[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You must have been top of your class at the university of google searches.
I am not sure what your point is. Verizon allows upgrade transfers, always has. They have not made an announcement to the contrary and their most recent announcement only affects transfer from a non-phone line. Why would they announce that and not announce the new 30 day requirement?

Read through this multi-page thread. Numerous people have done this and kept unlimited data and have posted proof that they did.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

They are third party. We have two verizon call centers in my city. They are a company called Alorica here. Not really sure why you're trying to argue with me on this when this is so easy to prove. I have posted in other forums than this one, been reading for a while, but never felt the need to start posting. And pardon me for being officially trained on things. I apologize. You must have been top of your class at the university of google searches.

Then please take a screen shot of this policy memo. :-)

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I am positive I'm not the only one who Verizon will lose if when I next go to upgrade my device that has unlimited data, it's impossible to do so. That's their only hook.

I'm not going to post an internal document online with my work email on it. Sorry. You can choose to believe me or not. I don't really care at this point, but when you try to do an upgrade and then an ESN change and your unlimited gets dropped, don't act surprised.

Okay so you're going to unofficially represent Verizon in public forums with misinformation, have no intention of backing it up and then act belligerent to some of the most informed consumers that these forums have (concerning Verizon billing relative to upgrades) when they ask for clarification or substantiation of your wildly ridiculous claims?

The intent of this thread is to help consumers continue to conduct business with Verizon Wireless, and you, as a representative of the one seeking their business and thus the assistance of this thread, are stating that we should not try, that our interests are best served by seeking the business of your competitors? Does your boss know or Verizon's corporate office know how well you represent their brand and motivate consumers to seek other products?

I don't work for Verizon, but I used to consult for them and while I do have their service at a substantial discount, I can honestly say that if unlimited is not possible to retain, neither is the customer base that is holding on because of it. As stated by several other members today, it sure as heck isn't support from customer service folks in the stores who consistently lie to and demean their customers.

I agree it is unreasonable to expect confidential communications to be leaked, but there is a civil way of conducting business, especially when you're speaking directly to your customers and doing so in an official, albeit unauthorized, capacity. That last part alone should be incentive enough to ensure a positive customer experience, given there is no direct upside to this course of action, yet there are a myriad of potential drawbacks.

People post internal memos on this and other similar sites all the time and just black out their identifying information. Right before the Verizon official announcement someone posted just such a memo on another forum. And on this forum, people post internal memos about phone release dates. All you have to do is black out your identifying information.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The point of mentioning having consulted with Verizon Wireless and Verizon Land is that I know their management is incredibly obsessed with a positive customer experience and branding, even if it costs them money to keep a customer happy. They won't break laws for you, but they'll bend just about any of their policies to retain a customer. I watched them fire a highly profitable collection agency that was making them millions and one of the highest rated third party customer service call centers in the nation, because in both cases, the associates of these companies were being rude to their customers over the phone. They are a huge company and there are going to be complaints, and many of them are valid and many are stupid people with an irrational sense of entitlement, but they'll fight tooth and nail to try to keep their name as clean as possible and burn bridges with people and companies that undermine that mission in a heartbeat.

Obviously just clip out or blot out your work email address, name, and other personally identifiable information. I have seen it done a lot. Thanks

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Update....

I went to the Verizon retail store yesterday and put a dummy basic phone on my non-unlimited line (freeing up my new SGS3), activated a new sim for the unlimited line and ESN changed the SGS3 over to my unlimited line. The lady doing it said it would have zero impact on my unlimited data.

Before leaving the store, I fired up the Verizon Mobile app and verified it still said unlimited. Checked last night and today and unlimited is still in tact. So far so good. Will keep checking and post an update if something happens.

I plan on repeating the process for my line that still has an upgrade, but I am going to wait for the SGS4 or Note 3. Until then, I will enjoy my new Note 2!

Thanks to all that have helped in this thread! My wife and I are very appreciative!

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

To ensure that sales people follow this, we do not get paid on sales that have alternate upgrades processed the 'wrong way'. It is not guaranteed that it will automatically drop off because obviously corporate verizon cannot monitor everyone's account all the time, but if you call tech support or customer service and they notice you did this they can switch it to 2GB. I have see. This happen many times which is why I'm telling you this. Waiting the 30 days is just a safety period so that we've been instructed to give customers so we have been guaranteed that it won't be dropped off if you wait that period.

Sorry if that's confusing. Again, you can not believe me if you want but I'm just relaying what we've been told and what I've seen. I'm not a fan of these policies at all either.

So, if this is in fact their new policy, we can get around it by doing everything online ourselves (transfer upgrade, ordering, ESN switch) and doing everything near the end of the billing cycle so that if unlimited is taken away at the switchover of billing months, we're still in the return window to reinstate unlimited data. Right?

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Went today and moved my wive's unlimited plan upgrade to her son's (limited) and got her a new iPhone (I know I know). Took it home and then switch her son's phone back to his account and the new phone to my wive's. It all worked perfectly and she keep her unlimited. In fact for some reason the unlimited plan on her line went down by $5? I will take it!

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I doubt that. I have received everything from unlimited data after verizon stopped offering it to new customers to a free network extender from the reps on the phone. No way in heck do I believe that the reps who gave me those things were not verizon employees.

One guy on this thread got unlimited data back after losing it by doing an upgrade on an individual line that had unlimited data simply by asking a phone rep to put it back. Verizon would not give that authority to a 3rd party vendor employee.

Me! Me! Me! Thanks again. Still closely monitoring my Verizon account. Unlimited still in. Hoping it wouldn't drop off for some reason. :)

And still enjoying my Note 2!

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi all,

can't read through 400+ pages of posts and OP doesn't have instructions for those with 1 individual line with unlimited. Can someone provide me instructions/link on how to keep unlimited plan for 1 line service? My questions are

1) If I add a line to add a smart phone with 2gb, will it force me to lose my unlimited data as I have to convert individual plan to share everything plan?
2) if question 1 's answer is no, then do i pretty much activate a dumb phone to line #2 that I added with smart phone, deactivating smart phone and swap SIM card from line #1 to newly acquired smart phone from line #2? Is this how it goes?

1.you would convert to a family share plan if you wanted to keep unlimited unthrottled 4GLTE. Do not move to a share everything plan, you will lose unlimited unthrottled 4GLTE.

2. Yes

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi, I've tried to read through the last 5-10 pages or so but haven't find a clear answer. I tried to call Verizon to preorder the S4. There are three lines on the account: Lines A and B have unlimited data, Line C doesn't. Line B has an upgrade available. I asked that Line C use the upgrade to buy the S4. I asked to confirm that Lines A and B would retain their unlimited data but the rep told me that if I use Line B's upgrade I would be "upgraded" to 2gb per month (instead of unlimited). Is there any way to get around this? Line C doesn't have an upgrade until April 2014.

If you are truly concerned with keeping your unlimited data, I would NOT have a rep (in store OR over the phone) handle the ordering/upgrade process. Use the website to transfer the upgrade and order the phone to make 100% sure it is done correctly.

That might make it impossible to preorder the S4 right now ( I have no idea). You are really risking your unlimited by letting any VZW employee handle the process.

The rep is correct because what he/she is talking about is a true alternate upgrade in which the S4 would be preordered on Line B and then the phone is activated on Line C once it is shipped. That would cause you to lose your unlimited data on Line B.

However, that is NOT what we are talking about. What we are talking about is to transfer Line B's upgrade to Line C. You should be able to do that online. Then preorder the S4 on Line C. When the S4 is shipped, activate it on Line C. Then get a new SIM card for the S4 for Line B and switch the S4 to Line B.

As dpham00 said, you would not convert to share everything; you would convert to a nationwide family share plan.

However, are you sure this would save you money over just buying the phone outright? What individual plan are you on now and how many minutes/texts do you need a month?
