[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I do have an extra phone laying around that is a 4g. What do I tell them to have them ship me the sim. Because the rep asked me if I have the phone and said if I do than walk into their store and have them install the sim and activate it.

Tell them you work 2 jobs and work when the store is open and off work when they are closed.

I've done this plenty over the phone. They suggest I walk into the store but I tell them it's easiest for me to have it mailed to me. I've also done it where I told them I didn't have the phone yet as I ordered it from a 3rd party. Every time it's been no issue so I would definitely call again and have it mailed to you. I personally wouldn't go into a store for it.

Thanks for that info...You remember what number you called? I'm doing it by dialing 611 from my cell and I just hit 0s for rep.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

He asked if I have the phone in hand and I said no its in the mail. Asked for the MEID. Dammit he said he needs the meid and can't do it without it.

I did the same thing. 611 from my phone and 0. I don't know why all the reps you are getting are saying it can't be done. All I ever told them was the type of sim I needed for the device I was going to use be it an iPhone 5s or note 3 or droid charge. They never insisted that they couldn't do it without knowing any info from the device I was going to use.

GOOD NEWS: I tried again and this time it worked. I guess 3rd time is the charm. Thank you for your help. When should I order the phone? Can I do it now? Or should I wait a little bit and allow the sim to be shipped.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

How do I check which line is the primary? I already asked one of the rep when I called Verizon. I don't trust anything they tell me now. If indeed they are correct than I would be upgrading a secondary line. Are people having success with secondary lines or should I transfer the upgrade to the primary and than place my order?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Anyone have advice for me? I have three lines:
1. Droid Razr on UDP
2. Droid Razr on UDP
3. Dumb phone
I ordered a Droid Maxx on line number 2 and the phone shipped with no problems so I decided to do it with another Droid Maxx on line number 1, however, I got an email that there was a problem with my order. I called to see what the problem was and they verified it was because I would need to switch to the 6GB package. I went ahead and cancelled the order for line 1 and am considering not opening the phone for line 2 and just take it back to the local Best Buy. Anyone have thoughts? I would love to have the Droid Maxx on both lines but also don't want to lose my UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have been doing a bunch of reading and after being confused, I think I finally understand how to do this.
Looking for a little verification and additional instruction if needed to see if I have this right as I want to switch my Droid out for
an S5.

Friends & Family 10FC 1000 Plus plan

line 1 Droid Bionic (4G LTE) UDP (upgrade eligible)
line 2 dumb phone (eligible in November)
line 3 dumb phone (not eligible)

Transfer upgrade to line 2, order S5, when it comes choose 2 gb plan and activate the S5 on line 2
Then re-activate dumb phone on line 2 (2gb should drop off), leaving S5 free to activate on line 1
Then activate S5 on line 1

My questions are
1. do I need to worry about a sim card with this transaction? Not clear on the use of the sim card and what it is for
or some of the other numbers I hear people refer to that they use to identify a phone or a line
2. can this be done in the store or am I still better off doing it on line and having the phone shipped to me directly
3. will all my Droid data and contacts transfer over?

I'm just feeling nervous because I am not super techy and don't want to mess it up and lose my UDP.
Thank you in advance for your help and guidance. :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello, does anyone know if I will be able to do this?
I have the following:
Line 1. Droid Razr with unlimited data that is eligible for an upgrade.
Line 2. Droid Razr with unlimited data that is eligible for an upgrade.
Line 3. Basic phone that is eligible for an upgrade.

I want to get a Droid Maxx. Can I upgrade the basic phone to a Droid Maxx and then activate it on Line 1 and re-activate the basic phone on line 3? Will this change my monthly bill any?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

UDP phone and dumb phone with upgrade
Line1 UDP
Line2 dumb phone (Upgrade available)

  1. Order smartphone using upgrade on Line2, select data plan
  2. Activate smartphone on Line1
  3. Pending data plan on Line2 will drop off in a week

This is my scenario and I'm eligible for upgrade to both UDP and dumb lines, but I'm confused by the step "Activate smartphone on Line1" as I've never activated a phone on a different line than it was ordered for. A lot of people mention never using the SIM if buying from Best Buy, but if I buy a new phone directly from Verizon, could I activate online even if I used the SIM it shipped with? Or would I have to put my S3's SIM into the new phone (which would involve SIM-cutting if I were to get a phone with a nano-SIM slot)?

Also, what happens to the UDP line's upgrade if I used the dumb line's upgrade, does it stay available on the UDP line?

So, you want to upgrade line 3 which is non-udp line and than you're going to swap that with line one. This should be no problem and no it shouldn't change your monthly bill. I'm no expert but that is pretty simple method of upgrade you're doing. But note you will need a sim to activate it on line 3 before swapping it to line 1. Just call in and ask them to ship it to or just it do it in store since you're upgrading using a non-udp line and don't have to worry about like udp.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So heres what I got:

Line 1: dumb phone, upgrade available
Line 2: smartphone (galaxy S3) - unlimited data plan, upgrade available
Line 3: dumb phone, upgrade available

Now I want to upgrade line 2 to galaxy S5 and keep my UDP, and in about a month or so I will need to upgrade line 1 to a tiered data plan, and we are hoping to get rid of line 3 all together, but will want to upgrade both line 1 and 2 again in the future as well.

From my understanding this should all be possible (im kind of on information overload at this point) should I be starting by upgrading line 1 to the S5 then once receiving the phone take the sim card from line 2's galaxy S3 and put it into the S5 and then that line should be good, correct? and then I can proceed to upgrading line 1 using line 2's upgrade (because its being transferred, the UDP on line 2 should be safe, right?) to upgrade to any smartphone. at this point both line 1 and line 2 would be upgraded and Id still have the UDP on line 2, so Id be safe to drop line 3 from the plan altogether. and then in another 2 years, I should be able to upgrade once again by trading the upgrades, OR will I need to keep line 3 in order to upgrade line 2 in the future?

is this the correct, easiest way to accomplish all that I want, or is there easier method, or have I forgot some major step?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Quick update: Got my S5 today and put my old sim in and all is well! Still have UDP!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You do NOT have to activate it on the dumb line first. Just put your Sim card from line one into new phone and turn it on

Lg g3 preorders

If one has unlimited data can you preorder than when it comes go through the steps to maintain ones UDP or would it be best to wait until it's released?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

oops, thanks! i think my problem is because i'm not due for an upgrade and that's why it wouldn't work. When i tried to use the build your own MotoX site, it stopped me at the end for that reason.

I'd like to know the answer to this is well. Itching to get my fingers on the G3. I can't imagine preordering would negatively impact this process at all...
