I have a Nexus 4, you have questions. Fire away.

Phil, I have a nexus 4 question. Keyboard will not replace my words...like when i type "u" want it to autofill with you, like my last android. I installed firekeys, but when I text, in landscape (phone turned to side), it won't find my contacts. I need to first add the contact in horizontal, and then turn to landscape to type. very frustrating. appreciate your help so much.

Phil has long left the building and is off to bigger and better things. I can make a few suggestions regarding keyboards.

1. SwiftKey is by far the best keyboard available for predicting words. It just is smarter in my opinion. You can change your themes and also now get the Flow option which works similar to Swype which allows you to slide your finger over the keyboard. This is a paid app but worth every penny.

2. If you don't want to pay for SwiftKey then try out Kii keyboard. It's free and works very well. You can actually customize it more than any other keyboard on the market.

Is there any way to opt out of Google collecting all my user data?
... and possibly selling it possibly to third parties?

The information Google collects on you is anonymous. Their privacy policy is pretty clear. And quite often you are able to opt out of specific things.

If you choose to use their free services you have to give them something back.

If it really bothers you, I'd try a windows phone. Giving Google some user info is part of using all of Google's cool free stuff. The only way to avoid it is to stay off the internet. Even that wont really keep you anonymous...every where you go and everything you do is being tracked by traffic/security cameras anyway. People are even watching you right now through that little front facing camera on your phone and on your pc.

I'm thinking of getting a nexus 4(because its quite cheap)should I hod out until the price of the HTC one comes down?

That is a question only you can answer. A nexus 4 is different than the HTC One. If you are looking for a nexus then I would wait until Google IO is over. They are supposed to be announcing a updated Nexus 4 with more storage and possibly LTE. They did a similar thing with the Nexus 7. Price stayed the same.

The price of the HTC One will not come down too much and you will need to buy it on contract unless you want to spend some larger $.

I am currently an iPhone user (Have been since iPhone 1st launched). I am quite ingrained with IOS but I am seeking the ability to customize my phone to my liking, so I am looking at Android and in particular the Nexus 4. I understand that Google I/O is less then 2 weeks away and I may wait for it but not sure. I do have a few concerns about switching. I use my phone for e-mail, texting and streaming music/PodCasts/AudioBooks/MLB games in my car during my commute (1 1/2 hrs both ways) and at work. I get my music from Rhapsody, Pandora, Spotify and I Heart Radio. I subscribe to approx 15 different podcasts and listen to alot of audio books from Audible. My main concern is that Jelly Bean 4.2.2 is having issues with the Bluetooth stack.
If I can't listen to my phone in my car then that is a complete deal breaker! It is also my understanding that the Bluetooth stack in previous versions of Jelly Bean are stable and function as designed.
1. What version of Jelly Bean is installed on a new Nexus 4 (From Google) when it is shipped?
2. How difficult is it to move to a different version (Either forward or backward)?
3. If I install a different version or ROM out my Nexus 4 and decide to send it back, will this cause difficulty?
4. Which version of Jelly Bean has the most stable Bluetooth stack.

Thank you in advance for any and all assistance and I am looking forward to a pleasant Android experience.

Regards,
Brent

This is not directly a Nexus phone issue itself but I don't know where the issue belongs so ...I am replacing my Nexus 4 with a new one and wanted to do a back up. I downloaded MyBackUp Pro and did an online backup of contacts, sms, etc. When I try to restore the back up to my phone instead of the 95 contacts on have on the phone it places 1351 contacts which appears to be a huge amount of contacts under "Other Contacts" in my gmail account. How can I have only the original contacts in my original phone transferred and not all the rest?

Thanks

If it is just contacts, sync your contacts to google.. settings accounts google... tap your google account uncheck contacts, abd recheck so it so it syncs. Then on your new phone sync contacts again. If you already have all the random contacts, you may need to factory reset the new phone first and start again.

I believe it comes with jellybean 4.1
Upgrading is automatic, you will get a notification on your phone and it does the rest its self once you tap it. Downgrading back is easy, lots of how to's out there.
I have never had a bluetooth issue on my N4, niether on 4.1 or 4.2

The car thing is dependent on the car, many users have no problem, some do

Can I use nexus 4 I bought here in US on a 220 volt???

It says on the travel adapter100-240volt 50/60hz. I know it's within the range but is our advisable to use an adapter to preserve more the battery life.

Cause I remember using my laptop I bought here in the us on a 220 volt while attending college outside u.s, and I notice that it seems make my battery life lessen and charge poorly compare when I used it here. How the same principle is not applicable to nexus 4.

I I'm planning to give it as a gift for someone who lives outside the United states...

I think if you have an adapter it will work fine.

Try swiftkey or Kii keyboard. Both excellent and better predictive engine.

Downloaded the android assistant app the other day, was just wondering if there was any point of using these app killers and whether they actually make the phone better or worse?

Hi,

I have a question regarding the gesture typing on the nexus 4. I have went into settings and have checked off "enable gesture tgping" and yet, I still cannot gesture on the keyboard. Do I need to do something else in order for the gestures to work?

Thanks.
