[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just ordered a new phone and want to make sure I am doing this right. I am line 1 and need a new phone. Line 3 doesn't care about phones or UDP really so I am risking losing something that they aren't even using.

Line 1 Smartphone, UDP, upgrade avail, G Nex
Line 2 Smartphone, 2 gb, no upgrade, G Nex
Line 3 Smartphone, UDP, upgrade avail, Old *** droid something
Line 4 Smartphone, 2 gb, no upgrade, S4
Line 5 Smartphone, 2 gb, no upgrade, S4

I transferred upgrade from Line 3 to Line 4 and ordered S5. When the phone comes in stick in new sim it came with and activate it like normal for Line 4. Once activated then log onto verizon site and de activate it and re activate the S4 on Line 4. Once this is done then log back to verizon site and activate S5 on Line 1?

Or as an alternative I can simply take out sim of G Nex from Line 1 and stick it in new phone before powering it up for the first time and I am done? Power it up and it will just work. Won't this show the wrong phone in the VZW system on Line 1 then? And if I need to do a warranty/Insurance claim on it for whatever reason I will have a problem?

Thanks for the help. Just want to make sure I am doing it right the first time so I don't have to burn $35 returning the phone and starting over. And my G Nex is so fricking old I can't wait to get into a new phone. So lucky I found this trick to keep UDP or I would be rocking the G Nex for the next decade.

I'm in the same situation....5 lines on my account that are all available for upgrades but only two are UDP with the other two on a 2gb and the last line being a basic phone.

My situation...
Line 1 GS3 with UDP
Line 2 GS3 with UDP
Line 3 iPhone with 2gb
Line 4 iPhone with 2gb
Line 5 basic phone

Both my wife and I are using the GS3's and we'd like to upgrade to the LG G3 (I'm on borrowed time as my original GS3 screen broke and I'm using a friends old GS3 for the last two months). Should I preorder two LG G3's using line 3 and 4 (agreeing to another 2yr - 2gb plan) and when the new phones arrive activate them on line 3 and 4 using the sim cards that come with them then reactivate the iPhones back on to line 3 and 4 which would deactivate the LG phones which enable me to activate them on line 1 and 2 OR should I just toss the GS3's sim cards into the new phones when they arrive and activate them on lines 1 and 2?

And how does the warranty work...does it follow the line which it was purchased for or does it follow the account which it was purchased under?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

are you sure you ordered the Verizon versions? I only ask because I cant find the Verizon ones on BB.com, only AT&T versions.

Bestbuy is now letting verizon customers pre-order the LG G3 this morning. Unfortunately for me it is only the black version of the phone. I am waiting on the white version which says coming soon :(

Hey check again I see the white one available.

I was waiting to pre-order the G3 also (to use with my old SIM) but it's only available for store pickup right now. :X

Am I the only one who sees the LG G3 being store pickup on?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Only problem now is that bestbuy website will only do in store pickup for the LG G3 pre-order. If it is a upgrade at a discounted price you will have to activate in the store and probably loose UDP

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've read so many different things here that now I'm confused. Here's my simple scenario.
I have 2 smartphones with udp and 2 dumbphones
In the past, I've upgraded the dumphone line, activated the new phone on that line, then reactivated the dumb phone leaving the new upgrade phone free to add to the UDP lines and that has worked.

I've read that if I ordered an upgrade from the dumbphone, that when I get it I can just use the sim from one of my UDP lines and just activate it there, leaving the dumphone line unchanged and still keeping my unlimited data. Is this true? Seems much easier than the older way of activating and reactivating.

I just ordered an S5 using an upgrade from the dumbphone line, so just wondering what I should do when I get it. Thanks.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I am also looking into upgrading to the LG G3 from my old Galaxy Nexus. From the research i did they both use the same size sim card so i dont imagine the switching being a problem.

I assume once the G3 goes on sale, or maybe a few days afterwards, you will be able to get it shipped to your home. As soon as i see the shipping options changed i'm gonna give it a shot.

If you didn't transfer the upgrade from the UDP to the dumbphone to get the S5, then you can use the SIM from your UDP phone without activating the dumbphone

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Need simple explanation how to keep udp. I read the thread and little bit confused and want to clarify before doing anything. Here is my scenario:

Line1: galaxy s3 udp, elgible for an upgrade
Line 2: galaxy s3 udpb elgible for an upgrade
Line 3: galaxy fascinate (3g) elgible upgrade
Line 4: basic 2g phone, elgible for an upgrade
Line 5: basic 2g, not elgible for an upgrade

What is best way and easy way to upgrade without loosing udp? Trying to get Lg G3 for line 1.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Andy

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I am so thankful for finding this thread!
I plan to go into verizon tomorrow.
Went in tonight to upgrade and lose my UDP but the employee actually talked me out of it. Even said there are ways to keep it!
So here's my info:

Verizon Family share plan with 700 min

Line 1(mine)- broken/water damaged iPhone 4S with UDP upgrade eligible and out of contract

Line 2(husbands)- iphone 4s with 2gb data

I would LIKE to transfer upgrade to husbands line, upgrade then use the new phone on my line since I am without a working phone(no idea about sim damage)

Do I have to add a third dumb phone line and upgrade that? Or can I just do it from my husbands/2nd line? I'd prefer not to pay the 10 monthly for a third line but the verizon rep said that's how to do it.

This is all SO confusing and I'm totally lost. I was surprised at how helpful and honest the verizon employee was tho! I plan to go to him again tomorrow since he already knows my plan.

Thank you all so much for the quick reply!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So I made my attempt at keeping UDP through BBmobile last night and got the issue with order notice. I had ordered a HTC One and was having it shipped to my home like the forums said. Talked to one of BB's reps this morning, she asked how much data I had and I told her unlimited. I then told her my situation with trying to upgrade and she was in the same boat. She said that the BB mobile method of upgrading at discount no longer works... Is it just hit or miss? I ended up cancelling the order. Anyone else still having success? Any tips? I don't plan on losing my UDP.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I was able to order via the BB website yesterday and it allowed me to choose delivery to my home for my pre-order LG G3 with Verizon. I'm hoping they don't change it to in-store pickup, but everything indicated that it would ship directly to me as I had to put my shipping address into the order. I placed it at about 6:00am CDT yesterday, so I don't know if they changed it by the time you tried. Hopefully it'll let you ship it to your house when you try it again though. I'm hoping I can keep my UDP this way too! Best of luck!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Okay, here's my situation. I have pre-ordered an LG G3 and will be upgrading from a Droid Bionic. The Sim cards are different sizes as the Bionic is 3 years old. I transferred the upgrade from my Bionic UDP line to a dumb phone line and ordered online. I tried calling Verizon to get another Sim card but was told I couldn't get one until the new phone arrived. My plan is to activate on the dumb phone line and then use a new Sim on my UDP line. Is this my best course? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Yeah, I checked now and BB still does not offer shipping options for G3 through Verizon. I really wanted to save that extra $100 and get this phone cheaper, oh well!!

Cut the sim with a sim cutter from amazon to fit.
