Initial Impressions of the HTC 10

As much as I'm initially impressed by the HTC 10, I'm also extremely disappointed that it's exclusive to Bell in Canada and it's ludicrous outright price of $999. Like WTF HTC!? Heck even the M7 and M8 were available on all major Canadian carriers. I was so looking forward to upgrading to the 10 from my M8. What a damn shame. Maybe I'm jumping the gun here, but I feel like I have no other choice but to cross off the HTC 10 from my next smartphone upgrade options list. :'( Now my list only has one option, the Samsung Galaxy S7/Edge which is probably the first Samsung Galaxy smartphone to actually make me want to get one.

Dude just get an unlocked version and plug your sim in. I would import one from the US if I were you.

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

I'm sorry. I love my s6e and s7e. I haven't felt any sharp edges on the s6e. I rather prefer it to the s7e only because it's a little bigger.

Sold sold sold. Sexy design. Great sound. Great screen. Still have to see about the camera but they got the basics right. #thisismynext

SOOOOOLD!

Are you?

I like it and I'm returning my G5 tomorrow so I can check it out. I'm willing to pay the restocking fee and I'm returning instead of exchanging I won't be locked into the V10 because it will be a new purchase. Verizon only allows one exchange. Hope its released soon.

Don't forget if you order from HTC you get the "uh oh" protection which basically will give you a new phone if you break it and it even covers water damage. That's pretty awesome.

You get an HTC device you get Uh-Oh period. No matter if you get it from HTC or a mobile carrier.

M7 is still my all time favorite. HTC software smashes Samsung to pieces. It's aluminum designs so suave. Welcome back HTC!

True. But build quality has not been an issue for HTC, especially since the M7. The issue has been subpar cameras, and with the M9 some reports of overheating and not so great battery life. It sounds like those issues have been addressed with the M10. Time will tell.... :-)

Oh really? Tell that to the folks who had the purple tint issue on the M7. I had 3 of them and all of them had this defect. So IMO the build quality was ****e.

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

The camera was ****e. That doesn't mean the entire build quality was. I am replying on my M7 right now and it is still in great shape and the hardware inside other than the camera has aged well for a 3 year old device.

I have an M7 too with the purple camera.

Aside from that, the phone has aged well. It still looks great, performs wonderfully and is overall still a wonderful phone to use 3 years later.

Other than the camera Mrs. Lincoln how was the play? On all 3 of my M7s the cameras were unusable after a few months. Maybe you don't use your cameras often but it was a deal killer for me. This will be my first foray back to HTC since the M7 and hopefully they've stepped up in the build quality department.

The reason why I switched away from the M7 was actually due to the camera. Even when it's working, it's not that good compared to the competition in the conditions I take my shots in. The rest of the phone is excellent, however. The speakers still sound pretty good, performance was still snappy and overall build quality is actually better than my G4, if you believe it or not.

I went with the LG G4, which has an excellent camera. It's being sold as it's becoming a pit of issues that's starting to pile up. Next up is the Note 6, though HTC has really got my attention with this.

I agree. They pooped the bed on the camera. That's the past now. This 10 appears to finally have a decent shooter.

Except they didn't go for small profit, they went all in with Apple style profit. Unfortunately for HTC only 2 companies are able to command that kind of profit margin, Apple and Samsung. Already we have some bizarro decisions by HTC that will guarantee this phone will not be a best seller.
No 64GB available in the USA maybe that's not such a deal breaker with the sd card option. But the decision to not sell this on the #2 carrier in the USA will clobber them. That is huge pool of customers that will not even have the option to buy this phone. I know you can buy directly from HTC but come on, customers in the U.S. are basically morons and have no clue that unlocked phones are available online. A majority of people still buy phones from carriers.

I think it looks Great. The whole package. Gorgeous design.
I love my S7 but I can see many going HTC.
If HTC wouldn't have taken 14 months (forever, in the cell business) they would have likely got my money instead of samsung.
HTC needs to learn that 14 months is too long.
They better advertise the crapola out of it since they didn't release it on AT&T.
That's Millions of potential customers that won't even see this awesome 10 as an option. I really want to know the Real story about WHY?
Did AT&T say no? or did HTC say no, you can't add your direct TV ad into settings...

Not sure why either but this will definitely hurt sales of this phone.

That's easy for you because you are here and you read and know about phones. Your average phone customer does not, when they need a new phone they walk into the carrier store or the Apple store. Where they are offered the phones that the carrier is selling, most people haven't got a clue who HTC is or Huawei or even ever heard of Nexus.

To me, HTC needs to market the 10 in an effective manner to get the word out so people even know that HTC exists.

As for AT&T, it's definitely a blow to them by not being able to sell their phone on the 2nd largest carrier in the States. I'm sure AT&T has their reasons, but it's still a blow.

As for the non-techies who buy phones, there are some who have friends and/or family members who are technies and could help them with some device recommendations besides Apple or Samsung. Those are the people who are more likely to go with lesser-known devices like the Nexus and HTC 10.
