[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

would this work if I went from an iphone 4S to a galaxy 5???

not sure if they use the same sim card or if this wouldn't work for that.

Thanks so much

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

What exactly is an alternate upgrade?

An alternate upgrade is when you use a line that has an upgrade available but put the phone onto another line that is not eligible to upgrade.

Yes, it would work going from an iPhone 4S to a GS5 as they both use a micro SIM card.

They will have to activate it in store. I don't know if they would use your old Sim. Wait for it to come out, then order on the web, that should work fine.

SOP requires that we activate the SIM card that is included with the phone. The program that we use to activate the phone (BEAST) will activate the phone in order to complete the pick-up process - there is absolutely no walk-around to picking up a 2-year contract phone (whether it is an upgrade or new) without activating it. If a pick-up phone is released without activation, you can get fired for that.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I see the White one on Bestbuy.com. Can I do this trick for a Pre-Order? Anybody know if anyone can still do it?

There only work around that I would think would possible work would be the one that I previously posted - doing an alternate upgrade (sometimes called cross upgrade) from the line that has the UDP to a line that does NOT have UDP. If you're a little lost look back a couple pages to look at my post.

I read one instance where one person was able to do just that

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Can I....
Line 1 UDP
Line 2 Dummy

My UDP (line 1) is ready for upgrade. Can I transfer this to line 2 (dummy). Pre-order the G3 for in store pick-up. Go into store (BB when it comes in) active the new G3 on the dummy line. After activation move sim card from UDP (line 1) to new G3 and transfer dummy phone line back to basic phone while keeping line 1 as UDP? I did this method about 2 months ago exact same situation and it worked out great (I have more lines on the account). I am questioning it now though because I went through the steps on BB's website, and the wording seemed a little different. Anyone have any insight if they have changed anything in their process recently? Thanks in advanced!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You at correct. When you order it online through Verizon the online invoice will show the line it is coming from. Don't worry about that. Just activate it on the dumb line and put it in the line you want. Then drop the data on the dumb line.

Forgot to mention I have an old phone HTC Rezound. When I go through this process of transferring upgrade to dumb line can I just go to verizon store and get a new sim card to activate on my UDP later when I transfer? or do I need to use my old sim card with modification?

If you want the guarantee of keeping unlimited data, then wait until it can be shipped to home. Simple as that.

Sucks that they took the shipping option off right away grrrrr!!!! What phone are you replacing and are you having to cut down the SIM?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a few questions in regards to the activation process for an S5 (micro SIM) if someone would be so kind to answer them.

Line 1: UDP (mini SIM)
Line 2: 2gb tiered (micro SIM)

I transferred an upgrade from line 1 to line 2. When the phone arrives do I activate it on line 2 with the new SIM card that comes with the phone, or do I use line 2's current SIM to activate?

Also line 1 currently has a 4G LTE mini SIM, I plan on cutting it down to micro which should work correct?

Let us know how your upgrade process goes. Good luck

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

i believe so yes. That message has been there since shortly after they dropped unlimited data as an option

I don't remember seeing that the last few times I went to check on the availability of the shipping option. Makes it sound like it's automatic.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Here is how I did mine.

Account overview (only important lines noted)

Line 1: UDP (no upgrade available)
Line 2: UDP (upgrade available)
Line 3: Dumbphone (upgrade available)

I transferred Line 2's upgrade to Line 3 and bought a M8. Line 2's contract is now renewed to 2016 and the others have remained the same.

The new M8 is to be temporarily used on Line 1, not Line 2. When the phone arrived, I tried to activate it on Line 3, but after an hour of waiting the activation would not complete. So I just put my Line 1 SIM into the new phone and everything has been fine and dandy. All UDP are still there, Line 3 still has no data, and under Change Minutes, Texts, and Data the plan is still correct (Pay as you go for the dumbphone, UDP for the smartphones). Its only been 2 hours since I did this, but I think I'm good to go.

My question in regards to this process is what happens if your SIM card isn't compatible with the new phone? Just getting a new one from the store after activating it on the dumbline/other line and then using that new SIM card that you got on your line would work fine?
