I'm beginning to regret getting this phone

I should correct a slight misnomer I see popping up here: Technically you are not *supposed* to have overnight shipping nowadays unless you have the $1.99 Extended Warranty or the $6.99 Total Equipment Coverage. Otherwise it ships economy with USPS and can take up to five days unless you want to pony up $7 or $13 for expedited options. Sometimes the system puts free overnight on the account anyway, but I have not found a person that would care about that.

The part that irritated me was that we cannot manually credit the shipping like we used to with warranty replacements to show some customer appreciation. That means in order for us to get you good shipping if you have no extended warranty or TEC, you better hope you pay your damn bill on time so we can charge it to your account then credit it from there. But I digress...

I am surprised I have not been hearing more calls regarding the Thunderbolt, honestly. Reading here you would think the phone works worse than the BB Storm 1, but most Thunderbolt calls I am hearing are still network related (as in, not getting 4G/3G etc).

Aside, all of us whom bought Thunderbolt should be wise enough to know that it is a new era. Was the first Motorola Droid bug-free? Hell no! It was horrible at first... and some still are horribly buggy. The Thunderbolt/Charge/Revolution all fall into the milestone category, and are EXPECTED to be buggy. That is what common sense dictates for ANY new technology.

Oh, and Sokar, not all of us at Big Red are blithering idiots, so if you do call in, try to remember its not the agents fault your phone is not working. You will find your options crumble the more belligerent you are with an agent.

I just did that! Lol, made sense to me. Let's see if it works.

FYI, when I say Master Reset I mean putting the phone back to out of the box stock and starting all over again. re loading everything including the OTA.

lol...that's funny

I've recovered more than one PC or laptop that wouldn't post for customers by doing the exact same thing. Try it yourself, pull the AC power on your PC and watch the power indicator light as you press the power button. You will see the light flash briefly. You could also just wait for everything to drain on its own. Are you saying there is NO capacitance on the circuit board of these devices? Do you doubt that pressing the power button closes a circuit that will pull power? I'm missing the joke ...

Well, the situation is crashing and burning real fast.

I thought after the battery pull, it might be better. But I was hanging out at a friends house tonight and all hell broke lose.

I left my phone outside. I know for a fact that it was around 80% battery charge. After about an hour, I walked outside and I had a white screen with several Androids at the bottom and a few menu choices. It was like a bootloader screen. Some of options included Fastload Recover and Recovery. There were also a few other options.

I can't remember which of them I chose because I had a few drinks, but the phone rebooted and came up with a picture of a phone, a red triangle, and a red exclamation point sticking through the triangle. It took a battery pull to get anything to work at that point, but it finally came back up.

My phone is dying. This thing is a piece of crap. I've never had this much trouble with a phone before. It's amazing how quickly the situation is degrading. It feels like it's one reboot away from never coming up again.

Now I have no choice but to call Verizon. I'm inches away from being without a means of communication.

Damn I wish I hadn't gone down the path of the bleeding edge.

Sokar, I feel for you. Not too long ago I started up a contract with another carrier and a new EVO. I absolutely loved the phone. It was awesome at first. Then, slowly the newness wore off. My batt life was crap. My reception was avg at best. I couldnt play streaming videos, (which was a known issue) and the time it took to download with full 3G bars was a joke. It was extremely frustrating because I really liked the phone. I began to think maybe I could overlook these issues, until I sat next to a friend with exactly the same phone and realized it was my phone. By this time it was coming up on my 30 day decision time, so I asked if they could fix the phone and extend my time to opt out. (of course they wouldnt extend my time) but would do what they could to fix it. I decided I couldnt take the chance on being stuck for another 2 yrs so I turned all 3 phones in, and went back to my original carrier and got my Atrix. What a difference!!!!

I guess my point is, I understand how you feel, it sucks. On the other hand, carriers are fighting more than ever now to keep their customers, so if you went in and explained your issue, told them you really like your phone/service, that they would probably do everything they could to keep you happy. Just remember that Its all about attitude, or lack thereof.
Good luck-

I too am suffering from the random reboots (2-3 a day) and now the GPS takes a very long time to lock in. This occurred after the update. Although I am suffering this problem, I still feel this phone to be a great phone. I believe that there will be a fix shortly (Hopefully). Apparently this update wasn't tested correctly.

I do wish there was a way to return the phone back to the previous software until the fix is made. HTC and Verizon should get together on this and work a way to push the original firmware back to the phone, for those of us that are having the issues. I do not want to root my phone so I will try to be patient for a little while.

Can't Verizon just get the original firmware and up the release number by 1 and push it? They could sound out the notice over phones that although it is a higher build number, it is actually the original build and should be used for those having issues with the recent release. It sure would be an easy workaround for now.

Verizon if your listening, PUSH the new update FAST. Don't take forever testing because your testing looks likes it could be flawed.

And by the way, to all of those people who are now saying this phone is junk and they are tired of it, well news for you. I had a Blackberry that suffered through update problems. All smart phones suffer through this. It could happen to any phone out there.

I used to work in the Software Validation group in the Electronics department for an automotive supplier.
The project leaders would always be impatient for testing to complete and release the software build to the customer before testing was completed. They're sometimes too obsessed with meeting a release schedule instead of releasing a quality product.
Happened on a lot of projects.

I wonder if that is how this blunder happened too.

Ok, that is BS. Absolutely unacceptable. I paid way to much for this phone to get some patched up piece of crap that was previously owned. I'm about to go raise hell with Verizon.

Regarding the SD, are you saying they swap that between the phones?

They are hiding behind the counters they are so scared about you raising help. I am sure the Verizon CEO is on his way with your new phone. Grow up, conduct yourself in a mature manor and you will be treated fairly. My phone is great yours is not. Get a replacement and mice

We are listening, but if we rush a fix things may be even worse. HTC is busting their ass to get things working... I assure you of that.

Bite me, big boy.

How I deal with Verizon isn't really any of your damn business. Is it?

My Thunderbolt randomly rebooted a few times before the update but now it's getting ridiculous. Mine reboots at least once a day and has rebooted about 4 times today so far. The update did nothing for me. I may call Verizon to see if I can get any help that way. Going into the store does no good. They are very little help. I've found more help on this forum.

I don't have this phone but have read there are a lot of issues with it. But there are still issues with the 4G network as well. As one person pointed out, Verizon is replacing the device for those who have problems after the OTA . You can take your device to the store and they will most likely replace it for you

Sorry to hear you're having so many problems man. Since the update I've only gotten 2 random reboots and after clearing the aGPS cache my GPS locks on like a pro. Maybe a factory reset would help?

I must have a Horse Shoe up my A$$ because I have not seen my phone reboot once since the update.

Never had an issue with Verizon customer service. After the Froyo update to my Fascinate, my GPS stopped working and I called them up, told them I did a master reset, battery pull, re-set up phone to see if it fixed it and it didn't. The Service Rep didn't even hesitate and said "Okay, sounds like you did everything already, we are going to send you a replacement." I wasn't even thinking about getting a replacement, but oh vay! And this talk of the refurbished phones not being up to snuff, my Sammy is a refurb and looked squeaky clean. Couldn't tell the difference between a new one and the one I got. I work as a Tech Support specialist with a laser company here in the Bay Area and I've had to deal with many a mad customer about why their product isn't working properly (some really nasty comments too). Just remember that the reps are people too. Just be courteous and they will take care of you. And if they are rude or anything, file a complaint. Trust me, managers do look at those complaints. ;-)

Oh yes we do! And if you rate a rep low on a survey, you better believe we will be calling you back to see as to why and if we can resolve it... granted unless the person that failed a rep on a survey did so because we would not make a free iPhone magically appear in his hand that instant.
