ICS 4.0.4 leak

I have tried to flash this 1/2 dozen times and it just wont happen, also I have redownloaded the file 4 times thinking I had a bad file. From 2 different links that is.

I am stock 905 & using stock recovery.

Keep getting this error:

assert failed: apply...patch...check("system/bin/mount...ext3.sh". a whole bunch of numbers & then:
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(status 7)
Istallation aborted

Darn kids these days. :D That's not a bad download, that's an assert failure against your system. It's because you have the forever root mod installed. I've probably typed the following a dozen times in the last 2 days. LOL!

-Use Root Explorer to edit /system/bin/mount_ext3.sh
-Remove the chmod lines at the end of the file
-Make sure there's a newline after the last fi so that the cursor is on the beginning of the next line
-Save
-???
-Profit!

:D

The update doesn't believe you. :D That assertion means that something changed mount_ext3.sh as they do a checksum on it. If the checksum doesn't match, it fails the assertion and aborts the update. So, you may not have root, but, that file most definitely doesn't match what it's supposed to. :)

But without root access I can't edit. Correct?

I understand exactly what your saying, I just viewed the file & sure enough there is reference to super user there.

Those that have installed the leak, how is it working? Are there many force closes? Are you able to run the apps you want without issues? How is the signal both data and voice? Are you able to make called, any dropped calls, and are all calls coming through? How is the data connection? Does camera and video front and back work? In other words is it worth downloading and installing or will I have a crippled phone if I do?

Errrrr, yea, sadly that's true. I don't even know if you can look at it without root. Never tried. My phones don't stay unrooted long enough to worry about such things. You could use motofail to root it temporarily so you can edit the file, then you can use Voodoo Root Keeper to remove root if you don't to be rooted. Or you can use Voodoo Root Keeper to protect root and restore it after the update. Up to you. But I would recommend at least temporarily rooting so you can find out what's going on with that file. It won't install the update until that's fixed.

So far, flawless for me. A few minor hiccups but nothing serious. Data has been flawless. Did a speed test yesterday and got 25/15 on LTE. Webtop seems to be the biggest issue for people, but, installing another launcher like Apex has fixed that for people. Adding widgets to the home screen was a slight issue for me, but, I switched to Apex and can add them from there (must be rooted). You can add them without Apex, but, it doesn't show the widget names so it makes it hard when you have something like beautiful widgets installed to see what you're adding. It's really been awesome. The majority of the people I've seen who've done the update have absolutely loved it.

I will use the matofail to root. Will I have to unroot to install the ics update?

Thanks for your quick replies.

No, you don't have to unroot. You will lose root through the update, though. Just use Voodoo Root Keeper to protect it or you can use the new root exploit that's been released. Search Bionic 4.0.4 root and you'll find a link for it if you need it.

I installed it last night. I was on 905, rooted with all bloat frozen and safestrap installed. I uninstalled safestrap, flashed the stock preinstall image (safestrap overwrites it and the ICS install looks for it) with fastboot, thawed all bloatware and unrooted with Voodoo.

I did NOT wipe or flash back to 902 although I had all the files ready just in case. I installed the leak right over top of my existing 905 installation and it went without a problem. It booted up and everything works, even my existing widgets came up working fine. I've found a couple of apps that don't work right, reinstalling fixed most of them, the one it didn't fix wasn't critical to me.

It's great folks. Fast, smooth and so far I haven't found any flaws of consequence. Or any of little consequence for that matter. I think we're all going to be very happy Bionic owners soon. I am right now.

Well I have a rooted bionic now & I've edited the file like you instructed and still got same error when flashing the ics update.

It has to be edited EXACTLY as I said. Delete back to the end of the fi line, then hit enter, then save.

Done & still not happening!

It's still not matching. I can only tell you what has worked for many people including myself.

The hard way is to fxz back to 902, take the 905 update, and then do the update.

What would happen if I were to use the file from someone else's bionic? Just a thought.
