[ICS][4.0.4][4/2] Official IMM76K Update Thread for the VZW GNex

Re: [ICS][4.0.4][5/29] Official IMM76K Update Thread for the VZW

So this is the "exact same" thing that we have been manually flashing the last month? I just did the update over the weekend. Is there anything in this official patch that would be worth resetting to stock and taking the OTA version?

As far as I can tell? No, same thing.

Re: [ICS][4.0.4][5/29] Official IMM76K Update Thread for the VZW

Okay! Newbie to unlocking and rooting here. I successfully unlocked and rooted my VZW GNexus. I then successfully made a nandroid backup. I then flashed the 4.0.4 ROM manually successfully. I then proceeded to set up my phone the way I wanted. I went to make a nandroid backup of that but it when I tried to do this by using "Backup Current ROM" in ROM Manager, nothing happens. Then I tried to do it via "Reboot into Recovery". I get the "are you sure msg" and I hit "ok" and then, again, nothing happens.

I really want to make another nandroid before trying out other ROMs. Any idea as to what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Check your PMs ;)

In short, try flashing recovery via Rom Manager. Let me know if that works.

Okay. Thanks for the info. I tried flashing recovery via Rom Manager and got an error msg. So then I powered down and tried the volume buttons + power button. Choose recovery and got the Android on his back with the red exclamation point.

I had this before when I made my first nandroid. I followed the steps in the Guide on how to backup & restore by downloading root explorer and changing "recovery-from.boot.p" to "recovery-from.boot.p.bak"

Phone just rebooted on its own. Not sure what to do next...

It appears that CWM is gone. Do you have Wug's? You can use that or fastboot to flash recovery back on.

Check out a thread posted by Vance today in the rooting forum. I posted a link in there that should help you.

Question for those who have been running IMM76K for a while. Did they fix the issue where the media scanner is ignoring ".nomedia" files and ".foldername" folders (or rather, isn't ignoring the latter), where it will still pick up changes in those directories?

No problem, good luck :).

I was just rereading the directions and I never used root keeper. Do you think in lost root and that is my problem?

Certainly could be part of it. Once you flash CWM you need to flash the new superuser app. Check the posts in the development forum for a link.

If I have it rooted but stock will I not get it automatically? Do I have to do it manually?

You should be able to receive and update with the OTA, but keep in mind you will lose root.

To those of you with 4.0.4: Do you see a difference in the landscape keyboard? By that, I mean is the lag gone? I have the issue where it won't stay caught up with what I'm typing in real time on 4.0.2...

It is much better.

Thanks! I'll check it out. I appreciate all of your help.

Quick update! I got it to work! DL Wug's Toolkit and followed it to the "T". Same thing happened. I was still losing root. Then I found the info on the new, modified su.zip for 4.0.4. Used that su.zip instead fof the one in the toolkit and it worked perfectly.

Thanks again for your direction and help!

I've been trying out Swift key beta 3 and it works perfectly!

Glad everything worked!

The beta is my favorite keyboard right now, bar none.

Re: [ICS][4.0.4][4/2/] Official IMM76K Update Thread for the VZW

Updated for the roll out. Some rooted folks have been unable to take the OTA. Your options are to either (1) update manually, or (2) unroot and ensure you have a stock recovery.

Re: [ICS][4.0.4][4/2/] Official IMM76K Update Thread for the VZW

So I noted last night that my wife's Nexy after the official OTA to 4.0.4 and my Nexy rooted and running the leaked 4.0.4 version from last month has different 3G base band radios, the 4G radios are the same. I tested both phones and the signal strength and down and up speeds are comparable. BTW the leaked version is the I515.09 version and the official VZ OTA last night installed I515.10 version on my wife's phone.
Has anyone else noted any other differences?

That's not the radio--that's a hardware revision--and has nothing to do with different versions of any software, but rather different versions of hardware.

.10 is supposedly "newer," but no one has any details on what it's purpose is or if there are any changes.

Further, you can't change it. You can't go from .9 to .10 or .10 to .9; try flashing a bunch of different radio packages and see ;).
