I woke up and omg!

Bottom line is this shouldn't happen on ANY phone. There isn't a phone out there that I (or any manufacturer or carrier) would accept this from. What you're saying is that the phone was asleep, in standby, with a full battery and died overnight? That isn't a "battery problem". It's either a defective battery, or something was running in the background and eating data all night.

Since other users are not seeing this, could you provide us with a list of apps that you've installed from the market, or at the very least give us a rundown of the apps you used over the last hour or so before going to bed?
Sure, im still new to this I went to running in my applications and this is what came up, accounts and sync, android system, Bakery story (how is that running im n ot even playing it) BrcmBluetoothServices
(blue tooth not even on) I have two Facebook's, Facebook for HTC Sense and one that just say Facebook (don't know how that happened) Flickr (dont use that) Friendstream (dont use that)Gmail(I closed that but its running) Gtunes music, Live wallpaper (dont know how to stop that) swype, Im just so frustrated, a lot of other things a running but nothing that I installed *sighs*

This is like the best question ever.

If the words "task killer" come back, that is the first thing I would try installing. Heck, I even have a Live Wallpaper called WP Clock that definitely impacts battery life, but It's too cool for me to give up :/

It would be cool if they invented a phone that could detect when you actually were asleep and went into airplane mode! :D
Hi Cory,

My son has the Evo and he use task killer why doesn't it affect his phone? He is yelling saying mom get the task killer and extended battery but Im SO BEAT OVER THIS, I was sleep and phone was fully charged woke up and it's dead. Is task killer that bad?

or could try using quick settings to disable the data coonection at night I have a few suggestions in the tips & tricks thread that Cyber had posted. Could be used as good guide for some of you that needs certain apps for certain needs. It is post 192 on pg 20 hope it can help out?!

Thank you, what Im trying to figure out is why is task killer considered bad?

Task Killer is bad in this way. You set up task killer to "kill" off apps that you don't want "running". However here is the issue with that. Quite a few of those will be automaticallt restarted becuase they were programed that way or another program may also use said process. So in effect you end of using more battery stopping and system re-starting the processes/programs.

Android 2.2 change the way memory was handled, it does a great job at it. If it needs memory for a program you just started up, it will shut something down to get the memory it needs. People used the task killer to try and manage how much memory they had available.

Task Killers are considered bad because Android 2.2 and above manage running programs dynamically. The task killer can actually use MORE battery by running in the background. Bottom line is the reward just isn't there.

Bakery Story is most likely suspended when you're not playing it, and I haven't heard of it draining battery. Facebook (the app) is different than Facebook for HTC Sense (it's an integrated Facebook that the phone uses to link contacts, populate FriendStream, etc) I haven't heard of battery drain with Gtunes either. Gmail and Flickr are going to run in the background, as is Swype, but they shouldn't account for the battery drain you are seeing.

Are you using an included Live Wallpaper or one you downloaded? I honestly can't see anything out of whack from what you've posted. Maybe I'm missing something? Anyone?

mine was fully charged before bed last night and it was completely dead and turned off when i woke up. now i use my phone for my alarm so i am glad that i was able to wake up the time i wanted to. i have work! lol so im assuming this is because of the autosyncing that is set up for my facebook and what not. it cant just be the apps its not like they are being used. i will probably end up at verizon later to find out.

If this is the case, why did I have a full charge be fore I went to bed, took the phone out of the charger, woke up and dead. Im so lost

I don't use friendstream but when I went to running apps its running along with a lot of other things I didnt download, I didn't name them because I think it comes with the phone. HTC sense live wallpaper is running also.

I never use a virus scanner on my phone. I think they are unnecessary. Just read the comments in the market before you download an app, simple

At this point, unless you're downloading "shady" programs with names like "Sexy Korean Girls" or "Make Money Overnight" you're fairly safe without the Virus scanner, IMO.

I needed that laugh. Thank you

Unless you sideload pirated apps from websites in Chinese, you don't need it.

DO NOT get a Task Killer, my friend Mia has a Fascinate and her battery life sucks and I tell her "Uninstall the task killer" but she's like "But...Verizon installed it for me..." Ugh, she annoys me to no end. This is why I made sure I told the employee "Active the phone, and do nothing else. kthnx" He wasn't happy.

Either this guy is trolling or he really has something wrong with his phone. My tbolt was at 50% when I went to bed at 1am exactly. I just picked it up off the night stand at 10am exactly and it only dropped tp 45% that's a 5% drop in 9 hours of standby.

I even forgot to turn wifi on which usually saves my battery some at home. I have facebook and all that crap set up to sync every 3 hours. I use launcher pro and none of the sense things that would want to sync.

I use Friendstream. That's not the probem. I can't see an included Live Wallpaper doing this. I'm really looking for that "rogue" program that would jump out at me and say "I'M EATING LOVY'S BATTERY AS A LATE NIGHT SNACK!!" and I'm not seeing it. At this point, I'm starting to think it's something with either the phone or the battery. On the other hand, we now have two users reporting the problem.

Are you in a 3G or 4G area? If you are on the borderline, or if you have a weak signal, the phone polling the network and going in and out of 3G or 4G could do this. I don't recall if you said you had wifi on. I leave wifi on all the time. It is Much more battery efficient than mobile data.
