I think those who had Note 7s should have 1st dibs for the Note 8 w/ their carriers

Re: So For All Those Contractually Locked In...

If you decide you want to get a Note 8, are you willing to buy it via cold sale (full retail value)? I'm personally locked into a 2 year contract with my S7Trash so that's the only way I can get the phone without opening a new line. I'm going to, but just wanted to know how some of you feel out there. Do you feel it's worth it? Or are you happy with whatever you had to swap back to until a later time?

Also, is it financially worth it to you? I'd love to hear the thoughts of the folks having to go that route to get theirs. I know I can't be alone. LoL

And even though I know they won't, I wish they had some type of discount or priority for the old N7 users.

I owned my Note 7 outright and I own my current S7 Active outright - NO contracts any more with AT&T! When the Note 8 is available in AT&T Stores and I can put one in my hand and actually check it out against the S8+ and the new S8 Active (if it ever comes out), then I'll make a decision and probably buy one outright - I've had the money put away since about 2 months after they took away my "Replacement" Note 7, wishing and hoping something was going to happen soon!!! Right!

Will phone companies even let you activate the note7?

Are you able to pay off your current device and then upgrade? That would be cheaper if allowed by your carrier

Why did you lock yourself in with a phone you consider trash?

Why did you lock yourself in with a phone you consider trash?

Because I had no other choice at the time to do that, and it was cheaper. And the phone was terrible, but I didn't realize how much of a piece of trash it was until after purchase. So yeah...there's that.

And besides, it's nothing to just buy the phone retail. I don't believe in leasing or installment paying.

You don't believe in installment paying but you believe in a 2 year contract? o_O

I sure did, because it made the best sense for my particular plan at that moment. But hey if that doesn't work for you, you're free to due installment pay, but I won't be doing it.

I believe in one time payments, so that's what I'm going with on the Note 8.

Why didn't you return the device within the 14 day window?

I just find it odd. Installment payments are literally the same as buying fully out right except spread out. Most carriers even allow you to toss extra (such as $100 a month or something) at it to help lower it so it is the same thing as buying full price but .. with 0% interest.

I had already sold my original device, and there wasn't anything else comparable for my needs. And the real issues didn't start until after that window, as it always does.

It's not odd at all. I don't want anything extra on my bill. Why have a higher phone bill when I can just buy the phone on a cold sale? That, to me, makes no sense if I already have the cash on hand.

Because the phone bill being higher is no different. At the end of the day you spend the same on your phone bill + what you would have on the phone with nothing extra tac'd on for doing so lol :P. You just simply don't have to cough up all the cash up front. If you have it then yeah sure buy fully .. but if someone wants to buy it and pay it off over 3-4 months installment is way better then locking in for two years.

But there IS a different. There's a huge one. When I'm balancing my bank account, I like things to be debited one good time, and that's it. Have my phone bill be the price that it's always been, and call it a day.

Too many times have I see people (because I worked at Sprint since we're providing proof today) get their stuff get cut off because they weren't able to financially handle the added amounts to their bill. Could I do it? Yes, I have an amazing job. But why would I do that when my job has put me in a blessed position to swipe my card once, and call it a day?

I can't speak for other people, nor do I care about them. I'm just saying for me it definitely is different, and I find my way to be more fiscally responsible.

But you signed a 2 year so you guaranteed 2 years of service? I guess I just don't see how one would worry about a $30 phone payment that they could pay off early but is okay with signing a contract guaranteeing their service for 2 years. Both are technically putting you at risk if you're worried about paying things off so the logic doesn't check out for me :P.

Well clearly my previous post wasn't read where I said I believe in cold sells over everything, because I've said that more than once here today. 2 years are my secondary choice, and now that is not an option, so I'm definitely going with a cold sell.

And, with Sprint at least, cancelling out on a 2 year even after adding in the subsidized price you pay can come out cheaper in terms of what you owe. But that's neither here nor there.

And as far as adding another 30 bucks a month to your phone bill, it might not make a difference for you, but I've seen it up close make a difference for many. I'm blessed where that would never been the case, but I'm also an adult and don't have time to raise my bills any higher than I would like them when I can make a purchase for something one time then and there.

But hey, that's the business major in me. What can I say?
