I'm beginning to regret getting this phone

Did you not read what I said about the iPhone?

And no, this is not the best device yet. The best device yet would at least be more stable than this for more people than just yourself.

Count me as one with my phone being very stable both before and after the update.

Sorry that you're experiencing that though - it has to be extremely frustrating. I'd definitely check with Verizon to see if they will replace your phone.

For ME and my experiences, the Bolt is an awesome phone/computer. Hopefully you'll get a better phone and fall back in love with it.

Ok, that is BS. Absolutely unacceptable. I paid way to much for this phone to get some patched up piece of crap that was previously owned. I'm about to go raise hell with Verizon.

Regarding the SD, are you saying they swap that between the phones?

You've obviously never gotten a factory reconditioned device from VZW. If no one told you it wasn't new, you wouldn't know. You won't get a scratched device, as they have to be certified like-new. They even have the plastic screen protection and other stuff just like a new device.

Ok, got it. I've just installed My Backup (and believe it or not, the phone didn't even reboot!) and this thing is pretty slick. Backups up all the app data on everything I have installed as well as SMS and MMS and even the screen configurations.

Neat.

I'll at least be able to root this time since I have to set it all back up again, but I'm just not going to deal with them pawning a refurbished phone on me.

To the person that got one shipped to them, was yours new or a refurb?

It was refurbished. No complaints at all. I was leery about it, but the phone looked mint. No scratches or scuffs. Also, you have a very small chance of getting a replacement from the store. Their new replacement policy mentioned something about stores not carrying replacements any more (the CS lady I spoke with checked around my area and found no phones within 50 miles of me). They do pay for overnight shipping though.

Agreed. Many times a re-conditioned phone is someone who changed their mind in the first 14 days. New devices have random devices checked in a run. All re-conditioned have to pass a slew of tests before they are certified. You really won't be able to tell it's not new. And it's less likely to have problems since it had to be tested before being certified.

YAY!!!

See - that makes me think it is build issues again. Why would the same model phones be so different otherwise?

It makes me think it's a software issue, probably a corrupted file either in the OTA or corrupted when installed.Possibly even a conflict with an app that was written for the pre-OTA radio. From what I've been reading the phone seems to get into somekind of loop that kills battery and overheats it. I'm guessing the overheating might be causing the reboots as a safty feature?

Mine has been fine, no reboots so I'm just making guesses based on what I've read. If my phone was messing up, I'd be as mad as the op, but I'm sure VZW will resolve the situation. that won't give you your downtime back however.

I hope you get it resolved, it's a great phone when it works, and fortunately for me, it always has

Not sure if I want to jump into such a heated thread on my first post here, but...

I have to agree that it's a software issue. I got the OTA last Thursday and had no problems until Saturday night (I think), then the phone started rebooting every few hours. This went on until Sunday afternoon when I read on another thread about someone fixing the issue by powering down and removing the battery. I tried that and haven't had a single reboot since, and I've been keeping track of my uptime to be sure.

This may not work for everyone, but it seems to have worked for me.

You people are bad karma.
Mine just reboot. This is the first (at least, the first I have noticed) since installing the update last week.

I've been with Verizon a long time. I have gotten replacements for other devices before. They typically look new, and they work with you to make sure it is like the one you are replacing.
So if mine is a big issue, I'm disappointed, but not going to have a fit over it.

Yeah I dont know. I dont think it is a corrupted file in the OTA or I would think we would all have an issue. Since many of us dont I dont think it is that.I will grant you that it could be software. I was postulating in another thread that maybe it has to do with app syncing and the phone either not having a timeout for the sync process or that that is what is not working.

I am also just guessing as I no issues either. Just helping the thought processes by adding my 2 cents.

I find it a little amazing the people are suggesting a bad OTA file download for all the reboot issues. Those started occurring in the leaked ROMs used by the various devs in their custom roms. The issues has been clearly identified as the new radio.

Now I happen to be one of the lucky ones who has a TB that has never had a reboot. I've been rooted and running a custom rom within the first week of owning this phone. I am bothered by the nasty and negative tone of a lot of the responses by people who are fortunate enough to not be having issues. Yes, I am one of those fortunate people but I have to add that I am seeing way too many people having issues with the TB. That should not be happening. There is something wrong with too many of these phones.

My only suggestion would be to get Verizon to replace your phone and then hope that you get one of the good ones.

Yeah, I'd go to Verizon.

The only thing wrong with my ThunderBolt was that I'm assuming the battery it came with was bad, it was loosing battery waaaaay to quick. I was going to ask for a new battery at V, but I already had coming to me an extended battery.

Since then, no reboot, ROM'D and rooted & good battery

I'm not trading my Tbolt for another even though I'm getting reboots. I am hoping another update will fix it. Pre OTA I didn't get reboots.

My GPS is good, battery life good with extended battery. Though not as good as pre OTA.

This is still the best device I've owned in terms of features and capabilities. I've also had way buggier phones than this.

For the first month, I went on and on about how this is without a doubt the best phone I have ever owned, but now that cool new tech toy high has worn off, this is phone in sincerely pissing me off.

I'm getting reboots like CRAZY. It's happening at least 4-5 times a day. That's the reboots I noticed. Several of them have occured when I was on a call. More when I was using the simplest of apps. And then - bang - there it goes.

The GPS radio is a POS. Took 15 minutes yesterday to find the sattelites. Two minutes later, it was lost again.

The battery just seems to get worse. I've stripped the thing down to the barest essentials and it's worthless.

The only good news I can find is that I got an iPhone 4 from my job and you couldn't pay me to own one of those things personally. That thing is unbelievably unflexible and not very pretty. Apples grey/bluish grey color scheme looks like crap. Android as an operating system is so much better than Apple's. The Droid browser smokes Apple, even on 3G.

So, in summary, HTC and Verizon need to get their damn act together, pronto. There is no reason this phone should be this unstable.

Sounds to me like you need to do a master reset and start all over again. Im not totally happy with this thing either. Im not getting any reboots at all so rebooting is not that common or automatic because of the OTA update. My phone is running just like it did before the OTA. Im glad I only have a one year contract however.

Did a battery/SIM pull after getting a random reboot a couple of days ago for the first time.

My phone is running as good or better than ever at the moment since the OTA. 2 days with no reboots either manually or randomly. LTE on with 3 bars. Battery at 81% full. Taken off charger 4.5 hours ago. The biggest use of my battery always is DISPLAY. Also phone calls eat battery quite a bit. My data connection is rarely a heavy battery user unless I'm streaming something with video which means a large data stream combined with display on continuously.

I guess I just got lucky with mine. Over 60 apps installed. Quite a few scheduled automatically to update or download things in the background or run widgets (i.e.: ScoreMobile widget, PodTrapper for podcasts, K9 Mail, Yahoo Mail, etc).

Do I wish the stock battery was bigger? You bet. Other than that ....

Yeah, before I take it back, I just pulled the battery.

Can't believe I didn't think of that earlier, but we'll see if it does anything for it.

I did a battery pull without powering off the device, also slid the SIM out at the same time. Then held down the power button for 15 seconds with battery removed to clear all stored charge in the capacitors. Put it all back together, rebooted, Used GPS Status tool to clear and redownload aGPS info and good to go. Haven't had a reboot or power-off failure and a noticeable improvement in battery ever since. Maybe it didn't need it and I'm seeing a "placebo effect" but I was really nervous I was going to start getting plagued with reboots and it just isn't happening now.

I had the rebooting issues during the first week and thy replaced it for me in store. I haven't had a problem since. Maybe an exchange is the best option.

Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt using Tapatalk.
