Hey guys, its my first post and I figured I owed back to the community. I spent the last month pouring over the threads and picked up so much information that I bought the phone.
I traded in HTC Hero at Radio Shack. They gave me $50 for it because it was kept in great shape and I had original box, manuals, charger, etc.
Screen:
When I got the Evo 3D finally in my hands I simply couldn't believe the screen. If you are going from a Hero to Evo 3D you will be blown away. I can't really describe it but it looks almost fake. Unbelievable. I also don't notice any problems with viewing angles, at least not what some reported. I bought an InvisiShield screen protector and its perfect, flawless. The Radio Shack guy put it on and did a perfect job. As you can tell I am very pleased.
Hardware/Processor:
The thing screams. The first few swipes and clicks I actually said out loud, "This thing is like butter." Everything you do is so smooth, no hiccups. Only weird thing that happened was when watching Green Hornet I must have hit something because the movie stopped and a text-to-speech box popped up (something like that). I hit cancel and it took a few seconds to get back to the movie. I hit play and was on my way again. But the movie played perfectly and skipping around the scenes was flawless and smooth.
Camera:
It's pretty good. I took a picture in my dimly lit living room in 3D and it turned out with a green tint. The flash went off, not sure what was up with that. But photos and videos are very good, miles ahead of the HTC Hero. The 3D is a little gimmicky, but I think it will be a fun thing as more content comes out. It's here to stay I think. I couldn't figure out the 3D until I put the screen about a foot away from my face and it came into focus. Wow! You just have to get the distance right, at least for me.
Sense:
Its way cool. Much better especially with the new Gingerbread. Although, I never understood why the weather app doesn't have tomorrow's or the week's weather. Its only at that time. I also love the built-in apps killer.
Phone calling/quality:
So far the signal I have is slightly better than the Hero. Just a tad, maybe a bar at the most. People can hear me fine and I can hear them. It works fine. One thing I REALLY like is if I call someone and voicemail comes on. The system says "... or press 1 to leave a message." At this point I used to have to wake the screen, hit the keypad button, then hit #1 on my old Hero. Now all I do is move the phone away from my face and it wakes the phone up automatically with the keypad displayed! I think it uses the gyro thingee inside to tell if the user has the phone to the head or not. Really cool, I found myself using it alot... even if you are talking and want to know the time, just move it away from your head and the screen pops on. Little things like that just make it overall awesome.
Internet:
Its so freaking smooth. Have had no problems, even with embedded youtube videos in posts. Way better than my old Hero. That thing would freak out and restart if I try to do too much. I was on 3G and haven't tried 4G yet cause its not available at my house yet.
The case and construction is also cool. Easy to take off the back plate. I like the slight grip on the back. I haven't bought a case because the damn thing is big enough already. Besides, I keep my phones in good condition anyways (or at least I try).
I did all kinds of things like play spiderman, watch portions of green hornet movie, took a few videos and pictures, setup all my accounts, used google maps while driving, browsed the internet, and made a few calls for a total of roughly 5-6 hours and I had about 25% left. I was on wifi a little bit too. This thing should last a full day with normal use, maybe longer. The instructions say to turn off wifi and stuff like that when not using it to save battery.
Overall this thing is 10 out of 10. In one day I can't really find anything I don't like, or at least worth mentioning.
I'll check this thread if anyone has questions, especially those of you coming from the old Hero.
