Initial Impressions of the HTC 10

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

The build quality of HTC is far superior to Samsung. I haven't seen the S7 but the S6 and S6 edge with the shiny gloss finish and over saturated screens, they look like they were built for a 6 year old. Plus they are fingerprint magnets. It just feels like a toy as opposed to my M8 which feels like a solid device. I'm sure the M10 maintains the same build quality as the M8 or better. People flock to Samsung because of the marketing, not because of the quality of its products.

See, some of what you said tells me that you have little understanding of what you're talking about.

The screen is just as saturated as the user wants it to be since they include multiple display modes.

Not going to disagree about fingerprints since it is glass, but the amount of visibility of those varies with device color.

The M8 WAS a great device, sure, but I wouldn't say it feels hands down better than the S7 or that it feels more "solid" just because it's metal.

"I haven't seen the S7" <- I can tell. :P

Marketing gets them to Samsung. Quality of the products keeps them there.

I have not seen the S7 in person. But from what I have read it is not a big departure from the S6 in terms of materials and build quality.

We will have to agree to disagree. Samsung's marketing is no doubt very persuasive. When I was in the market for a new phone a year ago, since the M9 was a swing and a miss, I was all set to get the S6 or S6 Edge based on the pre-release hype and marketing. Until I went to Best Buy and got some hands on time with them. What a disappointment. I ended up getting a new M8 even though the M9 was already out. IMO a year old model was still the best phone on the market. Plus Verizon was giving them away for free with a new 2 yr contract. I couldn't be happier.

I believe you can download the HTC gallery app from the play store.

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

Almost no one has an HTC 10. Almost no one knows about the build quality. We can make statements about the build materials but even that is guesswork based on assumptions about "metal". On build quality, let's wait and see if it is actually good or not. I suspect it is but suspect and know are different.

I like it. I definitely want to see some reviews to see how it performs in real time on a network and of course I want to put my hands on it as well too. That's just my process.

True. But build quality has not been an issue for HTC, especially since the M7. The issue has been subpar cameras, and with the M9 some reports of overheating and not so great battery life. It sounds like those issues have been addressed with the M10. Time will tell.... :-)

They're gonna need sales from non-forum posters. :)
Of course!

They need to sell as many of these as possible.

Especially when their financial situation is getting dire.

With the $100 discount it is $599, plus it comes with a very good pair of headphones. Factor that in, HTC's Uh Oh insurance and it's actually a pretty reasonable price for a phone that matches the SGS7e spec wise and for sure will have a better UI.

How do we get the $100 discount?

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

I have a Galaxy S6 Edge + now but prior to it I owned a M7 and a M8 which I loved so much !!

HTC is what brought me over from Apple and now I'm itching to come back for the M10 !!

The only thing I'm hesitant about is that I love the screen SIZE of my Edge + so I'm not sure how going smaller will affect me when watching YouTube or whatnot on the M10 ??

Everyone will be different; but though I enjoyed watching movies on the M8, the extra half inch of real estate on the GS7 Edge does make a difference. Actually, my mobile preference for watching video/cinema is a tablet 9 inches or more-though clearly that type of device is not as convenient to carry as a phone.

I think it looks Great. The whole package. Gorgeous design.
I love my S7 but I can see many going HTC.
If HTC wouldn't have taken 14 months (forever, in the cell business) they would have likely got my money instead of samsung.
HTC needs to learn that 14 months is too long.
They better advertise the crapola out of it since they didn't release it on AT&T.
That's Millions of potential customers that won't even see this awesome 10 as an option. I really want to know the Real story about WHY?
Did AT&T say no? or did HTC say no, you can't add your direct TV ad into settings...

I'm not sure why.
Do carriers have every right to refuse a request from an OEM to sell their phone?

I would have to agree to disagree. If you held the S6 edge and the S7 edge you would instantly notice a build quality difference. The S6 Edge was setup in a way where the Edge seriously felt like it was cutting into your hand .. the S7 Edge doesn't feel like that at all.

But .. You can say that about the M7/M8/M9 but you can't comment on the M10 right? You haven't held the M10 so you don't know if there any build quality issues. Sorry to play the "devils advocate" but you go off strictly what you read on the S7 but can comment on how HTC does really well? Doesn't feel like a fair assessment since there isn't much on the M10. If you read the S7 reviews most rave about the design (especially since they fixed the S6 "knife edge" issue).

I used both the S6 Edge and the S7 Edge.

I can confirm that the S7e is much better to hold. The S6e wasn't exactly good in terms of ergonomics. The sides felt sharp and due to the slim sides and flat back, it felt like you were holding onto a rail. It felt a bit like a project phone.

The S7e is much better to hold. The slightly curved back plus improved fit-and-finish on where the edged display flows into the sides make a significant difference in how it feels.

It's still pretty slippery, though, helped in no way by my sweaty palms. xD

But overall, it's a pretty significant improvement and it's one of the better feeling phones I've held.

(And yes, like I said above, I actually held and used both at one time.)

From someone who has an S7 and a fiance who has the M8, I can tell you that in terms of build quality, both feel very solid and are quite a match for each other. My last Samsung was a S3 which felt like junk. The S7 is a complete different beast. I can tell you haven't seen the S7 personally or else you would never have written the above. My fiance is putting the 10 on a short leash. If it doesn't meet her expectations she is jumping to the S7, that's how much she likes it.
