ICS in June!

Yea I would say that HTC is the best at getting updates out ( after the nexus get them because they are almost always the first to get) Samsung and LG are bad at getting updates out to "older" phones. I used to have the Samsung Transform before the Evo 3D and the Transform got Froyo (2.2) When all the newer phones were getting Gingerbread. HTC on the other hand has gotten updates out to most of their phones at around the time that i had my transform.

With Virgin Mobile you get ICS right out of the box with Sense 3.6... I really wish it would be 4.0 so it would be faster and smother.. 3.6 is just heavy compared to 4.0
So they put ICS on it right out of the box but no 4.0? Thats kind of disappointing

What is the difference between sense 3.6 and 4.0?

HTC's new phones are shipping with ICS and Sense 4.0. There are lots of good Sense 4.0 walkthru's online. AC did a good one here. http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-sense-4-complete-walkthrough

HTC's old phones that are being updated to ICS are getting Sense 3.6. Here's a pretty good walkthru of Sense 3.6. [YT]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYoQDqXg78Y[/YT]

The best summary I can give is that Sense 4.0 is much less "heavy". It's closer to stock ICS, with additional features and theming on top. (for the most part). It's been getting very good reviews. Sense 3.6 is much more like Sense 3.0, but with ICS features added to it. It's a much more heavy handed replacement of stock Android, like what you have now.

Oh that is a huge difference. How come we aren't getting 4.0? If the hardware required to run ICS 4.0 is on the Evo 3D then why wouldn't we get 4.0?

I really hope this phone does get ICS/Sense 4.0. My fiancee is getting one (for free) and I cannot wait to tinker!

I can understand that the hardware of the 2011 phones can't support everything that is part of the Sense 4.0 experience, for example the upgraded camera software and the beats audio sound inhancements. Those things are definitely limited by hardware, so HTC wouldn't want to call it Sense 4.0

But that doesn't explain the UI differences between Sense 3.6 and Sense 4.0. There are Sense 4.0 ROMs that run on the Evo 3D just fine (from what I understand), so that indicates the UI difference are not due to a hardware limitation. It may be related to how deeply you can make changes with an OTA update vs a full reset and reinstall. It may be a strategic decision to avoid confusing less tech savy customers with a totally different UI. Or it may be a marketing decision to encourage people to buy the One series phones.

I'm leaning more and more to rooting my Evo 3D.

The fact that the EVO 3D will never see Jellybean and isn't getting upgraded to sense 4.0 has nothing to do with hardware specs and everything to do with that fact that HTC/Sprint want you to buy their new phones.

I'm worried that Sprint might hold back the 3D ICS update since the new Evo got delayed in customs. They may want more exclusivity time for those who lined up for the new hardware and to see if they can squeeze an out of contract upgrade from some of us on the 3D too impatient to wait.

HTC has said we are getting ICS in June/July time frame.

Why not just root your phone and you could already have ICS!

I'll buy a new lte evo when 4g is available in my area if its not when my contract is up July next year I'll be heading somewhere else with better coverage but I hope their network enhancements really do work though

Yea that's true. Every ICS ROM I've tried has either messed up 4G, 3D, or Both. Anthrax's ICS kernel won't let me charge my phone while it's on either.

I'm running CleanROM ICS RC2 and everything that I have tried works. WiFi, 4G, camera (2D & 3D). I haven't found anything that doesn't work yet.
