[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I got a solution for you. Call Verizon and order a nano sim. If the rep says they can't do it say OK and call back. They will ship it you for free in 2 business days. Than go to amazon and order a Sim adapter. When the Sim arrives use the adapter you to convert it into a micro Sim and activate it on your line. Once done order m8 and just take your Sim out and remove the adapter and install it into m8.
Thanks I might try this method first.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Just wanted to also know. I see BB has HTC one for .01¢ online but wont ship to the house. Is it possible to have it shipped to store for pickup and insert my current sim card and have this method still be successful or once its shipped to the store they automatically activate it?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Has anyone had any luck with Amazon? If so can you explain your ordering process?. I see an option to keep existing plan, but don't know if this will work.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

How many of you would still consider on keeping your UDP
After October when Verizon will start throttling data after 5GB?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

1) Order LG G3 from BB using my Samsung GS3 upgrade.
2) Choose Keep my current plan and ship to my house (EDIT - I see that pick up in store is my only option. Is that risky?)
3) When I receive the LG I remove the SIM that shipped with it and place my current SIM in. (I beleive both phones use the micro-sim).
4) Activate the LG
5) Keep UDP.

Do I have that right?

I have no personal experience with buying in-store at BB, but from reading this thread an elsewhere, it seems like their policy is to activate the phone with the new SIM card in store, thereby enrolling you in a new plan.

I would like to keep mine. I do not typically go over 5GB but, I like to have the unlimited just in case.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Does anyone know the normal amount of time it takes BB to process and ship the phone? My order still says "When all items included in your wireless plan are available, they will ship together." I'm just a bit antsy thinking something might have gone wrong. I still have my UDP on my current phone though.

Of you are still under contract they won't throttle you. Everybody keeping unlimited doing this is starting under contract. So no problem.

I can confirm that this still works. We have four phones on UPD family plan (all unlimited). After many different tries we finally hit on it and got all four phones changed from galaxy S3s to shiny new Galaxy S5s. Just follow the directions and switch the sim cards.
We kept getting the email about a "problem with the order" fro Best Buy. We called them and canceled those. Initially we got only one to go through. Then we figured out only phone orders on the primary or first line will work. We transferred eligibility one at a time to the primary line and ordered all four phones. We waited for one to ship before ordering the next one. We never got the "problem with the order" email from Best Buy on the phone that was ordered on the primary line. BTW the primary line it turns out was not the same line as the primary account holder. It turns out it was the first phone on that data plan that was activated 5 years ago. If you don't know which one it is, just order a phone on all lines, if one goes through, cancel all the "problem with order" phones and keep transferring the eligibility to that line that worked and order another....and another, until all phones are upgraded. It doesn't matter what phone goes with the swapped old sim card from the old phone.
it feels good to Screw Verizon after what they did to UDP.
If the 4 lines of the UDP isn't on contract?
You will have 60 days left to enjoy truly unlimited data. After October 1st. Verizon will most likely start throttling you if? If your in congested Verizon market (which seems to be the whole country), and you use more than 4.7GB of data a month.
Your data won't be lte speed sorry to say there after. And the even more bad news? If say your throttled half way through your current bill? You will still be throttled till the end of your next month's bill too.

Cnotes,
Are you a power user? If so what will you most likely do? To prevent yourself from being throttled?

Only thing you can do to not be throttled is stay under contract. You can also try not using during peak hours when the network is not as busy but good luck with that one.

So you will renew contract evey 2 years? And keep unlimited?

tx_tuff,

This is per the Verizon website. Looks like only business and government accounts with "Major" contracts will be exempt?
I don't see anything about being under a normal 2 year personal account?

Am I affected by Network Optimization?

Only a small percent of customers will be affected.* To be affected, you must be a data customer on an unlimited data plan who is among the top 5% of data users.* Network Optimization of 4G LTE devices does not apply to government customers or business customers who have signed a major account agreement.

Also, further down.

I’m a small business customer, will this affect me?

Anyone on an unlimited data plan and in the top 5% of data users is subject to Network Optimization.* If you think this will impact your business, contact your sales representative or go into your local Verizon Wireless Communications Store to discuss other service plans to meet your needs.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So to recap, there are two methods to keep your unlimited.

1. BB method
- Go bestbuy online and purchase a phone with keeping existing plan option, and ship it to home.
- When the phone arrives, throw out the sim card of the new one, and insert the existing simcard from old phone into the new phone.
- In this method, activation fee of $35 is charged upon the purchase from BB.

2. Transfer method on family plan.
- When your UDP line is up for upgrade, log into your Non-UDP line and browse for a new phone.
- Get the upgrade transferred from the UDP Line when prompting to purchase through the Non-UDP line.
- When the phone arrives, Activate the phone from Non-UDP line ($35 activation charge), then put a old simcard into the new phone to activate the phone on UDP line.

My question is,
at the last stage of the method 2,
Can I do the following??
- When the phone arrives, instead of activate the new phone from Non-UDP, just insert the old simcard into the new phone to activate the phone on UDP line and avoid paying $35 activation fee.

Much appriciated,
Thx

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Starting in October 2014, Verizon Wireless will extend its network optimization policy to the data users who: fall within the top 5 percent of data users on our network, have fulfilled their minimum contractual commitment, and are on unlimited plans using a 4G LTE device. They may experience slower data speeds when using certain high bandwidth applications, such as streaming high-definition video or during real-time, online gaming, and only when connecting to a cell site when it is experiencing heavy demand. (Note: Does not currently apply to government or business accounts that have signed a major account agreement.)

Network Optimization – Data Demand

Also the FCC is on them:

I'm in the process of doing method 2 and they charged me a $30 activation fee when I ordered the phone (online from Verizon).
