing their new phone. DisplayMate announced the OnePlus screen the best smartphone display before the April 14th announce date.

It's makes no sense because the Ultra is not a downgrade from the Plus.

Tons of reviewers recommend the S20+ over the Ultra purely because its cheaper, does everything the Ultra does and has an arguably better camera. Only thing you lose is the 100x zoom .

Of course anyone that has the Ultra wants to justify there purchase but far too many people are unhappy with the camera and its simply not worth its price tag when theres a cheaper option available (s20+) thats arguably a better all round device.

Samsung mislead everyone with the marketing of the camera on the Ultra.

99% of people choosing the Ultra are doing so for the camera and the majority of users are clearly not happy with the camera!

Your information is mostly baseless speculation on your part.

Its kind of hard to make those statements when u seem to not own either phone. S20 ultra users dont need to justify their purchase because they had 14 days to return it and would have done so if they did not like it. Why would you keep a device that you're not happy with?

I got the Ultra for the bigger battery & more internal storage.

The camera didn't bother me before the update (I manually focus - takes 1 extra second to tap the screen) & the zoom up to 30x is decent (Samsung probably should have stopped there instead of marketing "Space Zoom").

Because they are praying an update will somehow fix the camera ? Look your right. I do not own either device. Correct. But its evident that tons of people are not happy with this device. Maybe they are returning it? How do you know people are not returning it?

Almost all reviewers recommend the plus version over the ultra. It clearly impresses more people then the Ultra does. I have not heard one single person say the Ultra is worth the extra money and that the camera lived up to expectations.

Iam not saying its a bad phone but its clearly over priced and Samsung mislead everyone with the marketing!

Genuine question. If someone is considering buying the plus or the ultra and the camera is just as good if not more reliable on the plus then on the ultra! What reasons would you give them to drop the extra cash on the ultra?

This is exactly where I am at.

I chose this over the regular S20 for the camera. I was 12 days into my 14 return policy when T-Mobile decided to shut down their stores.

I also didn't really care given that Samsung was going to push an update that would "fix" these issues.

As of now, I was mistaken. I really like the device overall, but given another shot, I would have either chosen the S10+ or Pixel 4 XL, and definitely not this ultra model.

I can't return it now, but if I had the chance, I would. I kept it past the 14 days due to the promise of an update, which did come through, but while it fixed some focus issues, it added other worse ones (specifically, now you can't auto focus *at all* on 60 fps video).

The focus in general for pictures is improved, but not to the level of the S20+ or even the last *two* generations of Galaxy Note.

Camera was over hyped for sure. I am hoping it will get better with software updates, but this was a VERY expensive phone, even above Apple's insane pricing models, to have this kind of performance on the one reason that the Ultra should be purchased (the camera).

I get that a lot of people are not happy with the device. I Also i see a lot of people are happy. Ive read many reviews where they're not happy with the plus or regular s20 also. Reviews are always subjective and you really can't make a comparison unless the device is in your hands and you get to test it for yourself. everyone uses their device differently or buys them for different reasons. to say that people who are defending the s 20 ultra are just justifying their purchase is not correct because like I said they can return the phone, and I am sure many of them did. the camera definitely should have been polished from the start I agree. I will say the first update greatly improved the autofocus and the thing I've noticed is this camera has a major learning curve. It's not your typical point and shoot camera. No it's not the greatest camera in the world and maybe it should have been with the way they marketed it . It does take some really great pics and videos though. If a camera is tops on your list when buying a cell phone then a Samsung is not the way to go to begin with because their cameras have never been the best. You're better off going to get a pixel or an iPhone if that's the case. For me I bought the phone because of the screen the specs and the battery. The camera was just a bonus. It does take excellent photos up to 30 x zoom but I agree to a hundred times zoom is just a gimmick in all not that great. Now maybe that's something they can fix with a software update I don't know. But it's nice to see them pushing all these camera updates and making it a priority. for me I got the phone I tried it out and after two weeks I trade in my pixel 4 XL to them I was happy with this phone. I have no regrets or no buyer's remorse. But we are all different what's good for me may not be good for someone else. as far as the phone being too expensive yes every phone it's too expensive nowadays. You could say the pixel is too expensive for what you get. I think the prices are only going to get worse from here on out. I'm sure the note 20 is not going to be any cheaper. so you just have to try out the phone that you want for 14 days and decide for yourself.

I don't what you mean by you can't autofocus at all with 60FPS. I just tested mine and it autofocuses perfectly. Autofocus tracking is not supported in the 60FPS modes if that's what you mean but I don't think that changed since the update.Screenshot_20200406-142755_Camera.jpeg

However. There are some people that are claiming they have no focus issues and they are very happy with the camera?

I am one of those people. I do have the Ultra 512 GB and got the ATCT update today. Spend one hour with video focus tests and do not see any problems described. Coming from a Note 10 I do like this camera much more, especially in low light. People forget the main camera has a much larger sensor and focuses differently.

With all that said I would have preferred the dual pixel auto-focus vs phase-detection auto-focus in the Ultra model since it is the more advanced technology but at least with my Ultra it seems the auto-focus is not a problem anymore after this update. Samsung will certainly keep doing fine turnings on the camera.

Just got my camera update and I couldn't be more impressed...

Just kidding....kinda. I bought the 3 XL until Samsung gets their act together with some of the issues I'm personally having with the performance of the camera in the situations I'm using it for (indoor, for constantly moving kid). For everything else, this phone is great =)

I dug my Pixel 3xl out of the drawer tonight and set it up again as I kinda missed it after getting the Ultra almost a month ago. Still like it but after a few seconds I soon remembered my biggest bug bear of it that drove me nuts... No one handed mode! It took me ages to get used to it not being in the Pixel and so glad to get it back on the Ultra. Then I did a few camera comparisons to see if the Ultra really was the let down I thought. Front camera is no contest and Pixel wins easily. Rear camera wasn't what I expected so much and the Ultra took mostly better/detailed shots except in those situations you mentioned and I do take a lot of pics if the kids, dog and indoors, oh and peoples faces too. When you factor in the zoom capabilities, camera app and extra modes etc I couldn't go back to the Pixel full time. Other reasons I couldn't go back now is the awful battery life and no dual Sim like the Ultra. Can't bring myself to part with the Pixel just yet though 😂

Oh, I'm not going anywhere. The 20U is my daily driver. The 3XL serves more like a camera with WiFi internet capabilities.
