[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

is there anyway verizon can block your account from getting upgrades elsewhere other than verizon?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Ok. Any particular reason why? Just wondering. What should I tell them?
as long as it is working fine, then you don't have to. But if you did damage it when you cut it, one problem you may notice is that you are not holding onto a 4G LTE signal as well as you could be. Since the phone is new, you have no frame of reference to know what it would be like if you had a new SIM card in it. The SIM cards are necessary to authenticate to the 4G LTE network, and if they are damaged, they can cause problems with that.

So at some point I would want to get a fresh SIM card that had never been cut to make sure my phone was performing as best as it could. Just don't do it too soon because you don't want anyone nosing around in your account right now.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello All!

I know this question has been probably answered but I started going through the multiple pages in the thread and I am just getting myself more and more confused. If anyone could help me I would be so grateful. I have a family plan, my current line has been grandfathered in with the unlimited data plan. My phone is upgrade ready and want to upgrade my droid x to the new iphone. On my family plan, I have one line that is a non-data line and has an upgrade status. If anyone could provide me with step by step instructions on how to keep my unlimited data plan on my line. I would be so appreciative. thanks!

I'm going to try this with a Moto X. I'll let everyone know how it goes. Great thread, UDP FTW.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

Phone was shipped 3/03 (and promptly lost). After talking to UPS/Best Buy it was located, and I just now received it. Popped in my old SIM card and....

Congrats man.. I remember you saying that you weren't going to pursue getting your udp to hard. How did you end up getting it back, it sounded like you settled for the max plan.

I wasn't going to, but I figured what the heck. They pissed me off because they wouldn't budge or give me an account credit or anything at all. So I went and returned the phone to Best Buy and waited for them to put the UDP back on my account. Then I reordered the phone.

Thanks! I was pretty pissed when my UPS tracking said exception after the first hand off. They wouldn't tell me what was really going on, so I had to contact Best Buy who then had to call UPS to see what was up.

I've got my Note 3 again, so all is well! :)

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I have been watching this thread for a week and still not decided: buy a Note 3 and secure UDP or wait for S5 and hope this loophole isn't closed yet (coming from S3 and use 8-10 gb/month). S5 doesn't offer me much besides more portable but at cost of screen size, I wish they kept the note at 5.3- 5.5" range but slimmed down like note 3 =perfect!. Decided to pull trigger on note 3 on Monday and it just went from $199 --> $249! Lol. Will BB refund difference within 15 days under their price guarantee if it drops this Sunday or next? I emailed them with no response if this applies to phones bought online... Predictions? Advice?

Yes they will refund the difference if it drops. I bought my phone for $299.99 on bestbuy.com and less than 12 hours later it was $199.99. They refunded me the difference plus sales tax the day it was shipped.

Also, I highly doubt it will be dropping again in the near future. Verizon has the phone back up at $299.99 from the $199.99 they had it at. It seems like Best Buy closely mirrors whatever Verizon is doing. It's at $249.99 on Best Buy right now, but they still have it listed as sale price. It could go up to $299.99 again this weekend.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Thanks! I agree it could go $299 or $199 on Sunday, so if its guaranteed for 15 days today or 2morrow is best time to buy. This is what made me question, they make it sound like it only can only be refunded before its delivered? :

How does your price match policy cover an item scheduled for delivery from BestBuy.com?
If the price of an item drops at Best Buy at any time before its scheduled delivery date, we will refund 100% of the difference, including tax. To receive the lower price, you must call 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289). Price matching cannot be processed in our stores or via e-mail. If you see a lower price at BestBuy.com or a Best Buy store near you, all conditions apply from our standard Low Price Guarantee.

I don't know. I'm not sure if mobile has a different policy or not. Luckily I caught it before the device was shipped, but even still I would pursue it after the fact as long as it was within the 15 day period. I've called Best Buy Mobile so many times in the past few weeks it's ridiculous. They are always super nice and very helpful. I can't imagine it would be a big deal, but who knows.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

Well I have a single line and I've been wanting to do this but I'm worried I'd lose my UDP that and I bought the note 3 full price 1st day it came out so I already own one of the top phones. So ill just wait till a new phone comes out or the note 3 drops back down to 199.

I just want to know that if I order a phone and I somehow loose my udp all I'd have to do is return it and they'll restore my udp? Or is it a struggle even if you return everything?

It might be a struggle, but so long as you do it within 14 days, they should restore it.
