[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Well they just want to be careful, I assume. It's like them saying, wait 24 hours for your phone to completely activate or the number to port, etc. Some are also probably still stuck in the past where you had to call up Verizon to switch devices versus swapping SIMs.

Have you tried to go into Best Buy to see if they would be willing to just swap out the phone? That would be probably be the best option. You could try to get the upgrade back but I wouldn't trust them to do that =\

I don't live close to a Best Buy. I'm just going to cross my fingers and swap the sim card. It's scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I'll update once it gets here.

can you keep us informed if your phone will keep the unlimited.
I also ordered but a galaxy S5 it will only come later this week or next
It would be nice to see if this works.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Here is my day one summary of my M8 switcheroo....

On Sunday 4/6, I ordered 2 M8s on BB's website for both of my UDP lines and received both today.
When I received them, took the SIM (Line1) out of my Rezound, trimmed it and put it in the upgrade phone I purchased for Line2. It had data immediately upon boot.
So far the VZW portal reflects the M8 on Line1 and unlimited data.
I am holding off on powering up the M8 ordered for Line1 to make sure UDP doesn't change over the next few days.

Worst case scenario, I loose UDP on one line, not both...

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi, I am new to this forum but haven't seen a situation exactly like mine in this thread. I currently have a NATIONWIDE TALK SHARE 700 plan with 3 lines:

Line A: Galaxy Nexus smartphone with UDP (upgrade available)
Line B: Dumbphone (upgrade available)
Line C: Dumbphone (no upgrade)

Is it possible to take advantage of the BOGO deal for the GS5 and use one of them for Line A without losing UDP and selling the second GS5?

Based on reading through this forum it appears that I can achieve this by doing the following but please correct me if I am wrong:

Step 1: Transfer upgrade from Line A to Line C
Step 2: Order both GS5's for Line B and Line C
Step 3: Activate GS5's on Line B and C
Step 4: Reactivate dumbphones on Line B and C
Step 5: Make sure dataplans on Line B and C are switched back (i.e., removed)
Step 6: Activate one of the GS5's on Line A
Step 7: Sell second GS5

I assume that I would not have to modify my existing SIM for Line A to fit the GS5 since it already comes with a new activated SIM card. Is this correct?

urgradenoob, please update us as to whether or not this works after you do it. I am in the exact same situation and would like to do the exact same thing. It sounds like it should work exactly as you have it outlined.

Thanks in advance!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I believe this is correct.....you will need two lines with upgrades available to get the BOGO deal.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Has this disclaimer always been there? "DO YOU HAVE AN EXISTING UNLIMITED DATA PLAN?

Here's what you need to know:

With Verizon's new Share Everything plan, unlimited data is no longer available. When you upgrade your device, you will not have unlimited data.

If keeping unlimited data is important to you, you can choose "Replace my device" and pay full retail price for a new device."

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So it's still working? I've been hoping I could still do this when the S5 comes out tomorrow! :)

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Hi Everyone,

I was taking a look at this thread the other day and decided to take the plunge! My wife and I both have an upgrade available on our Verizon family share plan (we both have UDP's). I have a Galaxy Nexus and she has an S3. We preordered S5's for the both of us through bestbuy.com in the hopes that this method would work.

Just a quick question for those who have already done it and have insurance through Verizon/Asurion. How do you update your policy to cover your new phone once you do the upgrade? Do you simply call up Verizon and ask them to change it....do you have to wait a certain amount of time so that they don't see something fishy and force you to lose UDP?

Thanks!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Here's what I'm going to do. After reading this thread, it appears I'll have no issues. Let me know your thoughts.

Line 1 (primary line) - GN2 - UDP (upgrade available)
Line 2 - LG G2 - UDP
Line 3 - iPhone 4S - UDP
Line 4 - GS3 - 2 gig data plan

I want to transfer my upgrade to line 4. Get an M8 an transfer the phone to line 1. Open a new line with an M8 (BOGO), replace it with a dumb phone & put the M8 on line 3. The data charge will drop, leaving me with a $10/month line charge??

Will do. I missed the delivery yesterday by 25 minutes after absolutely having to leave for work. I'll be home today for it, though.

Sounds good. Hopefully they won't feel the need to call Verizon once your phone swap is good...

I don't know if it's alway been there but it was there when I did it about a week ago. All the posts say to ignore it so I did and all is good so far.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So will the s4 sim swap straight into the s5? The sim swapping part of this is the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on this move...

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

I'm just regretting jumping on the Free LG G2 deal because ppl are apparently able to order the M8 and GS5 and when I tried it would force me to choose a data plan just like the Motorola Ultra does.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

According to others it should. I was more worried about how the verizon site was going to handle the upgrade but all is good and the contract shows extended thru 2016 and unlimited is still intact. I will have to cut my sim down to a nano and if for some reason the phone doesn't activate properly then I will attempt to go online and fix it from verizons site. If that doesn't work then I will get a different nano sim card. I'm staying away from the one it comes with!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Hey y'all, just got my M8. Went easier than expected! Still have UDP! After removing the nano SIM included inside the M8, I trimmed the regular-sized SIM card of my Bionic to nano size with a Noosy cutter I got for $11, sanded it down a bit with a nail file included with the Noosy, and popped it into the new phone. Booted up normally and told me that the SIM was already activated and showed my phone number. It continued on to the normal activation business of putting in my Google account info. 4G came up fine!

Verizon Wireless account still shows:

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Thank you for this! I ordered my phone yesterday and it's already being delivered today. I started reading the process some more and started thinking if the new phones id number was somehow tied into the line it was ordered/upgraded thru. So yes, your info was very refreshing! I don't have a trimmer as you do but how did your sim card look after? Was all the gold still showing or did you have to cut into it? I currently have a micro sim. Also I got the same phone as you.

Does the One M8 have NFC? I would think it does, if so you will need to order a new SIM for it to work sense I DON'T think the Bionic has a NFC SIM.

I was under the impression that the battery contains the NFC. Was this changed sometime and I didn't pick up on it?

EDIT: It appears we are both correct. NFC comes within the phone which allows you to share pics, etc. NFC in the sim(for Verizon anyways) gives access to the ISIS. ISIS is Verizons BS mobile wallet.

And yes, doing a quick google search the M8 has NFC.

Yes you are right about the NFC being on the battery, but with Verizon I think you also need a NFC SIM for it to work. Don't think it is just to use with ISIS. But you can try it with the old SIM and see what happens.
