What really bothers me is not the fact that that Verizon always seems to be last in releasing these updates, it is the fact that they refuse to communicate with their customers regarding the process. A little communication would go a long way. If Verizon were to say that they hope to see the update pushed out in 2 days, 2 weeks, or 2 months, it would at least address the frustration people waiting for the update are having. It would be a lot easier waiting if we knew we were only waiting a week, rather than not knowing if it will be released before Christmas.
I have asked Verizon Wireless several times via Twitter, email, and phone support and each time they refuse to even address the issue. They always tell me they "have no information regarding the update". Which is BS. I don't want a date scrawled in blood, bur rather a target date that they would like to see 2.2 be released. It would help lots of people decide if they want to install a manual update from the web, or wait for the official release. A simple bit of knowledge would put many customers at ease.
I have been bugging Verizon about this quite often, and if you would like to be made aware of whats going on, I suggest you do too. Not for them to get this update out immediately(which would be great!), but to let us know where they stand with it. I don't think that is too much to ask. As Android grows as an OS, these updates are an integral part of Android. I know to many people, maybe even most, these updates may not be that important. However, to myself and many others, they are a big deal. This latest update is bringing some big and great things to Android such as Flash support, BT voice dialing capabilities, 720p video recording, major speed increases, and on and on. Of course people are eagerly anticipating it. It's a huge deal as far as Android goes. Yes, I want it to be tested and released working as best it can so I don't mind waiting a little bit for that to be possible, but when I sit and watch all these other phones receive it, and be told when to expect it, it frustrates me. I don't think a little information on Verizon's part is too much to ask. I know they don't want to overpromise and underdeliver, so I don't need anything specific, but a heads up on where we are at would be nice.
To push it a little father into the land of "never gonna happen" I would love to see "beta updates" on their website so people could manually download the most recent working version, as they push to release a final product. Would satisfy many folks, and they would also get free feedback on the target audience. But yea, I think we could start with a little communication
Sorry to rant, this issue just bothers the hell out of me. If it does you as well, I urge you to let Verizon know. Tell them we are adults, would like to be treated as such, and want to know what the timeline for the release of Froyo is looking like from their perspective. Damnit!
